  1. Thank you for all the info. I've been wearing my Google search button out these last few days. I finally put in a call to 2 of my doctors (naturopath and family doc) to see what they think. My naturopath is going to think I'm NUTS and tell me not to do this... family doc probably won't have a clue. It seems hard to believe that the body wouldn't be making enough antibodies to spill over when one feels like such crap that you know something bad is happening on the inside. Ugh... I think I'm gonna give up. I wish I never would have happened upon that blog that mentioned the need for Celiac plasma. It really would have been the answer to a lot of our problems. We are spending 25 bucks on our wedding ceremony (24 hour church of Elvis). It's kitschy and we've been together so long, we don't really care about that part. But, we did want to afford a nice place to stay at the coast for a couple nights. I'll just keep at it the old fashioned way... 2 jobs and looking for more! It's the American way!

  3. I'm going to eat gluten for the next week and see what happens. I find it hard to believe that I wouldn't have any antibodies... I suppose it more depends on how many antibodies I will have by the time my blood is drawn. I won't know until I try. I ate a biscuit. It was hard to take that first bite. My heart was beating fast. But then I thought, people do this all the time under doctors orders. I have to say, since going gluten free 2 years ago, I don't really feel like I miss out on much. Living in Portland, I'm pretty lucky to have so many alternatives at my finger tips. The most difficult times for me have been traveling and staying with family who don't know anything about Celiac disease. I've been glutened by family members, only b/c I felt so bad that they had "gone out of their way" to appease my diet, even though I knew it wasn't 100% gluten free. LIke the time my uncle stuffed the turkey with stuffing at Easter. I just ate a tiny bit of white meat from as far inside as I could... but took a very long nap later. Oh well, he somewhat tried. I'm certain he has Celiac disease, too. I tried to get him to back off gluten for a while but he's pretty stuck in his ways. Thank you all for your comments.
  4. I hear ya... but I'm in no position to turn down the potential to make $1000 a week for a few days suffering. I'm a teacher who is already working a summer job and looking for more work... and I'm getting married this summer. I need to at least try.
  5. Thank you... I'm a bit scared. I've never intentionally eaten gluten since going gluten-free. But, if they accept my blood test results, it'll be well worth it!
  6. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I am in a financial bind and found that there are medical companies seeking plasma from people with auto-immune disorders (celiac being one of them) and offer a substantial amount of money for each donation. However, they need current blood tests with antibodies present... which makes sense since they are using the plasma to try and create vaccines. They (the laboratories) claim they have clients who are on gluten free diets who still test positive for antibodies in their blood. So, I'll just do what I can in the days leading up to my test and take my chances... I won't know until I try, I suppose. And, if I don't qualify, I'll be bummed but I'll survive.
  7. I learned I have Celiac disease 2 years ago through a stool/saliva test given to me by my naturopath. She said I was off the charts. I also test positive for the Celiac gene. And, I have DH. But, I've never seen a piece of paper that says I definitely have Celiac Disease. Ever since my doctor informed me of this I went gluten free right away and noticed significant improvement almost immediately. We did the whole thing... new pans, new toaster, cleaned out the cabinets, etc... My issue is that I LOVE to eat out and even though I feel I'm careful, I still get gluten through cross-contamination on occasion. Well, now I've learned I need a positive blood test with antibodies present and have read that results may come back negative since I've been gluten-free for so long. So now I feel I need to eat some gluten over the next few days in order to get + results. My symptoms show up as extreme fatigue, so I'll be napping a lot, joint pain, brain fog, DH flare ups and some gastrointestinal issues. My test is next week. Do you think a few days of eating small amounts of gluten will do it for me? Or do I just need to go for it and suffer the consequences? I should say I feel that I MUST have some antibodies in there b/c I currently have a DH flare-up. Has anyone else had to consume gluten for testing after not eating it for a long time? I have my eye on a pastry which I haven't eaten in over 2 years... I live in Portland, Oregon... ever heard of Voodoo Doughnuts? the Maple Bacon bar to be exact???   