In 1994 I was diagnosed with celiac disease, which led me to create Celiac.com in 1995. I created this site for a single purpose: To help as many people as possible with celiac disease get diagnosed and living happy, healthy gluten-free lives. Celiac.com was the first site on the Internet dedicated solely to celiac disease, and since then it has become an invaluable resource to people worldwide who seek information about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet.
In 1998 I created The Gluten-Free Mall, Your Special Diet Superstore! which was also another Internet first—it was the first gluten-free food site to offer a shopping cart-style interface, and the ability for people to order gluten-free products manufactured by many different companies at a single Web site.

About CDF:
Celiac Disease Foundation is dedicated to providing services and support to persons with CD/DH through programs of awareness, public and professional education, advocacy, and research. CDF has an international medical advisory board and has established a Celiac Disease Center in affiliation with the University of Southern California/Kenneth Norris Jr. cancer Center. CDF is a non-profit, public benefit foundation, incorporated in 1990 with a non-profit tax exemption under Internal Revenue section 501(C)(3).
CDF Goals: To assist people with CD/DH and their families to understand and cope with the disease; To distribute reliable up-to-date information about CD/DH and the gluten-free diet; To increase awareness of CD/DH among all health care professionals, food and drug manufacturers, the food service industry, the media and the public; To encourage Celiac Disease research.
In addition to patient support, CDF has co-sponsored a symposium for Registered Dietitians; hosted information booths at Digestive Disease Week, GI Nurses meetings and related organizations; organized and co-sponsored a 2-hour symposium on celiac disease during the 10th World Congresses of Gastroenterology (video tape available).
There are three meetings a year, one of which includes a presentation by a medical expert in CD/DH who often is a guest at Grand Rounds at one or more of the major hospitals during his/her stay. Other meetings may focus on nutrition and gluten-free cooking and shopping, with plenty of gluten-free food vendor booths and/or member prepared treats at every meeting.
In 1996, CDF is forming smaller support circles called "Celiac Connections" throughout its membership to better serve newly diagnosed celiacs and celiacs in hospitals and nursing homes, to exchange information through small group meetings, and to put together bulk orders of gluten-free products. Interested persons should contact the CDF office to sign up for a nearby Celiac Connections group or to volunteer to start a new group in your neck of the woods.
