I am a mother of three children, ages 10, 7 and 5. It was approximately three years ago that our world was turned upside down. Our second child, Leah went to the doctor for a routine kindergarten physical when we were informed that she was not growing any longer and they did not know why. Off to the hospital we went for testing. It was awful having to sit and hold her as she went through the sweat test for C.F. Then the testing for Crohn's and finally the blood test for celiac disease. Soon after we were sent to Ann Arbor to see our baby girl be put through a biopsy. Talk about heart wrenching!! As a result I now am a self proclaimed gluten "expert" when it comes to educating school systems as well as other organizations on how to handle the gluten-free lifestyle, as well as the food issues related to children. I hold a degree in Counseling which has been very useful. I also have become very adept at converting recipes as well as making not only gluten-free foods and baked goods, but making them taste good, not just gluten-free. A passion of mine is to help other people with their gluten-free journey. To help them realize that life does not have to be awful and difficult just because they or someone they love has to eat gluten-free. I have a support group for parents who have children with celiac disease. Our goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle and embrace the positives of eating gluen-free. I would welcome the opportunity to continue to help others with their journey down the gluten-free road by writing articles for you at Celiac.com.
