Joint Pain And Hives Getting Worse Again!?

I really don't know what is going on with my body but this is scaring me. I thought I had really figured things out when my doc and I discovered there was a gluten connection....via she diagnosed Dermatis Herpetaformis and said don't eat gluten anymore. Followed that advise and diarrhea, joint pain and itchy skin got better then a few weeks later I got this spreading rash that got worse and worse and thru paying attention to what I ate I wondered if I had other food allergies.....got IgG delayed food allergy test done and it came back positive to eggs, soy, casein and low reactive to almonds, potatoes and tomatoes. Anyway I had been avoiding all those food and the rash improved massively. Now I'm starting to get hives again on my knuckles and finger joints and hands and they itch and my joints in my hands are hurting again. This worries me because this is around the same time last year when all this began and the pain got so bad in my hands I couldn't open a door, change a diaper, etc. The doc thought I had RA..I was tested for everything...all came back negative. It was around that time that in doing my own reasearch I though well maybe it was systemic candia.???? Did the Candia Diet and with-in days pain and diarrhea went away. THis was before the gluten connection was even a thought. I still had some pain in my hands but it was greatly reduced...I believe now the reason why I improved was probably due to that I was mostly gluten free on the candia diet and why I still had some pain was because I would still have some gluten every now in then. But now I'm scared because I keep thinking maybe I do have some other autoimmune disease that hasn't been diagnosed yet...I already have two autoimmune diseases.???? Now I'm wondering is there something in our water since our water stinks again.....this happened last year around the same time. I called the water company and they said there was an algae bloom and the water was just tested and it clean and safe to drink. I'm wondering since it is common for this to happen every year and they have to treat the water with chemicals. Maybe my body can't handle those chemicals. Should I have my water tested on its own. Or maybe since it is getting wet and damp now....is it mold that is giving me issues...since I have mold allergies. Or is it candida again? Any one has similiar experience? I have avoided gluten for almost three months and other allergic foods for almost 3 weeks. I could do the candia diet again but it is extremely hard since I'm six months pregnant and hungry all the time and now with all these food allergies basically my choices are meat, fish, veggies and fruit. I'm soooooo sick of this. I just want to fell good. Can yeast really cause this many issues?

Getting The Intestines Back Into Good Shape

Hey everybody, since getting my IBS diagnosis this summer I've been around forums specifically for that (since I've been eating wheat after collapsing on the GAPS diet.) It's all a long story, but basically I got worse on GAPS and my doctor doesn't really want anything else to do with me because he has no more ideas.

The people on the IBS forums however do not embrace alternative therapies, treatments or ideas quite like the folks here do I've found; at the mention of "leaky gut" they rush to inform me that the medical professionals don't believe it exists and assure me that IBS is a condition in itself, not just the results of bacterial dysbiosis or food allergies.

I would expect everyone to be so desperate for relief that they would at least consider everything! Anyway, I'm back to square one, with nothing but IBS and a bunch of clean test results. Here's the dilemma: On the GAPS diet I lapsed into unformed fatty stools, sometimes passing pure liquid fat. However, a stool test I then did came back showing no malabsorption of fats! I don't know, I really don't. But at this point it's clear that no amount of low-carb dieting can cure me; I've read GAPS and I've read Breaking The Vicious Cycle and I believe whole-heartedly that they're effective and well-grounded strategies, however I'm sorry to say that apparently the inability to digest carbs isn't a universal problem for people with digestive problems.

Sorry to rant, I promise I'll get to the point now that I've vented my frustrations...whew...okay: I want to get my intestines back into good shape. It's the only thing that is evidently wrong, and whether or not it makes me feel better I want to get them right.

I mean killing the bad bacteria and yeasts, getting rid of the heavy metals and reestablishing the good bacteria, while eliminating any foods I've become sensitive to. So thus far, here is my plan:

1 Take a parasite stool test
2 Take a stool test measuring bacterial levels (to see where I'm at and check for candida/pathogens)
3 Take the food sensitivity test (can't post company name I guess) and begin the proper elimination and rotation diet
4 Take a heavy metals test and, if positive begin...chelating, I think it's called? Removing the metals anyway
5 Eliminate any parasites, pathogens or candida
6 Start a good hypnotherapy program for my anxiety and intestinal issues
7 Now if you haven't heard of this I warn you, steel your stomach: Fecal Transplant, which is exactly what it sounds like; taking good, healthy poo from a donor and inserting it via enema into yourself. I've been discussing this with people who have tried it for their UC and reported amazing results. I'm convinced it's the best (if not the only, because I haven't seen any benefits from regular probiotics) way to replenish all the hundreds of various types of beneficial bacteria in the human intestines.

So my questions are, have I missed anything? What other steps should I consider taking/avenues should I pursue? And also, what do you all think about colon cleansing, useful or bogus?

Thanks for any opinions, criticisms or additions to the plan, I'm really trying to hit the issue from all sides. I feel as if I haven't gotten better because I've tried all these plans by themselves; diets without checking for food sensitivities, probiotics without first removing pathogens etc.

Thanks again,

-Jesse

How Will I Know When Candida Is Gone?

I've pretty much determined that Leaky Gut from candida and/or flora imbalance is the root of my gluten and other food intolerances. I'm gluten-free and free of just about any source high in carbs - can't do potatoes, squash, most fruits, etc. And I'm supplementing with some things recommended for killing Candida & healing my gut. This process began in 5/2009 with going gluten-free and then figuring out that other things triggered digestive upset as well (mostly high-carb food). So, I'm low/no sugar and following most of the candida diet recommendation, eating 24 hour yogurt, etc.

