Bayleigh is allergic/intolerant to soy. Her allergist gave me cards from FAAN that i keep in my purse to let me know which ingredients contain her allergens. The soy one says that studies have shown that most people allergic to soy can safely consume soy oil and soy lecithin. We had already been COMPLETELY soy free for a month when i reintro'd soy oil and soy lecithin. No reactions. HTH!

There is a radio station in Dallas (i don't know if it's everywhere), and it has no DJ's it's all computerized and it plays random songs, but it's just about commercial free, and mostly just plays music. They do say little things in between songs sometimes. the other day i was listening and they said "Okay, so we aren't commercial free, but hey... we are gluten-free" I guess since there are no Dj's and it's just computers it is true lol. I was pretty happy to hear it mentioned like that Maybe people will start understanding what gluten is soon
i agree to remove dairy immediately and possibly soy. I know asthma can run with celiac, are ya'll dealing with that as well? My daughter has celiac, asthma and multiple food allergies, and at our last check-up with the allergist a little survey thingy i filled out before her appt. asked if she had a problem with ear infections. She actually has had two this past fall, but i really associated them more with allergies, that turn into colds, that turn into upper respiratory infections or ear infections. I dunno maybe it does have something to do with celiac. I know sometimes Bayleigh is resistant to drugs. She got pink eye from pre-school (i hate how my kid gets sick all the time now that she's in pre-school) and she would not respond to the drops they gave her at first. She had it three times, and the fourth time (within a month) her Dr. wrote her an RX for stronger drops, and it finally went away. Bayleigh is always sick when her asthma is not in control though, so i thought that could possibly be ya'lls problem!? Good luck, hope ya'll figure this out, and WELCOME!!!
I actually just saw that book at the book store the other day, i was wondering if it was any good... like you, i read everything i can get my hands on about celiac If your kiddo has something you might as well know everything about it... i dont understand people that dont read. Thats why i like these boards. You can assume that if people take the time to get on here, that they are eduacated, or atleast they're trying. I know 2 celiacs in real life, and both of them are ignorant about celiac.
I would remove dairy. Lactose is digested at the tips of the villi. If those villi arent there you're lactose intolerant. Being on dairy in someone that is first diagnosed with celiac can prevent the villi from healing. I would remove dairy immediately. Bayleigh's Dr tells all patients he diagnoses w/celiac to go casein free immediately. I kept Bayleigh on dairy for 2 months after going gluten free. She improved immediately, and after two months her reactions started all over again. Try it for a week and see what happens. You'll see instant results. We did.
Thanks for your response... it's nice to know this isnt too uncommon. I always sort of wonder if something else is going on as well, since i never hear other people say their kids throw up. Watch out for McDonalds, their french fries do have wheat as an ingredient (and also milk and beef)!!
Yes, that's pretty much what i keep thinking, that theres something about when she lays down she's not moving around, getting any gas out, and she just wakes up with this HUGE gas-filled belly, and throws up. It's really it weird, especially when i read about other peoples reactions on here.

