  1. @Judy Lukasik - which brands of toilet paper, paper towels and paper plates have gluten in them??
  2. It does take some getting used to but totally worth the effort!! I got my dx in 2010 and I was the only one in my 'crowd' of friends and family that had to be gluten-free. Now, 2 of my kids, my brother and possibly my dad eat gluten-free. Like moose said (hey, moose! Good to see you Jamie) I make a completely gluten free Thanksgiving, too, and nobody...
  3. how old is she? i know we all think our kids/grandkids don't succumb to peer pressure, but having a different diet is probably tough for her to refuse foods all her friends are enjoying. unsympathetic teachers are no help, i'm sure! maybe find out what her buddies are eating at school and make sure she has similar foods that are gluten-free? you could...
  4. hi, saba, i'm glad you're doing better! i have ear pressure if the wind blows, lolz, if i am in the car, a change in elevation will make my ears go crazy. also, change in barometric pressure (weather changes) and airplanes. try chewing gum? might help with pressure - that's what they tell you to do on the airplane. i know double bubble is gluten-free...
  5. good to see you, dee, and glad you're doing well! my kids were in huge denial that they had a problem with gluten; now they eat gluten free after some weird symptoms. both were blood tested and came up negative, but i suspect they have been 'gluten light' so maybe it just didn't show up. either way, they are doing well on the gfd. your daughter is lucky...
  6. ok, the brand is 'wholly gluten free' - sorry for the mix-up. also, i sent him to buy all of them and somebody already beat us to it. my life is a perpetual scavenger hunt 🙄
  7. lolz, no, it's not pure knead!! honestly, i have so many different brands (of mostly breads) of stuff in the freezer that i mixed that one up!! ha ha also, i threw away the package *but* my brother is going to pick some more up this week so i will get back with the brand. sorry about that!!
  8. my brother picked up some 'pure knead' frozen pizza dough - i thawed it out and added extra flour and rolled it really thin to make a stromboli. i brushed it with egg wash and it turned out fantastic! i see new horizons with this dough, i bet i can make cinnamon rolls, spanakopita, etc as you can tell, i like to play with my food......
  9. if it's at somebody's house, i bring my own meal/snacks or i eat ahead of time. i'm chatty, so i get to yammer on and on while they're eating haha. if it's dinner out, i pick the restaurant. if you don't let me pick the restaurant, i'm not going.
  10. me, too! my body is like: nope, it gets rid of the gluten (noticed this when i ate tortilla chips before confirming that they were fried in a dedicated fryer - they weren't !! ) so, i know i got glutened. but i didn't have the 14 day reaction that i used to have
  11. i agree about the dicyclomine - i have a prescription for it in case of extreme spasms, but i am loathe to take it because there is a whole day lost i could never take it daily.....
  12. one of my church people has celiac and he cheats. i tsk tsk at him all the time, his palms of his hands are dh city, all blistered and cracked, but he won't change his ways. he is an old guy and also skinny as a rail. i worry about him but sometimes all you can do is pray for some people. i bring extra gluten-free stuff for him, like brownies and cookies...
  13. hello! ok, let's not borrow trouble your celiac diagnosis is a blessing in disguise. it will save you from developing so many other (worse!) conditions just by switching your diet. no, most dieticians and doctors do not know a whole lot about celiac - in my opinion, you will get the best advice right here. so, calm down (you sound exactly like my daughter...
  14. as a mom who has passed on her crappy genes to my children, i wouldn't have skipped having them. they are my pride and joy. i'm pretty sure they're happy i had them, lolz, "don't let the good life pass you by"
  15. hey kids, i just thought i'd share a little noodle technique i've accidently discovered looking for something else haha. ya know how when you make rice noodles, the next day they are all 'weird' - hard, yucky and don't taste right, especially if they're in pasta salad or with sauce/leftover? well, so far, so good with the couple different brands of brown...
  16. yes, the generic works just as well - the kroger brand is what i use in the morning. here in the south, it's a Godsend, lolz - there is always something growing most of the year!!
  17. lolz, i kept trying to sneak certified gluten-free oatmeal in there, it was the last to be returned to my diet! as long as it's nature's path or nuts dot com rolled oats (so yum!) i eat canyon bakehouse english muffins with honey, almond butter and pepitas. and their bagels are good for the next day, the plain ones i put cream cheese and pistascios (sp...
  18. i manage my histamine 'overload' dealio by rotating my diet. (it is mast cell activation syndrome) i just don't eat the same thing 2 days in a row, ideally 3 days. i take h1 and h2 receptor suppressors (antihistamine and a benzo) and use cromlyn sodium to pretreat before meals. i can eat pretty much anything i want anymore, including the stuff that used...
  19. some were diagnosed before they met and some were not. my (future) son-in-law is not diagnosed yet but he responds well to my daughter's (she has celiac) gluten-free diet, for example, and he is being treated for anxiety, one of my daughter's symptoms before she went gluten-free. my son and his wife (she has hashi's, he is type 1 diabetic) were both diagnosed...
  20. the enzyme your body uses to digest milk/lactose is made on the tips of your villi. if your villi are damaged, you won't be producing enough to digest it until your villi are healed. many celiacs (me included) have to skip dairy/milk for some time when they are first diagnosed. after about 6 months, i was able to add dairy/milk back into my diet (cheese...
  21. there is a myth (i don't think they've done a conclusive study but i could be wrong lolz) that autoimmune people are naturally attracted to autoimmune people. i know a lot of people who are married and both have autoimmune diseases, so i'm inclined to believe it is true! and, why do GIRLS only get to go on picnics?? lolz!! i always say: if you...
  22. i had gluten withdrawal when i went gluten free. some people do, some do not. i know what withdrawal feels like bc i was a heroin addict a very long time ago. take it day by day, eat clean, and pay attention because you will start feeling better a little at a time, each day a little better. rest (i slept a LOT) and eat small, unprocessed meals. try to...
  23. when i had my endoscopy, the doctor put in her report that she visually saw damage. i was under sedation, so i wouldn't know this if she didn't include it. i was surprised, because my blood tests had all came back negative. so, 10 years later, i am feeling finer than frog hair split four ways that's redneck for 'great' my brother, my daughter...
  24. i also love your attitude of gratitude!! i am 10 plus years into my lifestyle/diet change and i feel fantastic and blessed. i do make my own pasta but i don't use any particular mix/flour. i just wing it - it turns out pretty good every time, but i have made it a lot over the years, so i have had my failures early on i do like to play with my...
