      Yes! I saw this yesterday at my Costco (Northern VA -- Pentagon City). I bought two loaves, and couldn't believe my eyes because I didn't know they were making a larger loaf.

      Well...if it were me I would say the apples. I cannot eat them without getting indigestion. ugh. 
      Here's my story if any of it might help you figure it out.
      Diagnosed "probably celiac", based on blood work that was "suspicious". I didn't question her too much because by then I'd gone off gluten and felt 200% better. I didn't care to do the gluten challenge in order to have an endoscopy because I don't care that I don't have an "official" label. All I knew was that I felt better.
      I went off gluten and ate everything else. Lots of corn, of course, because of corn chex and corn tortillas etc. Fast forward to about six months ago. Suddenly I realized that much of the time I had terrible indigestion and often bloating after eating. I was SURE there was no gluten in anything I'd eaten because when I've done the cooking and it's chicken and potatoes and green beans....well, there's no gluten. 
      I began to wonder if it was the corn, or other grains. So, as an experiment I went off of all grains. And wow, felt 200% better again! My plan had been to add them back in one at a time so I could see which one it was. But almost before I could do that I had an appointment scheduled with my doctor for a regular checkup. And to my surprise my blood work showed an elevated a1c, which indicates what she called "pre-diabetes". Her prescription was to lose weight, exercise and cut down on carbs. NOT no-carb which she said is not healthy (in her opinion).
      She recommended a nutritionist, and two books: "The Glycemic Load Diabetes Solution" by Rob Thompson, MD, and "The Insulin Resistance Diet" by Cheryle R. Hart, MD, and Mary Kay Grossman, RD. The nutritionist also said that both were good basic info about carb-protein "linking". Basically you have to not have a lot of carbs all at once, and what you do have you need to eat with protein. So my breakfast of coffee and two slices of Udis with butter and jelly, followed by Corn Chex with fruit and milk was just about the worst thing I could eat. That explained my sudden ravenous hunger and shakiness mid-morning. ugh
      So now my breakfast might be one piece of toast with an egg, or cheese and sliced turkey, or cottage cheese with a small amount of fruit, and maybe some almonds. And no apples, because fruit is carbohydrates and for some reason apples upset my stomach. That breakfast holds me till lunchtime! And at lunch I'm just ordinary hungry, not ravenous must-eat-everything-in-sight-especially-bread-with-butter hungry. lol
      My doctor said that indigestion can be a sign of pre-diabetes and that explains why I felt so much better when I cut out grains. Also I had been eating a lot of potatoes since I figured they're gluten free and bland for my stomach. Nope, they may be bland but they're carbs.
      So basically I've given up all "white" and "processed" carbs. I still eat fruit, but not a HUGE smoothie worth of it first thing in the morning. I still put some sugar in my coffee -- I like the sweetened creamers and I'm not messing with my coffee.   Priorities you know. lol.
       So those are my experiences, and maybe something in there might strike a cord for your situation. I know how frustrating it is to still have uncomfortable symptoms and not know what's causing it!

      Never mind food for meals...if you're staying in Alexandria you must check out The Happy Tart bakery. 2307A Mt. Vernon Ave., 571-244-3662. They make the BEST Nutella strudel (and Nutella/banana) -- flaky crust like I rarely see in gluten-free stuff. omg. Although they make a good chocolate cake also, I always request the strudels for my birthday now. My dh buys a box and we stick candles in each one. lol. -- The lemon tartlets are really good too. Well, everything I've tried has been good. But the strudel and the lemon tartlet are my favorites.

      These kind of people annoy me because of what it might be "teaching" the servers in restaurants. If I go out and have a salad I ask to see the ingredients in the dressing. My friend who is gluten free "because I need to lose weight" (ugh) eats her croutons and whatever dressing she wants. But she's "gluten free" because she's given up pasta and bread. No, you are "low carb" maybe but you are not gluten free!

      This was, and still is to some extent, something I wondered about. I guess I don't come from a family that's tied up in food issues, because I can't imagine any one of them getting angry or hurt if I didn't eat something they'd prepared. I'm sorry for those of you who do have family (or friends) like this.

