Vacationing In Canada This Summer :)
      Hi everyone,
My 9 yr old has celiac disease, and we are thinking of going to Montreal, Quebec City, and Mont Tremblant this summer. Can anyone give me a list of
restaurants for gluten-free in these cities, or provide the name of great gluten-free stores to purchase items?

      Thank you sooo much.

Thank you all for your responses. I think this will really work out nicely.
DD also mentioned that cupcake maker. Will take a closer look at that.

      THanks again.

So, My Daughter Wants An Easy Bake Over For Christmas...
Yup. She wants one. I contacted the manufacturer about gluten free products in their oven, and got this from them today--

      From Hasbro:

Thank you for waiting for my response.

You can use store mixes as well as gluten free mixes. You cannot use a mix that needs eggs or oil because the Easy Bake Oven will not cook it for long enough. If you are using the add water only mix you should use:

1/4 cup of the powder mix
      2 tsp water
      15 minutes preheat
      Bake for 6-7 minutes

      I hope this helps.

      Thank you.

Now, does anyone know of a mix that does not take eggs OR oil? Cherrybrook mixes do not required eggs, but they do require oil. I imagine
that goes the same for butter too.

Red Lobster Cheese Bisquits -- Yum!
      Hi everyone,

I stumbled upon this the other day, and thought it might be fun to substitute Pamela's Quick Mix in this recipe
for the Bisquick. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.

      Red Lobster Cheese Biscuits
1 1/4 lbs. Bisquik (Substitute Pamela's Quick Mix)
3 Oz. freshly shredded cheddar cheese
      11 Oz. cold water
      Garlic Spread:
      1/2 cup melted butter
      1 teas. garlic powder
      1/4 teas. salt
      1/8 teas. onion powder
      1/8 teas. dried parsley
To cold water, add Bisquik and cheese, blending in a mixing bowl.
      Mix until dough is firm.
Using a small scoop, place the dough on a baking pan lined with
baking paper. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until
golden brown. While biscuits bake, combine spread ingredients.

Brush baked biscuits with the garlic topping.

If someone tries them, let us know how they are. I am swamped until Turkey Day.

I use Bragg Liquid Aminos. Tastes/smells just like soy sauce when cooking.
I can find it at our local health food store, but here is their web site

Laura, what's a Coug doing in NJ, you ask? Well, I spend 1/2 my life in WA (it will always be home)
1/2 in Southern Cal (surrounded by thee o so humble Trojans, ugh!) and now
Jersey. Hubs got an offer here he couldn't refuse, heh heh. Actually I love it here.
We live in northern NJ. There is a road near our house that always reminds me of
Okanogan *sighI* And only 45 minutes from NYC.

It's okay if you're a Husky. I never kick a dawg when he's down (sorry, couldn't help myself, *giggle*)
But a least you have a Coug in the family.

That's right, Jestgar. Just when you least expect it, you'll find us.

      GO COUGS, indeed!

You know, if this research pans out, I can see a new Coug commercial before the games where someone inquires about a great gluten free grain
that has been developed -- someone then mentions that is was developed at Washington State University..... then the inquirer says,
      Ah, GO COUGS!"

(I apologize, those of you who aren't from WAZZU probably won't get it... it's a Coug thing

BTW, celiac-mommy, I'm originally from Richland, now in NJ. Where are you from?

      Oprah And Oatmeal
On Oprah this week, there was an vegan/author (promoting book, of course) on the show that was hyping a 21 day cleanse. One of the things to eliminate in the cleanse is gluten. My ears perked of course. It was implied that oatmeal was gluten-free. Now I always thought that oatmeal was an "on the fence" type of gluten-free food. Some experts say that it is gluten-free, but the real gurus of celiac disease say no.

So, has anything changed, or is oatmeal still a no-no?

Someone wrote that there was no TJs in PHilly. And I think another person responded, but here is a PA list:;om=1&z=7

Also, the Florham Park NJ TJs is awesome. TJ brand soups are wonderful and gluten free. There are so gluten-free taquitos at this TJ, and a wonderful Cheesecake like frozen
dessert. Just ask them to print out a sheet of gluten-free products for there store. Ours has about 6-7 pages of products.

    15. jerseygrl added a post in a topic Pamela's Baking Mix For Cookies

Just a quick note -- Pamela's makes separate Choc Cookie Mix in case you want to try that.
      The cookies are VERY tasty.

Also, I learned this tip in making Choc Chip cookies "from scratch" and it works
beautifully every time -- Use the recipe on the back of a Nestle choc chip bag,
but substitute Garbanzo Bean flour (without Fava) instead of wheat flour.
And I use 1/2 butter, 1/2 shortening for a crisp crunch cookie.

Warning though....DO NOT eat the dough when using the Garbanzo Bean
flour. Somehow however, the cookies taste just like regular Nestle
      Toll House Cookies.

      Hope this helps.
