First of all, I left out the oil. I'm dieting, so I used spray oil to saute the onions, and just didn't feel it was needed. As it got to the end of cooking, I wasn't happy with the texture or consistency. I'm used to a creamier white-bean-chicken chili, and I wanted that. So I added a slurry with 3 tbsp cornstarch. Got near the consistency with that, but it was darker than I wanted. So I then added 1/2 cup fat free half and half. Cooked it an additional 2 hours after that in a slow cooker.

The result got raves from my family. Particularly interesting are the cloves. Definitely use them! I'm glad I did. I actually had to grind up some whole ones, but I'm going to buy some ground cloves next time I'm at the store for the next time around.
