Anyone With Postural Misalignment?

Hi everyone,

I have postural misalignment that I found out after reading Egoscue's books. The thing is I have always imagined my misalignment was from sports and running. In my 20s, I was a runner and I had to stop running and also withdraw from other physical activities that would engage my ankles or my knees. For example, I don't run on a treadmill I only walk fast. I do a bit of cycling but not much. I was always told nothing was wrong with my bones and body structure after checking everything. That was until someone told me about hip misalignment that causes knee and ankle pain. So, I have researched on how to correct but I never questioned the cause.
Now, I just got curious and wanted to know if there was a celiac connection...after some googling, I found out gluten sensitivity could be a cause for misalignment because gluten weakens the muscles. In my teen years and even later, I suffered from calcium and other mineral deficiencies...maybe other vitamins too.

I have read on this website that gluten sensitivity hurts each and everyone of us in a different way. Anyway, now that I hit the 40, I don't know if there is any hope that after going gluten free for some years, I might be able to run again without pain. I really missed running all these years.

Please read these pages:

http://www.Lame Advertisement.com/glutensensitivity#module8855411

http://library.thinkquest.org/24206/applied-kinesiology.html

And don't hesitate to share if you have more on the topic. Thanks for reading.

Gluten Free Diet And Relief Of Chronic Joint Pain

Hi,

I was diagnosed at the end of August and have started the gluten free diet on August 18th (about 2 months on the diet). I had thyroid cancer which may or may not be related to my celiac disease other then that my worst problems have been fatigue and joint pain. Since starting the diet I have experienced a huge improvement for the fatigue but the joint pain is still be unbareable. I take a steady dose of Lodene (anti-inflamatory) help manage the pain. I love playing hockey and the continued pain is very discourageing. I'm trying to be patient and and stay positive. If you have had a similiar experience to mine, how long did it take for your joint pain to improve?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi all,

I just had a soccer practice and it's almost 30 degrees celcius today. By the end my hands were so swollen that I could hardly bend my fingers!

Recently I flew on a plane and my feet swelled up so bad they hurt in my sandles.

I've read about celiac disease and water retention and am wondering if others have the same experience, especially after playing sports.

Thanks
Jillian

Gluten & Asthma Symptoms

When I was being tested for celiac disease I was told that having asthma makes it a little more likely that I have it because both celiac disease and asthma are immune-mediated disorders/diseases.

I've been gluten-free for 5 1/2 weeks now and was doing fantastic until Saturday afternoon when (accidentally, of course) I got glutened. Last night I played soccer and my asthma was really acting up. I took all my puffers and meds as per usual and had a really good warm up, yet I was wheezy and had trouble breathing for a lot of the game.

My ashtma usually acts up in the first 10 minutes and then calms down and doesn't bother me until maybe the very end of the game.

Does anyone else notice their asthma symptoms worsen after being glutened? Or could it be something else? I notice I am still a bit short of breath this morning which hasn't been happening since I went gluten-free, yet before my Dx I was having a lot of shortness of breath.

Thanks
Jillian

Karate

I spend about 9 hours a week in the dojo... I shied away from running because I am 54 and know that I did have mild osteoporosis 2 years ago when I had bone density test. This is one of "our" problems. I take calcium with OJ for that. I'm not near as worried about the kicks & bumps in the dojo as I am about the mis-step on the trail.

Just got a blue stripe on my green belt Friday -- I've been doing this less than a year, started when I realized how much damage I had after putting up with an inconsiderate (process of divorce) husband for 15 years after I knew what the problem was. It's hard to explain, but the mental part of the training really helps cut through the fog.

Marathon Training :-)

I'm running the Maine Marathon and am gluten intolerant. Does anyone have any suggestions on good ways to carb load the night before?? Also suggestions for the morning of the race?? I have been getting the Gu gels and "enjoy" them..lol. At least I won't complain, they could be worse, and having the gluten intolerance has really made me stop obsessing so much over weird textures in foods!