Any idea how long to keep on with the supplements? And when/how can I know that I've killed the little buggers???

Thanks, Jana

Back To Basics gluten-free Diet

Like at least some here, I have tried both the Paleo and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Neither really fits me although both have helped given their avoidance of the standard American diet--even the gluten-free variety. What I propose is a diet based on both simplicity and moderation. Eat whole foods. Don't emphasize too much of anything. Avoid sugars and overall avoid a diet emphasizing a preponderance of grains or other starch (in particular avoid eating a diet which emphasizes ground up grains). Consider eating more roots and squash. Eat lots of greens. Eat some fruit (if you can handle it--I can't unfortunately). Balance this with digestible proteins (meat or fish, yogurt, seeds, beans or nuts or eggs if you can digest them) also in moderation. Use digestible oils and fats added to one's food as needed--like olive and coconut oil and real butter. Drink plenty of water between meals. Use herbs and digestive enzymes, minerals and vitamins as needed. Use some sea salt with meals. This may seem too obvious and simple--however I think it would be helpful and healing for many. It is at any rate what I intend to explore. If anyone here wishes to explore with me, let's do so!

Bea

Should My Kiddo Be Casein-free?

I'm wondering if I need to take kiddo(11) casein-free and would appreciate some advice, support etc. I guess I feel overwhelmed and can't seem to take the next step. Not sure what it is either. Some background is here. http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...mp;#entry572531 He doesn't have any obvious symptoms, unlike myself-I'm CF. He does have ADHD and significant allergic load and I'm trying to figure out what the next thing that will help him is. What to tackle next since gluten is out of the way? His Enterolab testing results for casein were 13 units with the normal range <10 units. They recommend anything above 10 be removed from the diet but I guess I'm wondering still what this test result means. How much is he reacting? Am I just being dense? I just feel that we have enough challenges already and don't want to eliminate stuff unnecessarily, dietary changes can be wearing. But, with my experience, I know it can make all the difference in the world and is worth it if needed. I also have hesitated to eliminate it because as I try to keep a lid on the carbs, I find myself relying more on cheese sticks for snack and yogurt for breakfast for example, to fill him up and replace carbs. I can live on nuts, meat and veg. but it is a challenge to keep a growing boy fed! I give him 2 dinners regularly. He's a bottomless pit with a hollow leg and you'd never know he eats heartily by looking at him! I think Paleo would be really good for him but I just somehow can't work it out in reality. My guess is that taking him CF at least would cut down on his nasal stuffiness like it did for me. Recently, I didn't commit to CF(for him) but just tried to see how many days I could last without giving in to dairy, out of convenience, and I lasted 2-3 days and then caved. I've also considered doing the 4 day rotation, which has some merits but is a pain to keep track of unless I just designate weekdays CF and weekend free days or something like that. I don't have trouble managing these things with me but find it so hard with him. Other issues are vise versa. Sigh...

Bad Diarrhea

My major symptoms before going gluten free were D and major bloating. I went gluten-free in the spring for 3 weeks and it was good. I went back on for 3 months for testing and I was so sick w/D 10-15 x a day. All tests came back negative. I went gluten-free anyway and felt pretty good for 2 1/2 months. I ate gluten-free oats 10 days ago and the diarrhea won't stop. It's been 7 times already today ( and I even finally took an immodium today). I usually don't feel bad at all, just have the watery D. Today I've actually felt icky too. What comes out is pale, watery w/my undigested food (sorry for the gross details).

I'm sure the next step everyone will tell me is to try eliminating dairy. I don't eat a lot of dairy anyway - cheese about 1 x a week on gluten-free pizza and a few small pieces of chocolate a day...and occasional yogurt. Can that little amount of dairy produce this awful D? Can you be as sensitive to little amts of dairy as you can be gluten? Most gluten-free stuff I eat is casein free as well.

I have racked my brain to figure out if I'm still glutening myself (because this is the same way I was during my testing time when I was back on gluten). I've checked vitamins, CC, foods, beauty products...the only thing I could possibly be taking is that darn Synthroid that they can't guarantee is gluten-free anymore.

A Puzzlement

Twice in the last 4-6 weeks I have experienced the following:

Felt fine during the day, eating gluten free of course, not eating out, no cc possibilities. Ate a normal evening meal (we do normally eat quite late), gone to bed and awoken with the most horrible bloating and gassy pain under the breastbone, and very rapid and pounding heartbeat (missing some beats too). The first time I got up and went to the toilet and promptly fainted whilst on the toilet. Thereafter I belched and burped for three hours trying to get rid of all this gas (Gas-Ex didn't faze it). I had to sit up because I could not breathe if I lay down and my head hurt because of the pounding pulse. Normal bowel movements, no C or D, just a drastic irritation, it seems, of the stomach lining. There did not appear to be anything sitting there fermenting. The second time it happened, a couple of days ago, I knew better than to get out of bed; dispatched my husband down to the kitchen for some yogurt to coat my stomach lining, and it only took half an hour to get rid of the gas and get back to sleep. That night for dinner I had eaten fish (cod), rice, cauliflower with cheese sauce (made with almond milk and rice flour). Can't remember what I ate for dinner the other time but something equally innocuous. I blamed the first episode on some buckwheat bread I had eaten in the morning that had some corn in it; the second time there is nothing I can think of to blame, except that I believe in both instances I had not had yogurt for breakfast that morning which is unusual for me. Do you think it could be that simple?? My stomach must still be in bad shape if normal food creates such chaos down there What do you think?
