Hair Thinning/not Growing Anymore

Hi!

I'm a college student and was diagnosed with Celiac in June. Since then, my hair has dramatically thinned out, and has stopped growing. It's very concerning to me, and I want to remedy the problem ASAP. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be a symptom of something else? I had my iron levels tested because I thought it could have to do with low iron but they weren't too bad. My doctor doesn't really seem to care but it's a problem that really bothers me. I'd appreciate any help anyone has!

Thanks,
K

I was diagnosed with sma syndrome back in March 08' and I don't know how to even start handling it. I think about it all of the time and I'm really scared of what could happen. I feel the pain and discomfort of it almost everyday. Its not as bad as it was last year but its just about the same though. I seen a couple of doctors about it and all they can tell me right now is to try to change my diet and see where that goes. When they diagnosed me my spacing around my artery was only 4mm. I can't even play with my kids sometimes. I just really need some kinda guidence I've been on my own most of my life without parents so this is really tuff on me. I just wanna feel better.

Someone To Talk To

Hey everyone,

I am a college student who was recently diagnosed with celiac's disease. Often I find myself frustrated and dissapointed with friends and family members because they have a hard time understanding the things I struggle with in regards to living the gluten free lifestyle (fear of restaurants, cooking in other kitchens, and insisting on preparing my own foods for the holidays to name a few!). It would be nice if I had someone else my age to talk to about these issues, but I seem to be the only one in this area (Central California) with celiac disease. Is there anyone else out there needing someone to talk to too?

Sarah
sequoiacyclist@yahoo.com

Vegetarian & Celiac

Hello everyone, my name's Emma.
I'm 15 years old and in about May of this year I started getting a rash when I ate the majority of foods (the noted ones being bread and noodles ). I work in a pet shop and so I see many dogs with intolerances to gluten so this was one of the first things that came to mind.
I've been a vegetarian since I was about 4 and so far this had never caused any problems, my diet had been healthy enough but I was really dependent on pasta, noodles and that sort of food.
I haven't been diagnosed with celiac disease, because I'm literally terrified of needles, but basically when I don't eat gluten I don't have a rash, when I do eat it I get a rash, so you get the point.
The doctor won't refer me to a dietician because I won't get bloods done, regardless of the fact that research I have done says that these tests are sometimes inconclusive.
To be honest I'm finding it very difficult to stick to what I'm allowed and sometimes I'll see a really nice looking piece of proper bread or something and eat it . The gluten free bread is horrible.
It's leaving me very weak and I'm picking up every illness going round, at the minute I'm lying in bed with a tummy bug. I'm missing a lot of school because of it .
So does anyone have any advice on coping with it? And should I be taking supplements or anything?
Emma.

Any One Hv To Drop Out Of School To Get Better?

Hi I was diagnosed in august and been gluten free for six weeks. I am still learning what I can and can't eat. It's taking a while. Did any other college students hv to dropp classes or stop going to school because of their symptoms? Just wondering cause I see alot of post where people are able to continue one way or another with being productive through the day and accomplishing things but for me it's different. Brain fog, fatigue, Weakness, eating every two hours, anxiety, and depression holds me back. It's frustrating for me because I'm not used to feeling like this I am usually a the opposite from this. It'd be nice to hear other stories of how recovery went when you first found out. If you had a hard time. Basically right now all I do is stay home rest watch tv, read, play games, research celiac, and cook sometimes when I feel good. It's such an up and down thing. Feel good then feel crappy. I really love to draw(fine art major) but the brain fog messes me up can't even think of simple things being creative usually comes instantanious but it's a stuggle right now. Iv written off the "arist block" cuz it's jut been so long. Anyway if anyone else in college feels the same way or going through similar things it'd be nice to hear from ya.

Moving Out New Issues

Okay, so I feel a little ridiculous writing in as I have been dealing with Celiac for 16 years (I'm 19, diagnosed around my third birthday) but I recently moved out of my parent's house (I took a gap year last year during which I lived in apartments and houses with several others and this year I'm in college) and I'm finding that a lot of new issues are coming up. When I was younger and ate most of my meals with my parents I was very careful and never cheated and had something that I new could have gluten, but now that I'm eating more with friends I'm having a hard time being as careful. Whenever I go out to eat with friends or even if I'm in the dining hall, I feel like I can't ask too many questions or be too demanding that we go somewhere that I can eat because it's so inconvenient for them. I've tried just insisting that my health has to come before what someone feels like eating, but usually people just tell me that I'm being too uptight or that I don't trust them enough. One guy in my apartment last year even called me a food nazi because I put signs up by the fridge saying "please no double dipping!" after I found crumbs in the butter (I had already asked people to be careful and they'd all agreed). I know that I should withstand the pressure and make eating safely my top priority but I don't want to sacrifice friends and experiences. Any advice?

