Long story short, I saw an Oral Surgeon Monday about a molar that split.. All 4 molars came in with the enamel missing in the center of the teeth (when I was 6)... I'm sure it was undiagnosed Celiac... When I filled out the Medical History sheet, I didn't give Iodine a thought as an allergic to.....

My question is if one has Dermatitis Herpetiformis, are they allergic to Iodine?

I Don't Know What This Is

I have had small, raised red bumps on my arms, chest, and shoulders/neck since... well, since forever. I have changed detergent (I've used baby detergent, sensitive, everything!). So not that. My mom and sister have them, too (although celiac is on my dad's side).

Anyway, they are not very big, but bright red with a white middle. They itch, but not to the point were I can't sleep usually (sometimes they are SUPER itchy though). The bumps last a long time, then leave a weird red bruise-like scar.

I have mentioned this to my dermatologist who was less than interested. He really could care less. My mom went to the same derm and he looked at them (a bit more interested with her), but could not tell her what they were. She does not have them on her arms, chest, or neck - she unfortunately has it on her rear end! My sister has them in the same spots that I do.

I am not sure if this is DH or not - if not, does anyone have keratosis pilaris? If so, do those itch??

Thanks in advance for any info!!

Juicing And Dh

Has anyone used juicing to help heal digestive tract and provide enzymes and nutrition?

How has skin reacted? I thought it might be a good thing to do since the body does not seem to absorb vitamins and supplements in pill form, when it is so wrecked from Celiac.

I do not like many vegetables and don't eat a lot of fruit, so for me, I wondered if this is what got me in this bad shape in the first place, along with processed food.

A friend bought a Champion Juicer, and I have had beet/green/carrot veg juice and fruit juices.

Funny, but I don't mind the veggies in the juice, but I hate beets, kale, spinach. I will eat salad with basic veggies and cook with celery, onions, garlic, peppers.

I sure have a lot of energy after the veggie juice, and it is mood lifting. Seems to clear brain fog.

Rash In Armpit?

I have been eating gluten foods for the last week or 2. I enjoyed them...but got the consequences for eating them : migraine, irritability, brian fog, aches and pains, stomache issues, fatigue. Now, I have this rash in my left armpit, incredibly itchy, very red. Is this the Dermatitis herpetiformis? I never read of it being located in the pits. I am itchy all over, but thats the only place where I am broken out. I do have the occasional bump or rash if thats what it is near hairline and near facial line. Every where else is itchy like i got bugs crawling on me. NAd yes I am extremely stressed these days in addition to eating the gluten which is why i ate the gluten.....comfort food. Any thoughts?

Ho's Ho's and bread were simply yummy!!!!! And the nilla wafers.

I Have Just Read Some Info That Dh Can Be Caused By Other Things With No Evidence Of Celiac At All

Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis (APD) is a circumstance in which the menstrual rhythm is associated with an amount of rind findings such as urticaria, eczema, angioedema, and others. The circumstance presents with a kind of rind eruptions characterized by cyclical recurrent premenstrual exacerbations payable to progesterone variation during the menstrual rhythm. Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis usually presents during early adult life, and the disease may periodically go into spontaneous remission. Exogenous progesterone (eg, in oral contraceptives containing progestational agents like norethindrone or synthetic progestogens like norgestrel or levonorgestrel) may aggravate the skin eruptions of autoimmune progesterone dermatitis. Some women with chronic urticaria experience cyclical exacerbations of their skin condition corresponding with the menstrual cycle, and it is possible that progesterone plays a role in this process.

Severity of symptoms can change from almost imperceptible to anaphylactic in nature, and symptoms can be liberal. There are no particular histological features on biopsy in autoimmune progesterone dermatitis. The age of onslaught is varying, with the earliest age reported at menarche. The symptoms of APD correlate with progesterone levels during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Symptoms may first appear, improve, or worsen during pregnancy and the peripartum period. In addition, autoimmune progesterone dermatitis during pregnancy has been associated with spontaneous abortions. This disease may become worse during pregnancy. Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis must be differentiated from perimenstrual flares of skin diseases such as acne, dermatitis herpetiformis, erythema multiforme, lichen planus, lupus erythematosus, psoriasis and estrogen dermatitis.

