    Apple Crisp #2 (Gluten-Free)

    Reviewed and edited by a celiac disease expert.

    This recipe comes to us from Phyllis Chinn.

    After a lot of trial and error I developed the following Apple Crisp recipe.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
    7 large granny smith apples
    1 cup gluten-free flour
    ½ cup brown sugar
    ¼ cup white sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/3 cup chopped pecans
    ½ teaspoon nutmeg (I use whole nutmeg and grind it)
    1 stick butter, melted

    Mix together dry ingredients and add melted butter; mix well.

    Peel and slice apples and put in a 9 x 9 buttered pan. Spread flour mixture evenly over apples and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Increase heat to 375 and bake until bubbly.

    I love this recipe! I changed it to 1/2 cup honey in the batter, 1/2 cup maple syrup poured over the apples, no pecans, and the results were unbelievable.

    This is so good! My husband loved it and I tried very hard not to eat more than my share. Very good for celiac and non alike. You would never know it was gluten free!

    Made this recipe in 9 x 13 augmented half again. Worked great, commented on my blog. Lots of compliments at the group I took it to.

    What did you substitute the honey and maple syrup for? I am guessing the brown sugar and regular sugar. Thanks for your help.

    1 stick butter
    1 cup gluten-free flour, any kind (I use a mixture of rice flour and corn starch)
    ½ teaspoon xanthan gum
    1 cup sugar

    Ingredients:
    6 tablespoons sugar (granulated)
    ¼ cup plus l tablespoon of cornstarch
    8 large egg yolks
    l quart of whole or 2% milk
    8 ounces semisweet chocolate chopped
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut up
    1 – 10 inch baked gluten-free pie shell
    1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream, chilled
