  1. hi. I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me in the past. I need your help once more! Okay, so when I was first diagnosed, I was instructed to avoid gluten. At first, I felt fine off of gluten, then I slowly began to develop even more intolerances as the months passed. Since my diagnosis a year ago, I have been found to be intolerant to almost EVERYTHING. I can no longer eat dairy, soy, corn chips, pinto beans, raisins, apricots, prunes, potatoes and tomatoes (still debating on whether or not nuts and bananas bother me too). It's like, every time I eat dairy, soy, pintos and apricots, a I get almost the same exact symptoms as if I ate some gluten, minus the joint pain and diarrhea. I get a horrible rash that lasts for days at a time every time I eat these foods... Now here's what I CAN eat: Eggs, some corn, kidney beans and lentils, all meats, rice, some peppers, fish, most fruits, most veggies, (nuts?) and candy...Is it normal to have this many intolerances to food when you have Celiac disease? I'm 21 years old and im about to lose my head because I don't know what to eat anymore.
  2. I'm pretty sure it was the barilla sauce. But anyway, I feel fine now. I only had D once since eating it.
  3. Yea, it might not have been gluten now that i think of it...I only had D once since lastnight, and I basically feel back to normal now . Might've been acid, who knows .
  4. Well, i'm also pretty sensitive to soy, but I did not read anything on the lable implying that there was soy in the product. Thanks guys, that might explain my question . hehe. No more barilla sauces for me.
  5. I made some pasta tonight, and normally, would use del monte or hunt's. I decided to try out Barilla pasta sauce because it did not list anything I was allergic to. I am allergic to soy, and both Ragu and classico have soy in them. So I ate my pasta with the barilla sauce, 2 hours later, my body had started to become shakey and my stomach hurt. Then I had some slight D. My question is, has anyone else had a problem with barilla sauces? Thanks.
  6. Hi everyone. I just want to say thanks for helping me whenever I needed it. I would be lost without this site. So thanks, for helping me achieve better health. My twin brother (I am female, he is male) has been suffering from stomach problems for years and years, since he turned 15. He was diagnosed with crohn's disease at age 15, and he is 21 right now, and he looks exactly the same as he did back then. He is 6'4 and just a little over 100lbs, he cannot grow facial hair for some odd reason, he has diarrhea multiple times everyday, he also says he has bloody stools, he just feels really crappy. He says he has this low feeling, idk if he means nausea or not. He is as thin as a pole. Minus the bloody stools, he has been having the same symptoms as I had before going gluten free, for past few months. I tried to tell him that maybe he has celiac disease as well, but he pushes me away and denies the possibilities. He still lives with my mom and she keeps saying that it's probably just attributed to crohn's disease. Help! How do I convince him that he may be suffering needlessly, and that a simple change in diet could make a world of a difference? I just don't want him to suffer anymore.
  7. I know exactly how you feel. I lived with a mom that was like yours, and sometimes worst. It took me an entire year to feel 100% better, I only started feeling better when I left. My mother used to tempt me with all kinds of gluteny foods as well. And sometimes, she would indeed put gluten in my food without me knowing...And when i'd get sick, she would just tell me it was all in my head... Thankfully, I'm living with a man who understands fully how much pain I go through from the tiniest amount of gluten I eat. He knows all about the gluten free diet, since he's been doing it ever since he got diabetes 2. You know, I don't understand how someone could be so cruel. Just leave us alone and let us do our thing, you know? We're here for you, many of us know exactly how you feel. If you can't convince your mom by getting her to talk to your doctor, i'd say ignore her for a while, until she finally understands how serious Celiac disease is.
  8. Ok...I was hoping to get a better answer but that will do...I can't really afford to buy vitamins until like a week from now, and since getting off of centrum a week ago, I feel a little 'down'. I eat alot of fruit and veggies and stuff to get the vitamins I don't get from the Nature Made pill I take. It only gives calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin D. I need all that Thiamine and riboflavin and iron and stuff like that lol.
  9. I just recently got off Centrum vitamins because I don't know if it has gluten in them or not. I never got a reaction to Centrum. I'm taking Nature Made calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin D pill, but I would like to take a multivitamin with these. I like Centrum and I wanna know for sure if it is safe for us to use. Their site says there is no gluten, but I read topics on this site stating otherwise?...So, does anybody REALLY know? Thanks.
