Geneteic Testing In Canada?

I'm sure this has been posted in the past. Does anyone know if there are any Canadian companies doing genetic testing for celiac? Have any Canadians had genetic testing done? Were you happy with the process? Does anyone know what these companies do with your genetic information after?

I've been gluten-free for over four years, but I'm curious about my genes.

Thanks in advance.

European Union Codex Standard (eucs) Bread Or Mixes.

I am fairly new to the gluten-free diet and still trying various bread recipes and mixes. I just tried Toro Celiac-Safe white bread mix that is made in Norway to European gluten-free standards. At the tasteslikerealfood.com site (the US distributor of this mix)- they say European manufacturers include some wheat gluten in their products to improve the taste and texture. They state these products contain no more than 20 PPM so they meet the European standard and can be called gluten free. They also state that the US is considering adopting the European standard of no more than 20 PPM. I am curious to know if anyone who has eaten both US gluten-free bread, and the products made to EUCS requirements, find that they feel "glutened" by the foreign bread but can tolerate the US products. I don't think the bread I just made contains the wheat gluten because the package says, "Made with naturally gluten free ingredients." I don't feel any different on the gluten-free diet so I can't make this determination myself.

Nancy

If anyone lives in the Bow Valley (Canmore/Banff) there is a great restaurant called Crazy Weeds (Canmore) that has a separate gluten-free menu. Not cheap, but superb.

There is also a new restaurant/cafe that offers gluten-free crepes (savoury or sweet) somewhere on main street in Canmore. The owner is gluten sensitive so she is very familiar with our needs. I forget the name, but I'll try to look it up.

Danone Email Reply - Gluten Free Products

Hi

I emailed Danone today to inquire if the activia yogurt is gluten free and I received the following response:

.....................

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Danone has only 1 lines of yogurts that contain or may contain gluten: Activia.

Some Activia flavors contains gluten and nuts, consequently, even if we do two complete rinsings between flavors, its may contain trace of nuts. This is only for the multipacks.

On the other hand, the 650g containers are manufactured on different lines (no cross contamination possible between flavors).
The Activia 650g: plain, vanilla, strawberry and prune are gluten and nuts free.

All the other Danone product are gluten and nuts free.

As a guideline, we always write on the ingredients list if a yogurt contains gluten or nuts.

You can be assured of Danone's consideration for all comments and questions from its customers.

Hello,
I have been AWOL from the board for a while, and guess what, I am only back cause I need something

Can anyone in the Auckland city area advise on availability of gluten free bread from grocery stores over there? I'll be in Auckland after Christmas and I'll be staying in a hotel. I'm thinking about taking a toaster with me so I can make toast as a snack during my stay, but if possible want to avoid having to take a supply of gluten-free bread as well.

If anyone can recommend cafes/restaurants in Auckland CBD as well, I'd be very grateful!

Wondering if digestive enzymes are helpful. If so, when and why? Do people just use them when dealing with an accidental glutening or on a daily basis?

Also. PLEASE indicate a gluten-free digestive enzyme in Canada (I'm in Toronto). Do you get these things at a health food store?

Thanks much eveyone!

KDawg