8. Last April (2010) I was diagnosed with Celiac disease so I went gluten-free hardcore... even replacing pots, pans, and my toaster in my house. The physical improvements I felt were incredible and sudden. One of the biggest changes I noticed was that my gut didn't swell up like someone had pumped it full of air immediately after every meal. I was actually able to eat a (gluten-free) pasta dish and not feel like I was going to explode. I hadn't known that was possible. Well, now... 9 months later I'm starting to feel that bloat again. I feel that my intestines are constantly swollen and I can't figure it out. I'm eating at home and only gluten-free ingredients. I went to my naturopath and had another food allergy test done to see if there's anything I may have missed. Waiting on the results. Maybe I'm getting too slack in my ingredients? When I first went gluten-free each trip to the store was a grueling hour long (or more)process. I feel like I've got it down now but who knows. Did anyone else experience this after going gluten-free? The improvement and then a setback? What did you do? Thank you, Stephanie
  9. It seems that each time I go out to eat I find out more and more people are making the effort to please their gluten-free customers, however, they're just not quite getting the whole picture. A couple weeks ago I went out to breakfast and when I told the server I am a Celiac he said they had gluten-free toast now. I was so excited and actually thought about ordering eggs Benedict when my loving boyfriend pointed out they may not have a dedicated toaster. Sure enough, upon asking, they didn't.... so, it's not exactly gluten-free toast. I suggested they purchase a cheap toaster to keep separate. We'll see. Then, I went out to a little coffee shop with a friend and she learned they had gluten-free bagels, Udi's no less! She was so excited, though she's not a Celiac, that she ordered one with cream cheese and split it with me... about halfway through my half the toaster thing popped in my head... so, I asked the mgr and he said, nope... they only have one toaster. So, again, I had to tell him as nicely as possible that it's not 100% gluten-free when toasted in a contaminated toaster. So, here I am with a Dermatitis Herpetiformis flare up a few days later and extreme exhaustion. Not exactly how I planned on spending my T-day break. Funny how we see gluten-free on the menu and assume they've got the rest covered for us. But, at least they are making the steps!
  10. I'm having a hard time finding gluten-free body care products like: shampoo, conditioner, facial moisturizer, lotion, etc... I've seen where you can order things online but surely there are products out there that work well and are gluten-free already on the shelves. What do you use?
  11. I love Tinkyada brown rice pastas! I discovered them by going to my favorite pasta restaurant here in Portland, Pastini. They offer just about any of their dishes using their pasta. Once I learned the brand name I went straight to Whole Foods and bought some for myself. Great in mac and cheese, too!
  12. They do and it's wonderful... as are their bagels.. I mean, they are REAL bagels! I've heard their muffins are great, too but I have yet to try them.

  14. I recently found out that I have Celiac disease and when I was tested I also learned that I am not allergic to dairy like so many with Celiac are... However, the past few days I've been waking up with severe cramping in my lower abdominals and diarrhea. I've been completely gluten-free with no chance of CC but I've eaten a lot of dairy (pizza, glass of milk, quiche with cheese). That's all I can relate it to. Is it possible that even though it didn't show up on my test as being an allergy I'm just temporarily intolerant? I haven't been able to speak with my naturopath yet. I hate the thought of giving up dairy (I love cheese) but I guess it's a small sacrifice to pay so that I don't have to go through this every morning. Has anyone else had this problem?   15. I found out I was intolerant to gluten at the end of April and I'm pretty sure I'm Celiac (waiting on test to come back). I did a great job of transitioning to an all gluten-free diet and had immediate positive results. I'm a teacher and this diet was easy to stick to while I was doing my regular work schedule. Once summer hit, however... I had no schedule, I was sleeping late, not eating 3 square meals, and I began eating out more and more, rather than diligently preparing my own foods... always ordering gluten-free options but somewhere along the line I got glutened... and I think it was over a steady period of time. Yesterday, my gut just couldn't take it anymore. I had the full-on distended hard belly that I was formerly accustomed to, I've been gaining weight like crazy, been exhausted, and depressed. (I should mention I was also trying to do a Candida diet but I was over-indulging in sugar as well) So, I know what to do to get back on the right track but my question is this... what exactly is happening in my belly to make my stomach protrude so much... and why is it hard? It's not gas. Are my intestines swollen or something? It's the strangest thing! When I was making my own food I couldn't believe that I was able to eat and not get bloated beyond comfort... I just thought that was a part of growing older. But now that I know that it's not normal to feel that way. Any ideas? Thank you, Stephanie
