  1. Hi this forum has always been a tremendous source of info and support. We have a come long way from diagnosis to adopting a 100% gluten-free lifestyle. It would have been impossible to come this far without CELIAC.COM.Thank you to all the members I have moved back to my home country recently. The awareness for celiac is very low here.So I thought of starting a topic here at CELIAC.COM Its wonderful news for all celiacs in karachi in paticular that stores like Imtiaz are now stocking mainstream gluten-free Cereals like CHEX,Post PEBBLES.My kids love the flavours and enjoy them tremendously.

  5. The Indian Food Thread

i am delighted..when we started our gluten-free diet...this forum was a lifesaver and now with this thread..things can only get better.. i am an average cook and my kids love sweet indian desserts...their fav is Ras Malai..its milk based and is ready in a jiffy a litre of fresh milk + half cup sugar + 2 cardamom pods opened and powdered + pinch of saffron, leave this in heavy based pan on a simmer till its about to boil. take a dish..add a cup of sifted milk powder+tsp of cornstartch+tsp of gluten-free baking powder, take an egg, whisk and combine with milk powder.Shape in to tiny balls(u will get about 18 from a cup of milk powder) when the milk is nice and hot..slip in the milk powder balls..make sure the milk is on a simmer..leave it for about ten minutes then using a flat spoon turn them over and cook for another ten refrigerate and dish out with pistachio nuts..yum

  11. i was close to tears when i posted on this forum...reality is that even beofre the diagnosis i have always, and i mean always set out with a plan..whether its a meal or an outing...i would be prepared..whether it was extra t shirts..inhalers..snacks(beofre celiac)....that drives my hubby hubby is the spontaneous i guess he just wanted me to stop planning everything .. long story short.....i went on strike and made him responsible for all the meals that day(lunch and snacks)he thought i was kidding around...and i wuld like alwys have some back up...well....i took nothing!....not very wise.. i know..actually completely mad of me.. well anyway he panicked and spend the rest of the day..completely stressed and looking out for options...we were lucky.....found indian curries and plain we had lunch......thank god..then .....found corn on the cob......and other gluten-free options.....found gluten-free candy(toblerone/aero)..we were lucky and he realised was a gamble...but it paid off.....this time......i don't know what i was thinking but i was tired you know.........sometimes it can be very lonely and hubby realised that very risky but paid off for me....i just wanted the meals to be special and healthy but anyways you guys were right ..the kids remebered the games and the fun time we managed fooling around..and the funny pics we took and not the ended well for us...i appreciate each and every one who posted here ....thank you guys... you are part of the family now...there is no other way to explain is easier to relate to you understand...
  12. its been a long day...managed a good lunch and dinner..then was able to freeze and process other side dishes for the up coming weekend...we r taking the kids to a fair tomorrow...i thought it would be smart to pack some snacks and possibly a light meal...hubby thinks its a bad idea...he thinks by planning every meal like this...i am cornering my kids and robbing them of the true what is he thinking...the kids have special diets and i don't want them to feel deprived or to contend with if any or limited choices...but he thinks i am all nutty...he gave me an hours worth of "stop controlling everything"... i am so i being compeletly insane.......i am so hurt...
  13. well uht milk means that the milk has been treated at high temperature for longer shelf life..then packed into tetra packs..its long life alternative to powdered milk..i live in the middle east and have had no luck pursuing anything over the phone...those who attend the toll free numbers have no clue...i have mentioned this beofre on the forum too...that there is very little awareness about celiac here....but anyway reading the labels is the way to go.....i guess..thanx for going thru the trouble of posting and googling....this forum has become my rock....bless u!
  14. thank u for sharing a simple recipe like this...will definitely try this out......
  15. hi guys my kids can now tolerate diary with no symtoms...we do one serving of dairy right now...i wanted your opinions on this product...its a vanilla flavoured uht milk...these r the ingredients on the box...(fresh cows milk, partially skimmed,sugar,nature-identical vanilla flavour, natural colouring E100,Vit A,Vit D,Min 2 % fat,min 8.5% milk solids non fat,uht treated) i just get really nervous with any packaged stuff.. ...i know i sound paranoid..but only parents can understand...
