  6. Now something good - a reminder - Dr. Peter Green will be our guest speaker next week, Tuesday, October 2nd. The talk will be in the auditorium (front of the building) and we will have four vendors in the cafeteria for afterwards. There will also be samples from an additional four vendors. Obviously, we will need some help with this month's meeting. We will need people to collect the admission fee, sell Dr. Green's book, help set up and clean up in the cafeteria. If you can help out, please be at Higbie Lane as early as possible. We have Dr.Green scheduled for 7:30 pm and would like to start right on time. His talk will run about an hour and then everyone can go to the cafeteria for coffee and check out the vendors/samples. The price is $5.00 per person. Please make every effort to attend - this is a fund raiser - all proceeds will be given to the Celiac Disease Center and our group will match all admission fees and donations. See you next week. 7. [When: Sunday, October 14, 2007, 9:00 AM 20071014T130000Z Where: Rye High School 1 Parsons Street Rye , NY 10580 Info/Map Description: Colin Leslie is an extraordinary 15-year-old that was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2005. He is extremely active in his campaign for Celiac Diease awareness in his community and is organizing his second Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease. I am very impressed by Colin and his community service. This is no easy event for a support group of adults to pull off, let alone a high school student. The first Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease in 2006 raised over $62,000 for the Celiac Disease Center and had 422 people in attendance. I would love for our NYC Celiac Disease Meetup group to help make this year's walk even bigger and better. Transportation to Rye will not be provided by the group but you can take Metro North from Grand Central to Rye, NY. Depending on participation from the group, carpools may be arranged. You must register for this event at Colin's website. Everything you need to know about the 2007 Colin Leslie Walk for Celiac Disease can be found at the website: http://www.colinlesli... 8. suffolk county nyOur next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11th at 7:30 pm (delayed one week because of Labor Day). This meeting will be dedicated to answering as many questions as we can about Celiac Disease. So, if you are newly diagnosed or are a "seasoned" Celiac, bring your questions, problems, comments, gripes and anything else you can think of and we'll try to help. We'll talk about foods, restaurants, doctors, online vendors and whatever else comes up. We will also be giving you an update on what's going on with the group and what's in store for future meetings. We will have two guest vendors: Keith Kohler from Core Naturals Nutritious Creations - a gluten-free cookie company located right in Bay Shore It will be a very informative meeting and we look forward to seeing everyone there.
  9. Everyone, If you were at the last meeting, you already know about the Balloon Festival. If not, let me recap. The Suffolk County Celiac group will have their own booth at the Festival. It's being held at Calabro Airport on LI, on August 10, 11th and 12th. We will be distributing material on Celiac Disease and also have some gluten-free foods for samples. In addition, we have an opportunity to make some money at this event by volunteering at one of the concession stands. Here's a brief explanation on how it works: To participate in the Balloon Festival, all we need are bodies to prepare and serve. They will provide tents, equipment, food supplies and management. They will resupply the booth during the day. Products are simple stadium style that require minimum preparation so no experience is necessary. Locations require 10 or 12 people per day DURING PEAK TIMES. Our organization will receive 10% of the GROSS SALES from each location we staff which should average $2,000. Parking, admission and meals are free plus you will be able to enjoy the whole event. The hours of operation are: Friday, August 10 - 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm Saturday, August 11 - 10:00 am to 11:00 pm Sunday, August 12 - 10:00 am to 8:00 pm The Peak Times are: (this is when we need 10 to 12 people at the concession stand) Friday, August 10 - 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm Saturday, August 11 - 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm Sunday, August 12 - 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm This will be a great opportunity for us to make some money and have some fun. Please let me know if you can and will participate and the days/times that you are available. Any questions, call me at 631-957-2885 or Les Doti at 631-724-6651.