Symptoms....am I Doing Everything ?

About a year ago I was undergoing my first real bad sickness, a sinus infection. Eventually one night I started to burp a lot and I lost my breath...Since then for a year everyday I live with a shortness of breath, sometimes its not that bad (but i'm still not breathing normal) and other times its a struggle to get a breath. It doesn't seem life threatening, because i'v never had to go for the hospital for it, or have passed out. I under went a lot of tests and back about agust 26th of this year, I found out that I had celiac Disease. Since then to today I have been doing a gluten free diet...Purchasing gluten free items, items that arn't processed where wheat is and etc. I'v also been making myself my own food. I have been on this diet for about a month now, and I'm not seeing any improvements. I also seem to maintain a lot of phlegm goop as well as yellow goop here and there. This all started when I was 17, and I'm now 18. I often feel a lot of goop in my throat that feels almost impossible to get rid of. I feel as if I breathe, and I feel it in my throat.

This has gotten on my nerves not being able to fully breath probably, and makes a lot of things difficult for me, especially experiencing all this goop, i hate it...

Can this all be occuring because of my celiac disease ? Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease I ate out a lotttttt, with a pretty bad diet.

Can anyone relate to this feeling, or maybe something is actually triggering all these issues I have ? Like I said its been about a month with no improvements, I also get the bloating and stomache pains which are horrid ontop of the shortness of breath, and sometimes I have to spit a lot.

I go to school, and I work a lot of hours, and its hard to get by when you feel this shortness of breath all the time and feel congested and tight chested.

Other Symptoms include : Ear Pressure / pain, Watery eyes that I have to shut and I get a tremor sorta feeling through my ears/head at the same time. Hard to focus.... I'll try looking at something say right now at the computer screen, and I get a feeling of fog like i can't focus clearly on the screen, and often feel like i lose my train of thought, i'll feel out of it, i feel dizzy, and sort of disoriented, I really hate this feeling, because it sorta just makes you feel like your isolated and things are a blur to you while someone else may see things clearly/ I'll get muscle pains, and Tingly and shaky. Often have stomache pain feelings like....i can't let my stomache hang because it'll hurt, but also I just can't relax it cause i feel pain. I feel tired and weak.

Low-gluten Host

Hi this is my first time making a post on this forum. I was diagnosed as a Celiac about a month and a half ago. I have had some very bad symptoms without realizing where they came from for a really long time. I have been free from Gluten for about a month, and one thing I wanted to ask about is if I am maybe getting a little overboard. I am a Roman Catholic and since I learned I am a Celiac I have been trying to use low-gluten hosts from some Benedictine nuns that contain 100 ppms or 37 micrograms of gluten. I have come to understand that these have such a small amount of gluten in them that they should not bother Celiacs, but I am pretty sure I am having a reaction to them. I know that thirty minutes after receiving one I had bad migraines and then I was fatigued all the next day. I have had one person comment saying I am making myself believe I am going to get sick, so I start to feel symptoms, but I am pretty sure I can't think up migraines. My question is has anyone had a similar experience with the hosts, and is it possible to be that sensitive to such a low amount of Gluten?

I am trying to make sure that I am not getting gluten from anywhere else, so that I can test it, but since I don't know if it is even possible I am wondering if maybe I can think and thus feel Celiac Symptoms. Any comments would be great.

Is Anyone Able To Explain This?

Hello all, this is my first post on these forums so please take it easy on me .
I guess I'll start from the beginning. About 2 months ago I came to the realization that I
might have a gluten intolerance because out of the blue, about a year ago, I noticed that certain foods like bread, cereal and pasta would all give me indigestion. When this indigestion first started I had no idea about gluten intolerance and just continued eating my regular diet. Around the time that I turned 22 I started to get curious about why this indigestion kept happening to me so I did what a lot of people on this site probably did and started googling.
After a little searching I came across the topic of gluten intolerance/celiac disease and began to wonder if this is what the problem was.

Now that I had a possible answer to my problem I decided to test it out so I went gluten "free" for a while and noticed that my indigestion problem disappeared. Now for my question. After discovering that I might have a gluten intolerance I noticed that certain foods that contain gluten didn't bother my digestive system while others did. For example kellogg's bran flakes, brand named breads (like wonder bread) and chef boyardee ravioli would all give me terrible indigestion but foods like Fiber1 cereal, bread (that was made fresh in a bakery), hamburgers (homemade and fast food) and spaghetti would not give me any digestion issues whatsoever. So I was wondering if anyone had an explanation for this "anomaly". Thanks in advance!