The diagnosis of Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis requires a proper clinical story accompanied by an intradermal injection examination with progesterone. Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis is normally impervious to traditional therapy such as antihistamines. The use of systemic glucocorticoids, usually in high doses, has been reported to control the cutaneous lesions of APD is some studies, but not in others. Oral contraceptives are often tried as initial therapy, but have had limited success, possibly due to the fact that virtually all oral contraceptives have a progesterone component. Conjugated estrogens have also been used in the treatment of autoimmune progesterone dermatitis. Tamoxifen, a nonsteroidal antiestrogen agent, may be effective in some patients but may cause amenorrhea. In some cases, the eruptions often settle spontaneously after a period of successful treatment.

Digg!

Users Reading this article are also interested in;

• Dermatitis Herpetiformis, by Juliet Cohen
• Dermatitis Herpetiformis, by Madonna Jeffries
• Treatment Options For Dermatitis, by ebookpalace
Top Searches on Skin Disorders
• Treatment Of Eczema	• Treatment For Eczema

About The Author, Juliet Cohen

Juliet Cohen writes articles for health doctor.
Bumps Are Back What Do You Think?

A little over a year ago, my then 7 yr old daughter was covered with molluscum and eczema and what I always suspected was DH but it was never confirmed and I really didn't know. In December 2008 she went gluten free and all of her skin issues resolved completely.

I know we have had accidental glutening over the past year witgh sauces at restaurants or other things that had less obvious gluten but her skin never broke out again. I put DH out of my mind. But, 2 days ago, all of a sudden, she has 7 bumps that look like the beginning of what she had before (5 on the fronts of her thighs, one behind her knee and one on her shoulder). They are red and look like large pimples starting up again and very itchy but the itchy comes and goes. She is terrified of a skin biopsy and I'm not sure I'd be able to get her to the appt if she knew that was happening.

I'm not sure if you will be able to tell from this picture. They are more red in real life. Could this be DH? I really don't want to subject her to the biopsy. If we are gluten free anyway, is it worth it to find out? Right now we are just putting her eczema steriod cream on them which is helping with the itching.

http://images1f.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ff...6%3A93338nu0mrj

She has low normal IgA and elevated Anti Gladian IgG and has not been diagnosed with Celiac. However, she can tell that she needs to stay away from gluten for her skin and her behavior and anger issues so she will probably never go back to gluten.

Thanks for looking and letting me know your thoughts.

Susan

Dh Reaction To Medicines? Vitamin C?

We're are 90% sure that my husband has DH. He was never tested officially but the only thing that the terrible rash on his scalp reacted to was his going gluten-free. He's been off gluten for about two and half months with fantastic results, until the past two weeks. He got sick last week and took OTC meds and had a reaction. It took me a couple of days to figure out that it could be gluten (he was taking generic ibuprofen and cold meds). Once he stopped taking two particular medicines he's DH improved and almost completely cleared up. Unfortunately he was still sick and went to the doctor. He has bronchitis and was prescribed a Z-pack and was told to take Mucinex-D. His DH came back full-force. I asked the pharmacist about the Z-pack and gluten and she couldn't find anything in there. My husband thinks it has something to do with sugar because he was eating a lot of fruits and fruit popsicles. He said he felt itchy after eating the fruit (but he's still eating rice pudding!).

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Could it be the antibiotic or the Vitamin C? His course will be done in two days so I guess we'll see for sure then. Just wondering if anyone else had this type of reaction early on.

THANKS!!

Does your rash go from flat and dry, to weeping, itching, hot and raised, several times during the course of one 24 hour period? Peeling and crusty, flakey at times. At other time like an ulcer? A spot might be dry with flakey skin but still oozes a clear or pale yellow watery liquid.

Worse at night or upon waking?

So itchy, that it feels like it goes thru skin, muscle and to the bone?

Skin surface is raw and tender, but you have to scratch, pinch anyway?

When you scratch it "hurts so good" almost weirdly orgasmic at times. But when you stop it stings, burns and hurts.

Lumpy when actively itching. Hurts to put pressure on it or sit?