      Yes to "most of them haven't a clue." lol. Or, not-lol. Like the woman who gave me all the ingredients of the chowder she brought to a church potluck. It was all basic -- potatoes, milk, etc. But since I've learned my lesson the hard way on this I persisted in questioning her and asked "and what about thickening, what did you use for that?" Oh flour, said she, but it was "only a little bit in such a large pot, that's okay isn't it?" ugh.   
       I'm a skeptic though and don't trust most restaurants either.

      Yes, I know the breakfast potatoes are gluten-free. I said that in my first post. That's what I had. But it was hash browns that showed up on her plate even after we stressed gluten free. The waitress agreed that they were NOT gluten free when I called her over. -- The last time I went there (maybe 6 months or so ago) they actually had onion rings listed on the gluten free menu. I asked the waitress at the time what sort of bread crumbs they used to make gluten-free onion rings and she looked at me blankly. And it turns out that they were NOT gluten free. So, they may have "bent over backwards" for the gluten-free community but I'm advising everyone who needs gluten free to avoid them or to be really careful. Clearly standards have slipped.

      Good thread. I was just thinking about these conversations the other day, when I had one of them on a message board I belong to. My favorites have already been mentioned here, but I'll just mention them again.
      1. "My sister/cousin/whoever is coming for dinner and she's gluten free now. What can I cook?????!!!!!" or, a cousin to this question is "Oh I'm so sorry [when they hear I can't eat gluten] -- what can you eat now???!!!???!!!" (always said with all the drama of the exclamations). -- On my message board I always answer: "if you have no other food intolerances then you can eat everything that's not wheat, barley, or rye, and oats because of contamination." Then I start listing everything. hehehehe
      2. Me, calling a new pizza place: "Hi, I'm wondering if you have a gluten free crust?" 
      Pizza guy: "um.. glucose?"
      Me: Thank you. {click, as I hang up}
      3. Random person at my church: "I'm thinking of going gluten free because I want to lose weight. [insert eye roll from me] Do you have a good wheat bread recipe?"
      Me: "um, wheat bread has gluten in it."
      Random person: "No, I mean wheat. Not white bread."
      Me: "um...." [omg]
      4. Me at monthly soup dinner at church, to woman who brought chowder: "What are the ingredients in your chowder?"
      Woman: "Oh it's safe for you -- potatoes, corn, milk, onions, salt and pepper."
      Me: "That's it? Sounds good." 
      Woman: "Yep, that's it. I knew it was safe for you."
      Me: [because I wasn't born yesterday and I know how these things go...] "And did you thicken it with anything?"
      Woman: "Yes, just a little bit of flour. But it's only a little bit in that big pot of soup, so it's okay."
      Me: "um..." 
      5. Single neighbor [i.e., no family to be cooking for]: "My doctor said he wants me to try going gluten free, but omg I don't know what to cook! It's so difficult to figure it all out! How do you do it?"
      Me: "You know, it's really not at all difficult. Restaurants are harder, and parties too. But if you're cooking for yourself all you have to do is avoid wheat, barley, and rye. Cook anything else you want for yourself."
      Neighbor: "Like what?"
      Me: "um..."
      Can you tell that I feel like I spend a lot of time saying "um..."? lol. 
      But seriously, I understand that people don't understand about gluten. But I don't get it when people don't seem to realize that "white bread" is made from wheat just as much as "wheat bread" is. Really? do they think there's a grain called "white"? omg. 
      And the ones who think that "just a little bit" won't hurt. 
      Well, I'm past all that at this point. And I also don't care what other people think, and I don't care if I'm eating a salad and everyone else is eating a burger. And, I won't go to meetings in restaurants any more. We seem to have  a lot of people at my church, including the pastor, who want to meet at restaurants. But in addition to gluten it's usually too noisy for good conversation. So now I won't. My answer is always "it's okay, go ahead and have the meeting there. Let me know what you talked about." I'm always hoping that I'll be able to get out of the meeting, actually, but usually they have it at the church because "we want you there also." ugh.

