I've been a celiac for year now. I just broke out a couple of weeks ago on my elbows (which is usually) but I also broke out on my knuckles and fingers (which is becoming more common the last few times). Your son's pictures look like a typically DH breakout. Does it itch? I know that my red spots are both painful and itchy. I know that if I do itch it ... it seems to last A LOT longer. I would recommend hydrocortisone and no itching. My skin is also very sensitive so I try not to use any hand soap, body wash, shampoo, detergent which have wheat products in it. I use Softsoap hand soap and body wash and Garnier Fructus shampoo and Purex Free for detergent. Hope this help! Best of luck at your appointment!

I also have to be really careful with my hair products/lotions, etc. I have had great luck with Garnier Fructis and Dove products. Be cafeful at your hair salon b/c a lot of the high end hair products (usually used at hair salons) contain hydrolyzed wheat protein.

I'm also from the Rochester, NY. There are a ton of great resturants ... here's a list of them ( I always go to Dino BBQ, Simply Crepes, Distellery, PF Changs, Bone Fish, Chili's, Outback, Carrabba's, Five Guys, Chipotle with no problems at all. I also love, love Wendy's Chili (sometimes you just need something easy and quick). I also wanted to note the two great gluten-free bakery we are so lucky to have in Rochester. Donna Marie's and Eco Bella Oh yea, the pizza and baked goods at Nick's Pizza ( amazing!!!

It should heal with the diet. Also, I would check your hair product's ingredients for wheat. I have really bad itching reactions when I use anything with wheat in it. I have also heard that others have this problem at my local Celiac Support Group.

Yes. I am still on birth control but always take the week off for my sugar pills. Also, I forgot to add that my periods were always very normal prior to losing them.

      Missing Menstrual Period
I am new to the gluten-free world as I just got diagnosed this month. My major issue which drove me to get tested (besides all the stomach issues) was missed menstrual periods. I have gotten my period twice since January 2006. My most recent period was September 2007. After a lot of tests, my gyno said that this was "normal" for someone on birth control for a long period of time. I never felt at ease with this b/c it's just not normal to lose your period for that long. With my diagnosis, I'm finally at ease because it just makes sense now.

      So, for my questions:
Has anyone else had/have this problem?
And with a gluten free diet, how long did it take to get your period back?

I never thought I would say this ... but I can't wait to get it. My husband and I are not currently trying to have children, but this will help me feel at ease knowing that I will be able too.