Just when you think it might be healing, flat and dry, it goes crazy and starts weeping?
I Wore A Dress Today!

okay I am risking bragging here... hoping I won't experience the retribution of an outbreadk

I got this rash, last October (2008) on my feet, ankles, and upper lower legs that made it impossible to wear a dress! Fortunately my job makes nice pants an acceptable alternative. That's ok in the winter and early spring....

but I had a real issue in June. there was this family wedding. I went against all fashion rules and wore dark black pantyhose with my dress... it was the only way to coneal that ugly rash.

I went gluten free early August.. Had another family wedding at the end of that month! although the rash was a little better, still needed to conceal with the dark black pantyhose.

Fast forward to end of October. Sudden death in the family, requiring quick out of town trip for the funeral.. no time to shop. I had in my drawer an "off black" pair of pantyhose, perfectly appropriate, but much more sheer than what I had worn in the summer.

Guess what! My self-diagnosed (and treated, thru gluten free eating) rash had minimized so much, that the remaining almost healed spots, and residual scars, were not that visible thru the panythose!!

it may sound like such a little thing to brag about.. but...I can't help it!

Digging My Skin Off In A Rash Gone Wile - Dh? Your Opinion Please?

Hi everyone,

About a month ago I started developing a rash just out of nowhere - woke up one morning with a rash on my right shoulder - the blisters were kind of large - almost welt like hives - and initially I thought it was Shingles. It itched and burned and was awful. I went to the Dr. that morning, and he looked at it and said yes, it was Shingles, and put me on Valtrex and gave me steroid creme. He told me to take Benadryl for the itching when I could be home, and take Clariten 24 hour when I couldn't.

The Benadryl didn't help the itch, and neither does the Clariten.

The rash morphed from large welt like blisters to smaller almost pimple like blisters and then sort of faded for a while from that area, but meanwhile, it appeared on my right leg below my knee - again, circular, large welt like almost hive looking things that itched and burned like crazy - and then they sort of morphed into pimple looking things. They hurt too bad to scratch initially and I continued to take the valtrex and use the steroid cream. Then, suddenly, all "heck" broke loose. It was on the top of my right foot, on my toes, then on the top and arch on my left foot, then up my left leg on the front of it below my knee - it appeared to be traveling in patches. As it spread, I would feel a burning sensation hours before any marks would appear and then sure enough, the large round spots would pop out. Now, a month later, I've had it on all of the areas I mentioned above, plus the back of my left lower leg, on the tops of both feet and on the tops of all toes, on the tops of many of my fingers, on the pads of several of my fingers, and even on the "heels" of one of my hands, it's formed particularly bad at my elbows at both arms and spread down the outer aspect (the part of the arm that woudl lay like up against a table or something) of both arms from just above the elbow all the way down the pinky binger and up the right leg to the buttock. It still stings and burns before new bumps pop out, and the still come out round, but they don't seem as if they come out as large now - they are still circular, but what is all over me now is an almost course pimply feeling rash that itches so bad I just scratch and dig all the time. I have even scratched patches of skin off my feet while I slept

My family Dr. looked at it, said essentially he had no idea, and referred me to a Derm, who I don't see until November 5 - I really feel like I just can't make it until then - this itching is so bad I'm getting desperate - I want to scream and cry when it gets at it's worst - there is *no* soothing the itching it - no benadryl, no clariten, no aveeno, no steroid cream, no anti-itch cream that works - nothing.

No one in my family has this rash. No one at work has this rash - leading me to think not contagious. One Dr. (my neuro) looked at it and declared it was Impetigo (he's kind of a jerk) but my family Dr. said absolutely not.

I have never had one blister on my face or neck - none on my head, my ears, etc. I have had itchy welt like red areas on my stomach and my breasts, but they did not form into the pimple like things - they just itched like crazy for days and then went away.

Does this sound like it could be DH to you? If not, got any other ideas? I could have DH take pictures, but don't know where to post them to show you. The areas on my legs are healing up good now, but they still itch despite the marks going away. My feet itch like crazy still. It does seem worse when I get hot. I have not yet attempted Gluten Free - I read that I should wait and let the tests confirm it before making diet changes so as not to alter the tests ...

Opinions please?

Thanks in advance,

Stacie
