  1. Thank you all for your responses. I will have to talk more with my friend to get more specific information. Her son may be gluten intolerant, or there may be other issues to address. Hard to tell. Again, thanks!
  2. gluten-free Lover, he is not celiac that I'm aware of, although he's not been tested. I've suggested in the past that the entire family try being gluten free because of multiple health problems, but they're not amenable to this. NCGI is a possibility too. If he is NCGI, why do you question if a problem exists?
  3. A friend asked me the following, and I'm not sure what to tell her. I did suggest she look in to leaky gut syndrome. Other than that, any suggestions? (Yes, I know... I'm puzzled also about her use of the term 'regular bread products', as opposed to whole grains.) Thank you in advance! "Nutrition question: do you know of anything in the outer coating (the rough parts) of grains like wheat that would be an irritant or allergen? Sean has never been good with whole grains, but he has no trouble with regular bread products. It finally became obvious when we shared a whole-grain muffin that was very soft and finely-ground, but still made his stomach upset. It has me baffled." Thanks, -Beth.
  4. Just to let you know, Vitacost . com has gluten free food products on sale (15% off) in honor of Celiac Awareness Month. I think they carry the brands you mention.
  5. For a variation on the kielbasa with grape jam and chili sauce in the crock pot.... I've done something similar with meatballs, using grape jam and BBQ sauce. I use Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. I had to make my own meatballs, since I couldn't find any pre-made that are gluten free, but it's not too difficult. You can make them with ground turkey to save some money. And yes, this really is an amazing dish. You will not have left overs, believe me!
  6. Thank you for your input. I was wondering if the portions were adequate. The packages do seem expensive for what's in them. It's probably just as easy and more cost effective to put my own packets together. I can make a meal out of a handful of almonds, a banana, and a Kind bar if I have to. I tend to stay away from processed, prepackaged foods (except for the Kind bars and the Kit's Organic Bars by Clif), anyway.
  7. Has anyone eaten the Go Picnic Gluten Free meals? I'm thinking about getting a few for our vacation in June. They have a buy one get one free special on until tomorrow at midnight. I'd love to read a review! Thanks. Beth.
  8. A friend who also gluten free has told me that she has eaten safely at Asian Box in San Francisco. I haven't been there personally.
  9. You might look at
  10. I'd be wary of the "natural flavors" listed in 'other ingredients'. This product also contains sucralose (ie Splenda), so personally, I wouldn't touch it. Splenda does not like me.
  11. Jennie O turkey products are listed as gluten free on their website, including their sweet and hot Italian turkey sausage.
  12. try these....
  13. Well, heck. Godiva chocolate also states that their products are not safe for celiac or NCGI folks. Sigh.
  14. ok, one more... if you will be in Half Moon Bay, Fish and Frites has amazing fish and chips, with a dedicated fryer and a rice based coating available for the freshly caught fish, direct from the fishing boats in Pillar Point Harbor. And yes, you can eat the fries, too.
  15. Also, check out The Counter restaurant chain. A bit pricey for burgers and fries, but these are gourmet burgers and excellent, gluten-free fries. I've enjoyed their bison burgers. They offer lettuce wrap or a bun, which I believe may be Udi's. I generally prefer the lettuce wrap, but that's just me.
