      Celiac Emotional Healing Support Group
      Again you are invited to join Johnny Patout, LCSW for Baton Rouge's first emotional healing support group meeting to assist those living with celiac disease manage the emotional challenges so many of us face. Most often the emotional disturbances include depression, disinterest in normal activities, insomnia, grief, mood changes, anxiety, inability to concentrate, extreme concern about managing a gluten-free lifestyle and other emotional and behavioral challenges.
      The professionals at Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center created the emotional healing support group to give us a safe place to begin to process our emotions and support each other as we heal emotionally while managing celiac disease and the resulting autoimmune disorders.
      The emotional healing support group meets every Thursday, 6:00-7:00pm, at the Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center of Baton Rouge. Jamestown Avenue Counseling Center is located at 4637 Jamestown Avenue, Baton Rouge, Suite B-1. Suite B-1 is upstairs.

      Wildfire Restaurants proudly presents its 7th Annual Gluten-Free Dinners, featuring a custom five course gluten-free menu with optional wine pairings. Executive Chefs will prepare and present Wild Mushroom Macaroni & Cheese Bites to start, homemade asiago popovers, Pesto Crusted Filet Mignon served with spinach ricotta gnochhi, and much more. Wildfire's Divisional Trainer & Gluten-free Resident Expert, Ruth Hayden, will be on hand to share her insight into Wildfire's extensive gluten-free menu and training. The dinners will be held at Wildfire Oak Brook on Monday, November 7th and at Wildfire Lincolnshire on Friday, November 11th. The events begin at 6:30 p.m. with passed appetizers, followed by the seated dinner at 7:00 p.m. and are priced at $65.00 per person without wine pairings and $85.00 per person with wine pairings, plus tax (gratuity not included). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center.       I recall back when I was in denial of having celiacs years ago. I was at my grandmas and she had a old container of flour. I tried a bit of it on a whim, had a earthly flavor tad deep and off and I assumed it was old flour from god knows when. But I did not have a reaction to it, this made me think perhaps it was not gluten but the other crap they put in flours now day. But I kept having gluten reactions and eventually gave up and took about a year before I learned what that stuff was. I was later experimenting with different gluten-free flours and came across sorghum tasted exactly like the stuff my grandma had in that container. I still to this day do not know why she had that flour....I assumed either some old health fad, or she got it for a porridge.

      I have broken down and gotten a ice cream machine in the past 4 months and a bunch of lor ann oils ice cream flavorings. I found making a protein pudding mix flavoring it and loading it in for a after dinner bowl to make me pure pleasure and not care about breads/carbs.     I normally start with a almond milk base, add a fat like almond butter, coconut flour, a sweetener like swerve or xylitol, and a heating it up and mixing in a thickening agent like fruit pectin, knoxx gelatin, chia seeds, or a mix of.  This is my sweet pudding base and I make this by 3L batches with a extract boiled in for a base flavor. Then in the evening i measure out some mix in a scoop of protein powder and 2 tsp of a flavoring or a combination. Tonight had 2 cups with a eggnog flavor syrup, 1 1/2 scoops of vanilla protein powder and a heaping tbsp of cinnamon topped with homemade candied maple almonds, great after a stressful day. Had this after a dinner of sauteed onions, chopped cauliflower, and chopped romaine lettuce topped with homemade pasta sauce and nutritional yeast. Might be odd by who says a gluten-free diet cant be enjoyable.

      Starting a blog on this website seemed like a pretty good idea moments ago, but now that I'm posting my first entry, I'm not really sure what to say :-)

      An intro perhaps?
      Hi, I'm Dani. I am an illustrator, and I seem to like the idea of calling myself an artist as well!

      I am a self diagnosed celiac (or at least I think I am). My general health has improved ever since I started the diet, specifically since my periods (which were absent prior to the diet) are regular now!

      The hardest part of being celiac is that I have been isolated from others, which has resulted in a boring and lonely lifestyle. I believe, however, that I started caring less about that when I realized I could be happy without being surrounded by people, or at least that's what the theory was. Whether it has been verified is a completely different story. The most important thing to me is not to get sick again and not to jump ship no matter what others think or say. This resulted with having less people who enjoy my company, but I'm not going to let that affect my judgement.

      I guess that's enough blogging for one day.
