  1. Cant Stop Eating Gluten, What To Do?

    I am in a similar position, I have been gluten free for 6 months and due a a very misinformed doctor, I have to be tested again. I'm currently 5 weeks from my endoscope, and I have been eating very small amounts of gluten for a few days. All the symptoms are back minus the violent vomiting, The depression, fatigue, mind fog, severe cramps and bloating, just as they were before. A nutritionist recommended Gluten Digest ( to me for help with the symptoms as I really have to eat more than traces of gluten or the test will be invalid. Will this help the symptoms? Will it make the test invalid? Will it cause any other damages? Any help is greatly appreciated. Rebecca
  2. I have been reading a lot lately, and it seems as though my celiac symptoms may be related to chronic Candida infections in an unhappy place. I am going in for a biopsy in August after returning to gluten for the month of July. This is to test for Celiac, but I was wondering if an overgrowth of Candida would be visible to the gastroenterologist either during the endoscopy, or in the actual biopsy. Please help!!

    I'm so glad this is up!!! My Celiac symptoms have only been severe since about December 2009. It was over my Christmas break at home that I tried a new bath soak and it started an infection. Since then, any gluten is completely intolerable, and the infections return within a week of starting the medications for them. I read the link you posted and I'm wondering if this could be related, and if there is a way to find out. I am returning to gluten starting in July to have an upper endoscopy in August because even after the diet change, I'm barely feeling 50%. Will this, or the biopsy included, show a Candida infection? Any advise or links would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey, I work at a Tim Horton's and that is pretty much gluten central. However, we don't make the products, we just bake from frozen. I find this is all fine for me. I have to be careful if I am making the sandwiches because I sometimes get migraines, but no other symptoms. You shouldn't really have a problem. I agree on the chicken thing though...I won't eat anything from work anymore, I just bring myself dinner now. It's 100% safe, and it's better for you because you can avoid all the horrible preservatives in prepared foods. It's nothing to leave your job over, just be careful about washing your hands if you are going to touch something you will be eating, and try bringing lunch or snacks for your breaks. Good Luck!

    I can't really help you but I hope some one responds. I'm exactly the same way though. If I don't eat as soon as I feel hungry, the migrane will hit within half an hour. Good luck
  7. Well, I had blood tests done, and I'm waiting for an upper endoscopy in August. I have to get back on gluten for this and its going to be awful going back. I don't know what you mean by test kit for EnteroLab. The process as I understood was blood tests for antibodies, followed by the upper endoscopy. I would recommend you stay on the gluten-rich diet if there may be a need for other tests though. Trust me, after feeling better, the last thing you want to do is get sick again.
  8. Not2sure, I had a false negative because my doctor actually told me to remove gluten before getting tested. You said your waiting for the lab request?? I would suggest having some gluten before taking the blood tests. Then you know your result is valid. Good luck.

    I actually just had to deal with this for the return to the school in September. The girl I chose to live with has a peanut allergy so I won't have to worry about being a "kitchen nazi". My best advice would be to say allergy friendly in your add. But don't feel the need to promote your specific requests until you are actually communicating with or even meeting with these possible roommates. Just make it clear how serious their cooperation is to you and your health. If they are a good potential roommate, they will be fully understanding. Good Luck
  10. dana, The constant pain is normal, I've been off four months and I still hurt some days. Just remember that how you feel is the key, you can be gluten intolerant without having celiac disease. Once your results have come in, perhaps you should try removing gluten anyways? Just my thoughts. Good luck. Becca

  12. First of all, if you are having a reaction, cutting out wheat will not eliminate all gluten. You have to watch out for many other things as well. you can find a couple good lists on and Secondly, if you want a formal diagnosis, you can't get off the gluten just yet. I had a doctor tell me too and I ended up testing negative, now I have to return to gluten for 6 weeks to be tested again. My advice is to maintain it in your diet in moderate quantities for the rest of the month. For example, don't go eating half a pizza, but try a slice, or a few crackers, whatever you can tolerate enough to last a month. In terms of your symptoms, yes, this is exactly what I went through as well, but for me it got to the point where i would be violently ill after contact. I eat at a dining hall at school so I'm kinda putting my health in the hands of others. Thats why you should be careful to not ingest too much over the next 4 weeks. You may not have Celiac Disease, it is possible to have Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance, or a wheat allergy. This is why you should get tested, if you are allergic to only wheat, your list of danger ingredients gets shorter. I went through this while away from home, so I can understand the struggle. I was lucky enough to have a very supportive friend. I suggest you tell the people closest to you what is going on, it's nice to do it without feeling alone.   13. Can't Quench My Appitite

    Coolclimates, I am similar this way. I have been off gluten for nearly 4 months now, and the cravings are still getting stronger. They also tend to focus on objects not within my grasp. (lately it's been a butter croissant that I really want ) I'm thinking it may be our body's desire for proteins it is used to getting. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will tell us, but the way I see it, when you go with out coffee after having it on a daily basis, you crave it. Maybe it is similar, in that your body wants what it thinks it needs, even if you now know that it isn't what you should have. Rather than crave a slice of bread, you'll crave what you enjoyed, pie cookies, etc. To answer your question, it seems to be a psychological desire, but brought on by some level of physiology. My advice, you can make low calories sweets, such as peanut butter cookies that may help to trick your body. Just 2 cups low fat PB, 1 cup of pure white sugar, and 1 egg makes 24 very healthy cookies. Also, they are good for about 2 weeks, (but my family usually devours them before that). I hope this helps a little, I know how you feel.

    My advice is to contact the tattoo parlor you expect to visit and ask what ink brands they use. That is what I have done. They will give you a number for the company's customer service line, if not, it's usually on their website. The two companies I dealt with answered my questions knowledgeably, and provided me with MSDS sheets for me to double-check. I can tell you right off the bat that Dynamic Color Company and Eternal Inks are both free of gluten, tested under a detectable amount (<100pm) of all hard metals, including Nickel, Lead, and Mercury. You can feel safe about your tattoos To those of you that get swelling, exposure to sun for long periods of time can cause this, make sure you wear at least an SPF 45 on your tattoo even if you don't usually wear sunscreen. Don't expose it to sun if it is still healing. If you are getting an eczema type rash near the tattoo, I would contact both the artist and you doctor. I know this is a really old topic but I came across it while I was looking for information so I thought I would return and post what I have learned.