My daughter has celiac... positive blood work, biospy confirmed, but she does NOT have the "typical celiac reaction". When she gets gluten, or milk or soy it always seems like her reaction comes at 9 or 10 at night, a few hours after she goes to bed. Usually i put her in bed, she falls asleep (we still have a video monitor in there, because shes across the house) and then a few hours later she sits up in bed and starts yelling "MOMMA, i need puke!!!" Last time, it was due to a soy intolerance (soy is fairly new for us) and my husband went in and got her, and when she came in to our room her belly was the size of a basketball (literally, i wish i would have taken a picture for the other thread that needed one) and she threw up twice and went back to bed. Anyone else have a similar experience? I always have a hard time figuring it out, because her reaction could be 3 hours later or 12 hours later. Anyone else have vomiting for their main celiac reaction rather than diahhrea? I never really see anyone mention it, although i read it is a less common reaction. Anyone?
It's Delimex chicken taquitos that are gluten free... for some reason not all of them are safe, they told me over the phone that the chicken ones were safe but not with cheese. Honestly i would try to stay away from gluten-free baked goods during your trial. Most things just dont taste great compared to gluten, ive heard so many people say not to try gluten-free bread for a year after you stop eating gluten. By that time it will taste good. Try to stick to naturally gluten free things... pot roast carrots and potatoes, tacos, grilled chicken and veggies... we eat alot of just meat and veggies (and deviled eggs yumm!), i also make lasagna with tinkyada lasagna noodles and it tastes just as good as normal! As far as snack foods go, popcorn, fritos, chips and queso, applesauce, fresh fruit, veggies with ranch. Bell and Evan's gluten free chicken nuggets are really good. Ore-ida french fries are safe.
These cheesecake supcakes are good, they just dont have any kind of crust, just filling, they are awesome!
1 1/2 c. sugar
24 oz. light cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. raspberries or choc chips or blueberries or other yummy
8 oz. light cream cheese
1/4 c. sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (176 degrees Celsius).
In a large bowl, use a hand mixer to blend the sugar, cream cheese, and vanilla.
Add eggs to cream cheese mixture one at a time and blend after adding each egg.
Line 24-cupcake pan with cupcake liners - foil works best. Fill cupcake liners 3/4 of the way full
with cream cheese batter.
Divide raspberries or chips or whatever evenly between the 24 cupcakes and sprinkle on top of each cupcake
Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees (176 degrees Celsius).
Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes. A well will form in the middle of
Turn the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (232 degrees Celsius).
In a small bowl, blend together topping ingredients. Using a teaspoon, drop topping
into the center of each cupcake.
Bake for 5 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit (232 degrees Celsius).
Remove from oven and cool. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Keep refrigerated.
This works plain as well.. no need for fruit or chocolate, they're simply extra luxuries. : )
I hope you can get her to cooperate away from home! Like the previous post said about her daughter, i always worry about what Bayleigh will eat away from home when she gets older, and even when i think about getting my husband to try a gluten-free trial, i always think he would say yes to get me to shut up and then go to mcdonalds for lunch. (which reminds me mcdonalds french fries are not safe) Hope you get an answer soon!

Oh I am so sorry. That's what i had to do with Bayleigh, and it sucked, but you'll start adding things back in pretty quickly, and you'll be able to figure it out! Bayleigh was also allergic to pork, chicken, rice, potato, apple. lemon and banana, so we had to do alot of taking out and putting other things in to figure it out.
I recently had to start giving my almost 12 month old formula (i stopped making milk, im pregnant with number three), and he only reacted to green beans through my breastmilk, but he is reacting to all formula. He has terrible exzema, diaper rash, hives, vomiting, etc. from hypoallergenic formula, and it costs a ton! Stick with breastfeeding as long as possible. You can't eliminate even one ingredient from hypoallergenic formula
I would be VERY careful! Like you said, sometimes with puberty... so around 13 or so, symptoms will subside, but there can still be intestinal damage. If you arent sure he doesnt have Celiac Disease I wouldn't be doing any experiments on him. I know you can have milk and gluten intolerance, but milk intolerance is very common in newly diagnosed people with celiac. It sounds like celiac. If you want him to eat gluten i would test him after 6 months and see what you're dealing with.
So the top 8 allergens are milk, soy, and egg (as you said), wheat, peanut, treenut, fish and shellfish. As i understand it corn is super common and just barely missed making the top eight. I would start with milk, i dont know how old your daughter is, but milk is the number one food allergy in kids under 1, and it is the most common for babies to react to through breastmilk. 50% of kids with a milk allergy are also allergic to soy, so those two might run together. I would go ahead and cut out peanuts, treenuts, fish and shellfish, because they are the easiest to avoid, and known for the worst reactions. If you have a kiddo that is allergic to something than you dont want your kids exposed to those 4 allergens until they are atleast 3 years old (im choosing to wait until 5 with my kids) Your on the right track! if you cant figure it out you might have to work backwards on this, and cut back to a few basic foods, rice, chicken, carrots, potatoes and then slowly add things back in. You could be dealing with multiple food allergies. My kiddo was allergic to 13 foods when she was younger, so eliminating one at a time wouldnt have worked for us. Have ya'll removed dairy... does anyone know if that will affect your Ttg? I know my daughter has the same "celiac symptoms" with dairy and soy as she does gluten, i would think it would affect her numbers. Are you sure she isn't cheating at school or friends houses? I hate to even say that, but it would be so hard to not cheat when you are diagnosed with celiac at the age of 13. You already know how good gluten is, and food is a social thing at that age. I cant imagine a kid that age speaking up for herself in front of a group of friends and saying she couldnt eat at a specific place. I dont want to say that your daughter is cheating though... im not accusing, only giving hopefully a helpful suggestion I was going to mention replacing all the kitchenware etc, but the previous post beat me to it. I hope ya'll figure it out soon!
