My Health Story

Entry posted by %s - 217 views

Hey everyone! I have always had a problem with stomach aches. Although they were not bad, they were still there. In sixth grade they started getting worse. The summer between sixth and seventh grade, I started getting acid and some kind of burping. It was horrible. Every night after dinner, it would almost sound like a fireworks show. Also one day at the beginning of summer, I got dizzy. Not just a little bit though, it was HORRIBLE! It wouldn't stop! All day I would just lay on the couch with a wet washcloth over my head. I didn't eat much, I wasn't sure what was wrong with me. I went to my pediatrician and he didn't know what was wrong, so he had me have an MRI. I got the results and nothing was wrong with my head. Then, my doctor sent me to an ear, nose, throat doctor. I had a hearing test and some kind of ear/dizzyness test (where they blew cold and warm air in to my ear... it made me so dizzy that at one point the doctor said that in my head I was going 60 mph in circles in my head) done, and they thought that I have less water in one ear than I should. I guess nothing serious because they didn't do anything to me. I still have it, although my body has gotten used to it, except if I go in the ocean or dive into a pool. Also planes bother me. I am going to the doctor soon, because I am SOOO tired of being dizzy all the time (even if its just a little bit).Back to my stomach- my pediatrician sent me to a gasneurologist. He was a really good doctor and asked about everything. He was especially interested that my cousin was diagnosed with Celiac when she was 5 years old. My uncle recommended that the whole family get tested when she was diagnosed, but I guess we forgot. Anyway, I got the blood test done, and when I got back to the doctor he said it was positive. I had the endoscopy done, and the doctors said that they couldn't tell if I had it because there wasn't enough damage (thankfully!) so they took a sample. A couple days after, the results were in. I had Celiac Disease. I was kind-of glad to have tests done and find out what was wrong with me. But the only problem was, I had worse stomach aches then before than the gluten-free diet. I am still trying to figure that out, but hopefully its just a stage to getting completely better. :) Lisa