      Eat 'n Park Problems, Again
      I posted about Eat 'n Park some time ago (they had something on their gluten free menu that wasn't gluten-free). So I went there again yesterday with my mother who is also gluten free. (I'm in Pittsburgh visiting her). She likes Eat 'n Park so even though I don't we went there because she wanted to.
      We looked on the gluten-free menu and it said omelets were gluten free. I double checked with the waitress, she said yes they were. Also the breakfast potatoes. So we ordered, then waited forever (which is usual for Eat 'n Park). Finally our food came and right there on her plate next to her omelet were not breakfast potatoes but hash browns. They were only touching one end of the omelet and she didn't want to send it all back and have to wait forever again for a replacement. So I cut off that end of the omelet and gave it and the potatoes to my son. I mentioned it to the waitress when she came back, and then a few minutes later one of the managers came by and gave us our check with the cost of the omelet deducted. Nice of them, but still no help about the gluten. Fortunately my mother was fine with it this morning since she didn't actually eat any. (she's not diagnosed with celiac but went gluten-free after I was diagnosed, and feels 100% better so never went back to it).
      I ordered ordinary eggs, bacon, and the potatoes and feel fine this morning so I guess that was okay. (except that the eggs were not cooked well, and my tea was hardly hot). But I would advise avoiding Eat 'n Park unless you absolutely have no choice, especially if you are very sensitive to gluten.

      But those "Vatican-approved" communion wafers are not gluten free, they're "low gluten". Which wouldn't be good enough for me. I suspect the OP isn't Catholic though since the Catholics have communion at every mass (unless the OP only goes to church once a month). Many mainline protestants (mine included, Presbyterian) only have it once a month.
      For the OP -- if you are not Catholic then there are gluten free communion hosts, or perhaps you could use bread. You could either bring it with you, or have the church provide it. My church either does all gluten-free bread when we have communion passed through the pews on trays, or they have gluten-free wafers available when we come up front for real bread.

      A medical alert bracelet isn't really supposed to be for people to "take notice", like in a restaurant or something like that. It's intended to be for emergencies, like someone is unconscious or disoriented. The emergency personnel (EMTs, etc.) can see the information on the bracelet and treat the person accordingly. For example, some people who are having a diabetes emergency can act/look like they're drunk. If a police officer thought the person was drunk and just took them into the local jail the person could die. But if the bracelet alerts them to diabetes the police can call the EMTs immediately.
      So personally I would never wear one for celiac since it's not an immediately life-threatening condition. If I'm unconscious from something else the last thing the medical workers are going to do is feed me food with gluten.
      And about those tattoos....many (most?) observant Jews do not believe in tattoos because of Leviticus 19:28. There is the argument that can be made that the verse was written to counter the pagan religious beliefs of that time, in an effort to encourage Jewish people from slipping into those practices and beliefs. But many Jews today do not believe in tattoos.
      eta: I'm talking about adults. For a child it might be a good idea, especially when they're younger and maybe aren't good at advocating for themselves yet. Although I still wouldn't expect people to "take notice" of it, you'd have to speak up about it.

      Found A Wonderful New-To-Me Cookie! Wow Lemon Burst...
      These just appeared on the gluten free shelf in my grocery store. I've never seen them before. The company is WOW -- apparently that means "without wheat", lol.  (although they aren't just "wheat free" they're gluten free). It says made on a dedicated gluten free facility. They're soft and chewy and lemony. And all the ingredients are things I can pronounce. And, the package says "these cookies have more friends" and shows other types -- snickerdoodles, peanut butter, ginger molasses, and chocolate chip. Next time I'm at the grocery I'm going to request to the manager that he order some of the other kind.
      Anyway, that's my new food find. They are perfect with a cup of tea in the afternoon.

      Now this is really a coincidence! lol. I haven't been on these forums in awhile but I was thinking of coming to post and ask about going grain free, and here's your post. lol
      I recently gave up most grains kind of by accident. We were on vacation at a beach house and I always try to cook simple stuff while we're there. So I did linguini with clam sauce, and pasta salad with chicken, burgers, hotdogs, etc. For the gluteny things I just didn't bother to make a gluten-free version. The night they had linguini and clam sauce I just had a big salad and put some of the clam meat in my salad. For the pasta salad night I just ate the chicken plain (saved some out for me), and salad. For burgers and hotdogs I ate them without a bun. I ate yogurt also, and made lettuce wrap sandwiches for lunch rather than buy gluten-free bread.
      After we got home I realized that I felt really good. Then the next day we ordered zPizza and I got my usual gluten-free one. The next day I was bloated and feeling icky, but not with gluten symptoms.
      Now I'm back on basically grain-free, although I have eaten fruit -- mostly berries from one of those frozen berry mixes, and mangos.
      Now I need to go do some more reading I think.
