I may be old school, but I don't seem to have any trouble with scrolling opening ads. They are there, but I just make sure the pointer is on the forum content instead of the ads before hitting page up/down or rolling the wheel on my mouse. As Scott said, this is a free site because of the ads. Advertisers pay to keep it running for all of us at no charge.

I wanted to make you all aware that my daughter has celiac disease and must be strictly gluten free. This involves avoided direct gluten (anything containing wheat, barley, or rye) and any items that may be cross-contaminated (from cutting boards, peanut butter containers, etc). Celiac does not cause a medical emergency, but a crumb from a cracker can cause significant damage. To avoid any risk or confusion, if you can let me know what snacks will be served then I can send her with something similar. Please let me know if you have any questions! Hello, I'm a pretty tough lady, I'm a nurse so I ignore a lot of symptoms and keep going about my day. I have been having nausea and a weird feeling in my mouth every time I eat for at least 6 months. I noticed my lips feeling almost numb after eating too. Sometimes my inner ears itch after I eat, I never put this all together. I have a hiatal hernia, I blamed my symptoms on that, it usually causes heartburn, I just figured it was my body being weird. A couple months ago I was turned away from donating blood because my hemoglobin was too low, it was 9.4 and the blood bank nurse suggested I go to my doctor because that was really low and I looked pale. I'd been having heart palpitations as well, so I decided to go see my doctor. I went and after blood work I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. I started eating more iron rich foods, taking a supplement, etc. I'd been tired too, I blamed the anemia. I was really sick at work the other day after eating breakfast, my coworker said, I bet you are lactose or gluten intolerant. I did nothing with this until today, I figured it was just her grasping at straws. I looked up celiac disease and saw some of the common symptoms and conditions that could be related and my jaw dropped. At the top of the list was autoimmune hepatitis, I was diagnosed with that 15 years ago. I have so many of the symptoms, I thought my numb tingling hands were from typing on my phone, I thought the joint pain was my autoimmune hepatitis flaring up. I thought the gross bowel movements and flatulence were from the fruits, vegetables, whole grains I've switched to. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow to be seen so we can start the process of being tested. I can't imagine the joy at feeling normal again. I'm actually gaining weight, always hungry, but too tired to exercise. I also eat sometimes in the hope of sopping up the nausea, thinking there is acid in my stomach. Even if my tests come back negative, I'm going to try to go gluten free to see if it helps. Sorry for the rambling, I'm just excited at the potential for answers.
Hi Cycling lady, I really do not remember anymore. I was so hungry at that time that I just concentrated on it being gluten-free free, dairy and soy free but I did not think about containing oats. However, I do not think it did. I think it was just dried fruit (dates) with coco and coconut. I meant to take a photo of a wrapper but forgot. I also try to stay away from oats. I enjoy lettuce wraps as well. I usually eat them with chicken and veggies. Hi Nvsmom, you are right about myfitnesspal. I used to use it religiously when I was healthy (at least believed I was, before my diagnosis) and exercising every day to make sure to track my food and water intake. I need to start using it again and it can also serve as my food journal. Thanks for reminding me about it.
Hi Christiana, After 3 years strict gluten-free last December I began using cert. gluten-free oat flour in a bread recipe. We had not been fond of the gluten-free breads our local stores sold so we had not eaten that very often for the 3 years. The bread I made was delicious & after pretty much not having any bread for 3 years we went nuts eating bread. We had sammiches often, toast with breakfast, garlic toast, cheese toast, bread & butter, we had bread every time we could work it in. It was so nice to be able to just have a sammich for lunch & not have to cook! When I began to make this gluten-free bread with the oat flour; slowly all my celiac symptoms began to return, 1 by 1. However, I did not associate it with the oat flour. I was going crazy nuts trying to figure out where the gluten was coming from. I must back up a bit & explain that I have dh (celiac rash) & didn't really have the "D" - once every 4 - 6 weeks maybe. So it's not like I have this immediate reaction & run to the bathroom like most people do. It began with me getting dizzy. The dizzy comes & goes in waves getting stronger with continued exposure. Then the pounding heart beat that is like drums in my ears, then 1 by 1 symptoms returned. Mild migraines began, red rimmed eyes, twitching nerves in my eyelid, brain fog, burping & then elevated to belching, bloat, then severe bloat, hands & feet getting that needles feeling, gasssssssssssss, blood pressure began rising, that super weird buzzing feeling inside my body - it keeps you awake - sort of like restless leg syndrome but it involves the entire body - sort of like being on speed, mucus in eyes, blepharitis, then the bone & muscle & nerve pain set in & began to make itself known and lastly was the "D" with those horrid, horrid screaming cramps AND the rash flared up. I had always thought the rash would be my first sign of a glutening. I was wrong. We have a totally gluten-free household, never eat out, & are religious about being careful with making sure everything is gluten-free. It took time for all the symptoms to build up but I was aware & was looking for the source of gluten. I could not figure out where it was coming from. I even tried to convince myself it was all in my head - psychosomatic. But it wasn't. Then it dawned on me that it had to be the oats. Quit the bread making, threw out the oat flour, cleaned everything & began anew minus oats. I went back to normal -- all symptoms gone. Then our store began carrying Udi's gluten-free bread. We tried it & we loved it!!!!! We were eating an average of 3 to 4 loaves per week & also having Glutino cookies. A few weeks in & here we go again -- symptoms returning again . Now why? Where is the gluten coming from???? Not eating anything with oats so what is it?????? Then a lightbulb went off in my head. Udi's is made in a gluten-free facility where they also make things containing gluten-free oats. Since it's a gluten-free facility & they use gluten-free oats do they worry about the oats cc'ing the rest of the products???? I called them. The lady I spoke with said they don't clean the lines because everything in the facility is gluten-free including the oats. She told me there is certainly cc with the oats going on. So not only the Udi's bread is cc'd with gluten-free oats but also Glutino products since they are made in the same facility. Just my experience, your mileage may vary.
