Full Version: Why Is There Often Weight Gain After gluten-free Diet?

On one hand, if someone was really underweight due to malabsorption pre-dx, then weight gain after gluten-free diet would make sense. But it seems you'd be less starving and tend to eat less once you're free of gluten and begin absorbing nutrients...? Does it feel like you're starving for some time after going gluten-free, hence overeating? (I've been tested and am awaiting results.)
TIA.

Actually, it seems like it goes either way. Loads of people lose weight (like me) and others gain it right away. It is probably just our bodies having reactions to not being ill anymore. Now I have problems keeping the weight off!

I had lost a lot of weight due to malnutrition/malabsorption. At the bottom of the curve, I weighed 130 pounds, down from about 190. My ribs were visible. As my villi began to heal, I absorbed nutrients and began to gain weight rapidly. I am currently close to my "ideal" weight of 185.
