In the majority of people with celiac disease, strict adherence to a gluten-free diet can result in a quality of life that is on par with non-celiacs. Preparing for a Gluten-Free Vacation
We have all had our terrible times at a restaurant. It doesn't matter if it is your local diner or a 5 Star restaurant--it is hard to have somebody make our food if the smallest crumb can make you sick, then ruin your day or week. With a little preparation on your part, you can go on a cruise or dine on food made for a king or queen.

Diagnosis changed Nicole's life forever
Nicole Pritchard, from March, was a healthy young girl until four years ago, when the diagnosis of three medical conditions changed her life forever. Aged nine, she was found to have type one diabetes, and because other conditions can go along with this, was screened and found to have coeliac disease and an underactive thyroid.
Locatelli backs gluten-free campaign
Giorgio Locatelli is challenging fellow chefs to create a gluten-free dish this month as part of a campaign to improve menu choices for people with coeliac disease. Coeliac UK's Food Without Fear campaign, launched today, aims to increase the number of gluten-free dishes offered in restaurants for the estimated 660,000 coeliacs in the UK.
Before going gluten-free, make sure you need to
The good news for people with celiac disease, which means adopting a diet regimen that can be very tough to stick with, is they now have plenty of edible choices to ease that burden. But there's a built-in warning from the medical commuity which comes with all those choices: don't adopt the diet without first making sure you have the disease.
New NICE Guidelines Mean IBS Sufferers Will Be Tested For Coeliac Disease, UK
The symptoms of IBS and coeliac disease can often be very similar as a result the diagnosis of coeliac disease can be delayed or missed and IBS is misdiagnosed. The new guidelines regarding the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) announced recently by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) could ensure this should no longer happen by introducing new diagnostic criteria, which ensures testing for coeliac disease should be undertaken before a final diagnosis of IBS is made.
Coeliac Diagnosis Came As a Relief
WHEN mother-of-two Melanie Evans was diagnosed with coeliac disease, it came as a huge relief finally to have an explanation for feeling so ill and losing weight at an alarming rate. "I was beginning to worry that there was something seriously wrong, like cancer, so it was a great relief to know it was something easily controlled by diet," says Mel, who started to suffer symptoms after giving birth to her first child, Megan, inNovember 2004.
Celiac Awareness Month Goes to the Dogs
May is Celiac Awareness Month and while most dogs do not suffer from Celiac disease in its truest sense, thousands are afflicted with a dog food allergy on some level, often including sensitivity to grain - and their owners have absolutely no idea.
Celiacs are what they eat
Imagine not being able to eat pretzels, pizza, bread, most cereals, cookies, cakes or pastas. Or most convenience foods. Or any of the many supplements or medications that contain gluten -- a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, malt and sometimes oats.

When her 4-year-old son, Ryan, was diagnosed with celiac disease three years ago, Karen Broussard wondered if her family would still be able to eat out and travel as much as they used to. No Gluten, Please
Imagine never again being able to indulge in a slice of warm artisan bread, yummy thick crust pizza or your favorite chocolate chip cookie. If you are diagnosed with celiac disease (CD) or gluten intolerance, your condition won't be treated with pills, but with the prescription of a "gluten-free" diet that rules out these kinds of comfort foods. Giving up wheat, rye, barley and other foods or products that contain gluten can be overwhelming at first, but with time the change in diet can free the gluten intolerant from debilitating physical discomfort and sometimes crippling mental symptoms.

Truth in advertising
I have a good friend who is has celiac disease. He also cannot eat dairy and many other foods. He used to eat what he wanted and live with the consequences. But now that he is older, he says his adverse reactions are worse, so he follows a pretty rigid dietary regimen.
