Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that I went to see a specialist today and he recommend that I go gluten free for 6 more weeks and then get the gene test and coeliac blood tests again to see if my result goes down.

Thanks for all of your suggestions!

I gave up dairy years ago because it was making me sick. I'm going to see my specialist tomorrow and will ask if I can be tested for other allergies.

I'm vegan and gluten free, so it can definitely be done. I eat lots of rice (which is cheap) and rice noodles, also have started making things like corn fritters and polenta. It doesn't have to be expensive.

      Feeling Worse
So I've been gluten free now for a little over 3 weeks and I'm really sick, in fact I am worse than before. Every day I have nausea (generally in the morning), pain in my stomach area, and diarrhea. I also get these sharp pain behind my right eye every few days/ I've been really careful and mostly eating at home. The doctor did say that I also have reflux which is caused by a small valve or something but i'm been taking medication to help it. I also tried switching my stomach medication and that still didn't help. I don't understand how I'm worse, i've never been this sick before, before the symptons were every now and then not every day. I've tried paying attention to what I eat because I am eating more rice, corn and soy but it seemed to happen regardless of what I eat.

Raleigh, Thank you for sharing! was there much time between the two biopsies?

The high blood test 200url level I mentioned was tissue transglutaminase IgA.If I don't have it, then why my levels be so high? It just doesn't make sense.

I'm seeing my specialist in a week and will be interested to see what he says. I'm going to keep eating gluten free until then.

Maybe I should try eating gluten free for a month and then try gluten just to test it out, what do you think?

      Confused- Biopsy Result Normal?
My blood result showed that I had as my specialist explained 'impressively high' coeliac antibodies (IGA)- 200 u/ml, and also tested postive to IGA. The specialist said given my levels it would be pretty unlikely that the biopsy wouldn't be positive for coeliac disease. Although he did say that given my age (29) that my intestine is likely to not be very damaged. In between seeing my doctor and my specialist I went gluten free as recommended by my doctor, but that was less than a week and then I continued to eat gluten for a few more weeks until the biopsy, but the biopsy shows a normal intestine.

I'm confused! Since the biopsy I started eating gluten free and have been feeling a lot better, also I accidentally ate some gluten at a restaurant and noticed the difference straight away: bloating etc. Does this mean that I am not celiac? I've got another 3 weeks before I see my specialist.

Have you been tested for coealic's disease or wheat intolerance etc? I'm just wondering, because if it just wheat, you have more options. I think you should get some blood tests before going off everything because otherwise you might be giving up things for no reason.

    10. mangomagic added a post in a topic Feel Worse Before Feel Better?

Thanks for all of my responses, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who felt sick and that it might only last a little while.

It wasn't really phasing out, what happened was I got my blood test results from the doctor, who referred me to a specialist and said that I should stop eating gluten. So I did, for just under a week and felt sick. But then I saw a specialist who said that I can keep eating it up until my biopsy in a couple of weeks, so I happily started eating it again but am feeling way worse. Which leads to my other question, do I have to keep eating it if it makes me sick, I read somewhere that you should keep eating gluten so that the biopsy is correct, but I'm really not well. I've left a message for the specialist to find out. What do you think?

      Feel Worse Before Feel Better?
I've started to phase out gluten from my diet, but I actually feel worse than I usually do. My symptoms are nausea, upset stomach and vomiting. Has anyone else had this problem? How long before I should feel better?
