I felt a little guilty after reading some of the replies. My MAIN annoyance is when people say they are eating gluten free, and then turn around and eat something like a REAL cookie or piece of pizza because it was just too tempting for them. I have been gluten-free for over 5 years now, but I'm still in a little bit of denial about the whole thing. And, I have had numerous other problems since the whole thing started. I haven't felt like my old self in a LONG TIME. It was more venting than anything because life seems SO DIFFICULT and CONSUMING and OVERWHELMING Now (and I just wish it didn't have to be that way).
I get So annoyed when people eat Gluten Free when they don't have to. I guess it's kind of a Fad Diet thing right now. I get irritated because restaurants don't seem to take the "Real Celiac people" as serious now. Also, it's irritating to think that when I go to Whole Foods, and they are out of stock of my favorite food, it could be because of someone who doesn't really HAVE to eat it. I know it's crazy, but that's how I feel. I even get mad at my own family when they eat my food because they can eat ANYTHING in the whole pantry, and I have one little shelf. Gosh....I feel like an angry, selfish Celiac.....just venting! I feel better now.
Just thought I would share my very frustrating experience while dining out tonight. So....my Husband and I went to Stonewood, and I asked for a Gluten Free Menu. The hostess told me that the manager would bring it to our table. The manager brought it over and said, "ummmm.....I was just wondering how serious your allergy is?" I said, "I have Celiac Disease.....so pretty serious I guess you could say." He said, "Well, I probably wouldn't get the steak fries then because they are cooked in the same oil as everything else." Really.....I mean really???? And it said right on the menu that the steak fries were gluten free. I didn't even know what to say. I felt like I couldn't trust anything on the menu at that point. I was surprized because it is a really NICE restaurant, and they just recently came out with a great gluten free menu. I was so excited to eat there. I ended up getting a delicious chicken dish, but I'm home now with a massive headache. Why is life so difficult I continue to ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel so crazy! My Celiac Disease, food allergies, and candida are making my life so difficult! My body acts so strange when I try to add anything new into my diet. I literally have OCD when it comes to what I eat. I eat the same things over and over until I get brave enough to add something new (and then I usually pay for it). The same goes for medicines. I'm almost afraid to go to the Doctor because I don't want to have to take any new medicines. Anyway, my Doctor put me on Metronidazole for a bacterial infection. My hair is falling out and breaking off, I'm bloated, and tired. And, pains are traveling up my spine and into my neck and shoulders. From what I can find, this medicine is Gluten free, and I couldn't find any dairy or soy in it either. I only have 2 more days after today of the medicine, and I didn't want to try something else because I figured I would most likely have the same reaction. And, now my Doctor just called and said she is going to put me on Diflucan for the third time for the candida (which just WON'T seem to Ever go away). It's so weird - my hair is my number one clue that I am eating something I shouldn't be. When I wake up in the morning, it feels like straw, and sticks up all over from all the broken pieces. I DON'T understand how it can show up in my hair SO FAST, but it does (especially from nightshades). I'm just losin it!
I take Constipation Stop by Renew Life. It's the only thing that works for me. I take two once or twice a week, and it does the trick everytime. It's kind of hard to find in stores though - you may have to order it online.
I personally think it is a VERY DIFFICULT thing about being Gluten Free! I panic everytime someone offers to make me food, and I usually don't have the guts to tell them ALL OF THE REASONS why I don't want to eat it. I feel your pain.
If any of you fellow Celiac's are like me, I get really excited when I see a new Gluten Free Food on the shelf. When I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I started eating Puffins Cereal, and LOVED it!!! I soon found out that it was wheat free supposively, but not gluten free. It also contained soy (I think). Anyway, the other day I saw that Puffins now said, "Gluten Free" on the box. I was very excited! Anyway, when I looked closer, it said that it is verified to contain less than 20 ppm gluten. I do not understand this. It's either gluten free or it's not, right??? What does this mean? I've heard this before and never knew what it meant. Also, it says, contains soy (in corn). What does that mean? I can't do soy, but does that mean the soy is in the corn?? Anyway, I ate the cereal for 2 days, and Loved it again - but did not feel well those 2 days. Had D both days, and felt like my muscles were aching. Let down again!!! Just wondering if anyone could give any helpful info on this. Thanks!
It just sucks that I can be sick for 2 days because a waiter accidentally put a crouton in my salad, when I could have at least had something Really Yummy!!! I guess I would rather be sick for 2 days than 2 weeks though!
That's strange because now that you mention it, I got two big sores on the inside of my lip last time I went. However, I thought it was from me biting my lip really hard and not knowing it because I was SO NUMB.
Hey! I am going to Busch Gardens with my Family next week. I have never been there before, and am having a little anxiety about food and restaurants. Does anyone know if any restaurants in or near Busch Gardens have Gluten Free Menus? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Does anyone else get sick when they go to the Dentist?? I love my Dentist, but I get sick everytime I go in for a cleaning or a filling. I have to immediately get in bed after every visit. I asked my Dentist about it, and he didn't seem to know what Celiac Disease was, and he told me he was sure that there was not wheat in any of his products. What should I do? I don't want to be sick, but I feel really funny asking him if I could see the labels of all the products that he uses. Does anyone else have this problem?
I try extremely hard to eat gluten free, but as we all know, sometimes we accidentally get glutened. Everytime this happens, I think in my head that I might as well go and eat something I love (like a chick-fil-a sandwhich for example). What would be the harm if I already know I am going to be sick for a couple of days anyway??? However, I haven't had the guts to do it yet, but I think about it EveryTime!!!