  10. I don't have any younger siblings. I have older siblings who are all becoming just as careless as my mom when it comes to my health issues. It's really making me angry. I sometimes wonder if maybe this is being done on purpose so I can stay at home and be reliant on her. Well so far, it's working. No matter how much I talk to anyone in this house about it, it doesn't change anything. I wish I had been born in another family sometimes lol.
  11. Thanks for all the responses guys. I was really busy for the past few weeks, trying to get all of my things packed etc. The bad news is I may have to stay here a little longer than i'd like to because of some personal issues, which is really upsetting. My mom has been really immature about my situation these days and it's just driving me nuts. She keeps asking me if I want to eat foods that she prepared (like oatmeal cookies, pizza, and everything with gluten in it) knowing that I will have a really bad reaction to them. She came in and started making cookies with flour while I was trying to make my dinner lastnight, she didn't care if I got contaminated or not. I am not a happy camper.
  12. The reason I havent moved out yet is because my mom goes crazy every time I bring it up...I try to keep her in the best mood possible, and I know that the day that I do walk out of here, it's gonna be scary...I've put it off for 2 months because i'm not looking forward to all the drama (And I mean, its gonna be bad...Real bad) I have an older sister who is not sick, my mom said she isnt sick because she lived 'the right way' lol My brother has to deal with my mom every day too. We both worked at the same job for 2 years before we came down sick. Well, my brother was sick with chron's for 5 years, but he is sick even after he takes meds. I had to quit my job last year cuz of my symptoms. I feel pretty stable and well enough to work again, and I'm currently looking for a job, which is very hard in these parts I still cant get rid of a couple symptoms, mostly because i've been stressed out every day for the past year. I hang out at my boyfriend's house every day, but my mom doesn't like me going over there because she thinks we're doing naughty things Which we most definitely are not
  13. Yea, I think my mom might be suffering from undiagnosed Celiac disease. She has rashes all over her body, she has loose stools, and a ton of neuro problems to list a few. I want to help her and it seems pretty much impossible at this point. She has deliberately contaminated my food, grabbed food from my plate without asking and without washing her hands, and she just completely bashes me every chance she can get. Yea, I think the word is completely unacceptable and I do not use it in my daily speech. I am simply quoting the word that my mom used against me on more than one occasion My best friend of 13 years is mentally challenged, and she is the smartest person I have ever met to be honest. Best friend a girl could ever have

  15. My mom thinks that me and my male twin ( he was stricken with chron's and I believe he may have celiac disease too) are cursed by the devil, because we are the only two in our family that we know of with auto immune disease...We tried explaining to her that these things obviously run in our family (Diabetes is pretty high on my father's side of the family, I honestly think it might be linked to celiac). But no. She is sticking to the fact that "we were cursed by the devil because of our 'wrong doings'" (Wrong doings meaning, we make mistakes like forget to turn off the bathroom light and accidently fall asleep on the couch. So basically 'we are being cursed' because we're not perfect, or atleast thats how she sees it) The thing that bugs me the most though is the fact that she expects me to clean up the kitched space when I finish cooking, which I do each and every night. However, after she makes dinner, she leaves all kinds of gluteny stains and messes everywhere, my brother usually has to clean them up since my skin reacts to touching gluten. I mean, its just not fair! And its hazardous to my health! I've told her time and time again that I cannot get contaminated by crumbs and food etc, containing gluten. She thinks its all in my head and that i'm a retard Idk if it is her old age or not, but ever since I was diagnosed about a year ago, she's been picking on me alot. I mean, she's been picking fights with me for the past 6 months, EVERY NIGHT! Like saying all this crap about wishing she had perfect kids, and that maybe if me and my twin brother were better, god might not have allowed us to get sick...And to me, I get the impression that she wishes she had 'better kids'. I can't even start up a normal conversation with her without it turning in to an argument, because she'd end up calling me a name or something It's driving me nuts. I've agreed to move in with my boyfriend in 2 months, but she has been trying to keep me from going. My health is failing living here and she doesn't understand that. And since my boyfriend also follows a strict gluten free diet ( He doesnt have Celiac disease, but he has very severe type 2 diabetes. He doesn't eat processed food. He's well aware of my cross contamination issues, so whenever he's over here, he keeps an eye out on me xD) My mom does not like him because she does not want me to date guys (even though i'll be 21 in 5 weeks!) Just, how do I cope with things until I get out of here? I've tried everything I can to convince her that Celiac disease is the real deal. Has anyone else had to deal with something similar or worst than this before?
