I am a 68 year old female. I was diagnosed just before Christmas of 2005 after a knee replacement. My mother also had knee replacement surgery in her mid sixties. My diabetes counselor is the one who gave me the heads up after I called with elevated blood glucose levels and my other symptoms. She said that is sounded like Celiac or Lactose intolerance. I stopped eating gluten and improved with in a week or so. I then went to the GI doc and asked that Celiac be ruled out. Although my blood tests came back neutral, I had been gluten free for close to a month and was feeling much better. The doctor did a biopsy, but before that, he told us that he didn't care how it came back. I stopped eating gluten and I got a lot better. He said I had Celiac. I told him that he was suppose the rule it out, not in! I am just glad I didn't have it back when my mom had it!