*Shameless plug* Also, if any of you out there would like to help out and donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support me, I'd appreciate it :-) There is a bonus if you are in the Boston area, I'm giving away some Red Sox Tickets... heck even if you aren't and you win, you could sell them :-)

Early Fatigue

I have been gluten free for over two weeks... But since the upper endoscopy/colonoscopy I have been so tired, fatigued that I cannot complete my normal level of workouts.

I am a certified personal trainer and I am used to 30-60 minutes of cardio followed by at least 30 mins of strength training. My muscles are fatiguing early during cardio and I am not able to finish my strength training due to muscle fatigue.

I think it is due to poor absorption of nutrients/vitamins... Has anyone out there had the same issue? Anyone have any tips on upping energy safely and smartly... What about a B12 shot?

Severe Knee Pain

Hi everyone,

I was very recently diagnosed (gluten-free for a week now!). For the past 6 weeks I've been experiencing severe knee pain. At first our team athletic therapist thought it was tendonitis from over-use after a tournament. I rested it and have been icing it twice a day, but last night it was so bad I had to ask to be taken out of my soccer match. I play for a first division, highly competitive team and love it like crazy. I talked to my DR and he wants to see if after some time on the diet the knee pain dissipates, but I'm in a tourney this weekend and I want to play! My AT said to try heat now because the ice wasn't working... Does anyone have any advice for things I can do to reduce the pain and prevent further injuring my knees?

I know that arthritis and joint pain are assocated with celiac disease, but it was such a sudden onset I was sure it was tedonitis from playing 5 games in one weekend at a tourney. The pain is mostly at the bottom (front) of my kneecaps and somewhat on the inside of my knee. I've gotten new orthotics, taken advil before the games, and followed all my AT's advice, but it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I hope someone has some ideas as to what I can do! I love soccer and it is very frustrating not to be able to play.

Thanks,
Jillian

Undiagnosed Celiac Affect Muscle Growth And Fat Loss?

Hi everyone!

My name is Vania and I've been training like mad for the past month. I workout 4 times a week for at least 40 minutes and there have been no changes to my body at all!! I lost 3 lbs but the bloating and extra stubborn fat are still exactly the same way they were when I first started. This doesn't make any sense because I have been on a really clean diet and I don't eat more than 1300 or 1400 cals a day! I can't lose anymore weight because I look like I'm too thin but the fat just won't go away!!!!! I haven't been diagnosed, I'm acutally in the process of getting that done but I know I have it and my daughter does as well. I was just wondering if some of you have had problems getting the results you were looking for or the desired fat loss, and if those problem areas disappeared after you were diagnosed and changed your diet. Can celiac disease actually eat away at your muscles if you're not on a gluten-free diet and keep you from developping good muscle tone?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know about your personal experiences with training. Thanks.

Lifting And Jogging...

For the past month I am trying to get back into shape and start building some more muscle. I am 5'8'' and weigh 150lbs. So my weekly routine is the gym about 5-6 times and at the gym I do general lifting of all muscles. I have heard that i should give my muscles a break but I am focusing more on form than weight is this ok to do the same lifts everyday?

The real focus of this thread is to say that my daily routing consists of about 35 minutes of lifting and the 25 minutes of running on the treadmill. Recently after cruising these forums I saw a post where someguy was saying how bad it is to go swimming after you lift weights because your blood flow will be dispersed. Is this true? Should I run before I lift, or should I continue doing it after as like I usually do it? Comments on everything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Any Athletes With A Similar Experience?

I just joined today and have found this site to be filled with great information. I am only one month into being gluten free and I am an avid runner. My running has improved incredibly. I knocked off 3 minutes off of a 7 mile run that I do all the time, placed in a race and my resting heart rate went from 58-60 to 48-51! I can't believe the difference and I haven't even realized my full potential. My body must have been really suffering and compensating whenever I ran since I now don't have that mental fight anymore and I feel like I have so much energy. Has anyone had a similar experience? Each day is still so exciting when I run. I'm now learning how to eat, carb load, and manage this disease. I'm 39 and I feel I have had this for at least 8 years. I know my body pretty well and once I hit 30 things were just not the same anymore.

Thanks to all for doing the research when it comes to carb loading and sports drinks/bars. Please share, I would love to hear any athletes who have had similar experiences.

-Run like an animal
