  1. Have any of you ever had an ANA panel done? Recently I've been in extreme pain. My C Reactive protein is off the chart. I had the ANA blood work done yesterday and I'm just anxious to get the blood work back. I'm not sure how long it's going to take. I'm worried that I have lupus on top of my Celiac disease. Any information anyone can give who may have gone through the same thing would be greatly appreciated!

  3. I have really been craving Hibachi style food lately!!! I know they smother everything at the restaurants with soy sauce so I can't go out but I'd like to try to reproduce it at home. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could try to reproduce the fried noodles? I remember that was my favorite part years ago! I tried using brown rice noodles but I think I'm not doing something right... Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!
  4. My allergy testing is 100% complete now. My reaction to rubber is mild, as is the nickel. I had a plus four reaction to thiomersal though. That is found in vaccines, soap free cleansers, cosmetics, and some first aid products. Thank you all so much for the information! I've continued to eat many foods for the last week that have nickel in them and I haven't had any problems. I'm going to continue to monitor myself and see what happens!
  5. Yeah he told me to try a low nickel diet but that it would be hard because I'm gluten free. He didn't say I needed to completely eliminate it though like we do with gluten. He said chocolate and tree nuts were big ones. I'm still doing research. I'm going back in on Monday so I plan to talk to him more about it.
  6. It's always something. Just found out today I'm also allergic to something in rubber. My B12 and Iron are also too low again. Started dailyB12 shots today and am going in for IV iron next week. It will all be ok but this is all just frustrating. Thanks for the jewelry site. I will look into it.
  7. Hey, I feel your pain here. This is my advice to you. Stick with it. I don't know how long you've been dealing but when I first started my family treated me like I was just going through some phaze and that this was a temporary change but I stuck to my guns and now they try really hard and go out of their way to try and accomidate me. I know it's frustrating because they should respect it right out of the gate but perhaps in time they will come around like my family did for me. Another thing that helped was my skin started having color again and my nails started growing and I had energy. They noticed these things and saw that it wasn't just some silly idea I had in my head. Show them these things that are physical proof that you are getting better.
  8. Hello All! It's been a while since I've been on here. Life has been going well and two years in I'm finally feeling like this gluten free stuff is getting almost easy! Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I've been struggling with allergic reactions lately and testing confirms that I am allergic to nickel which is found in a surprising amount of foods. The foods that I've used to replace the glutenous foods I used to love. Potatoes, beans, chocolate... these are just a few of the items on the list. I'm also supposed to avoid hot water from the tap? I don't know if that means I need to start taking cold showers or what? So anyway, I'm just two days into this and am obviously still doing research but I thought I'd drop by here and see if anyone else has this strange combination of Celiac disease and a nickel allergy. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I hope this message finds all of you in high spirits and good health!
  9. Alright, I was watching a commercial the other day with a calzone in it and I decided I need one. I'm going to try to undertake this baking task over the weekend. I need tips for the dough. I usually use Pam's baking mix for sutff... Will this work for dough as well? Thanks for any help you can offer!
  10. So, I recently started working out with a trainer... and he wants me to start drinking protien shakes. I obviously need to find one that is gluten free if I go for it... I've seen plenty of threads on this topic. I guess I just don't know why I would need them? On my last blood test my iron and protien levels are on the rise. Could someone more in tune with the working out and supplement culture please enlighten me?

  12. Since she already seems to be somewhat familiar with the gluten free life perhaps she wouldn't be opposed to reading some literature on the harms of cross contamination. Maybe if you pop over there for a nice one on one with her you can try to explain. I think e-mails are tricky and I wouldn't respond to her e-mail with an e-mail. You never know how people are going to interpret what you have to say. I don't know how many times I've gotten into little arguments with my mother because she thought I was being rude or snippy in an e-mail!
  13. Yes, I would also say switch over to the stove top way of making the popcorn. It's so much more delicious.
  14. Gotta agree with Tim here. I'm still pretty new to this gluten free lifestyle but the thing that I am learning is that this disease is different for all of. What affects one person may not affect the other. What I do know is that if you have Celiac Disease you should not consume gluten. I realize that some think there might not actually be gluten in some watery domestic light beers but that is not a risk I am personally willing to take. If you say that you can drink regular beer without problem then more power to you!! I'll admit I'm jealous but think I will stick with my gluten free beers, and liquour and wines!
  15. Savvyseller- I already took my trip to Philly. I wish I would have known about your blog before I left! I found a great mexican resturant there called lolita that is almost completely gluten free! I think they only have one dish on their entire menu that isn't gluten free and it has the best flourless chocolate cake ever! I talked to one of their employees and he was very nice and said that they were working on changing their entire menu so they wouldn't any gluten in the resturant at all. You should check it out. I loved it! I think it was at 106 13th st. Not sure about that address though. You shuold check it out and add it to your blog! My apologies if it is already on there and I overlooked it! -MollyBeth
