  1. I visited Gettysburg last month. There is a great little coffee shop on middle st. by the name of Mom's Coffee Pot... near the court house. Went there twice for a gluten free breakfast sandwich that was delicious. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Dobson's guest house/inn/pub had steak and baked potato...no gluten-free menu to speak of but the atmosphere is great...period costumes for the waitresses in a historical home. Also had a great piece of fish at the hotel restuarant in the Wyndham Hotel on the edge of Gettysburg. I was told by the hostess that there wasn't much except salads for celiacs. The chef made me a broiled fish and veggies that was quite tasty. My advice would be to speak up. This is very much a tourist town and they do cater to the tourist. I didn't find any of the larger chain restaurants in the area, but there are many one of a kind businesses that can accomodate a gluten free diner with some advance notice. Hope you enjoy your trip to Gettysburg.
  2. James, I do have machine with the gluten free setting, but have also successfully made bread with a gluten-free recipe on just the white bread setting and it came out fine. You can't over work gluten free dough, supposedly. Try a search of this forum for more threads on gluten free bread baking. There is lots of great information on this site. Beverly

    The Bob's Red Mill Homemade Wonderful Gluten free bread mix works for me if I use 1/4 cup less milk than the suggested amount. I use the 1.5 pound loaf setting and the gluten free cycle if your machine has one. It also comes out fine in the regular white bread cycle, tho. The extra kneading won't hurt your finished product. i also realized that I liked this bread a whole lot more with the crusts cut off! It is my favorite for good old peanut butter and jelly. As for the high cost, Amazon has it for about $4.00/package if you buy the case with 4 packages and use the Amazon prime for free shipping.

    Glad you enjoyed Jonathan's. Looks like the key is to call ahead of time. I had a mediocre experience last year but hadn't called ahead. Even after I gave the waiter the Triumph dining card and ordered a gluten free lobster casserole with out the bread crumbs, he arrives at the table with a complimentary appetizer from the chef....served on a CRACKER, no less. ( for what it is worth, it looked beautiful!) They must have gotten some education in the past year. If you are looking for other gluten free dining experiences in Ogunquit, try the Oarweed in Perkins Cove. They definitely get it and the view is spectacular. The largest gluten free menu in Ogunquit this past summer was at Julie's Ristorante, 396 Main St. Tel. 207-641-2522. I can't even recall what I had, but it was nice to be able to get everyone's take out dinner at the same spot and it is close to everything in town. Delivery is also an option. If you are looking to surprise a loved one on your vacation, they offer gift baskets as well. I have no affiliation with any of these businesses. I just love Ogunquit, too!

  6. Jallen, Next time you are craving fried clams try Woodman's of Essex. They have a large restaurant in Essex, MA with gluten free fried seafood and recently opened a smaller place in Litchfield, NH. Highly recommended! Bev
  7. Goldbaum's gluten free sugar cones are delicious. Can't believe I stumbled upon them in the Demoulas' Market Basket for only $2.50. They taste and look just like the regular gluten sugar cones. I don't know if they are widely available. I purchased them in the North Andover, MA store today. This Market Basket seemed to have a wide variety of gluten free products compared to my usual store. The whole line of Bell and Evans chicken products were there, as well as an incredible array of Bob's Red Mill products.

  9. I Need Buiscuts! Now.

    Here is another recipe to try from Celiac Mommy's blog: RED LOBSTER STYLE CHEDDAR BISCUITS 1/2 C butter, melted 2 C Pamela's Baking Mix 2/3 C buttermilk 1/2 - 1 C sharp cheddar cheese OR grated parmesan cheese 1 clove chopped garlic or garlic powder to taste MIX ALL INGREDIENTS IN BOWL. FORM DROP BISCUITS LIKE GOLF BALLS IN YOUR HAND (OR SLIGHTLY LARGER). BAKE FOR 10-12 MINUTES AT 350 DEGREES OR UNTIL THEY START TO BROWN. these will freeze well and can be reheated one at time, if there are any left over! These remind me of Chebe bread and are great for dunking in stews and soups.

  12. Matt, Do you like to cook? I forgot to mention I went crazy last year looking for cones. I think another poster on this forum mentioned making your own cones with a Pizzelle maker. I can send you the recipe if you like. I found the pizzelle maker on line at Amazon. It takes some practice but worked out well and it only takes a few ingredients. Bev
  13. Lisa, Anello's is a celiac's dream! Everything is safe to eat. We enjoyed the sandwiches on asiago rolls and the desserts...too numerous to mention. You owe it to yourself to stop in when you are feeling better. Most ice creams are safe (with the exception of things like cookie dough)...I stick with the brands that have the fewest ingredients...Breyers for example. There are many safe ice creams out there, but I always read the label. Bev
