I'm new at this I was just diagnoised with Celiac Disease Last month. Eating gluten free has been an experience. :o :o

I am going on vacation to Cancun I really need to know what are my options as far as alcoholic beverages, I know Beer is out, What Do I drink??? I know it would probably be best if I didn't drink any alcohol but being realistic I need to find something. Can somebody offer any suggestions..

Supposedly, the distillation process renders alcohol safe, but try small amounts first. I find I can not tolerate any of the wheat based alcohols, especially gin. Wine(grapes) rum(sugar cane) and tequila (cactus) are safe as are the vodkas made from potato or grapes. Check the labels of the vodka. Luksusowa is a very good and inexpensive potato vodka.

I don't want to sound like a big ol drunk, but our lives have changed so much that it is nice to be almost normal in some ways. I imagine there will be plenty of tequila in Cancun!!!!

As far as I know, most vodka is Gluten free. Just watch what you mix it with. Keep it simple. Ginger ale or Flavored seltzer and vodka is good. I am newly diagnosed myself!! I know how nerve wracking the thought of traveling is right now. Good luck :) :)

Hi there-

There is a good beer made by a company called redbridge that is gluten free. If you all are newly diagnosed, in addition to this site, there is another website dedicated to educating people about their disease, causes and how to deal with it. go to www.glutensecret.com. It has really helped us!

Best regards,

Ryan
