  1. Interesting. I guess it just shows how much misinformation there is out there. This topic in particular, is proving very difficult to know what is true / false and which is out of date. Hmm
  2. I'm not sure how popular this article is, but somebody over at another forum linked me to it. Sorry if it's old news! It give me a wealth of knowledge, that I didn't previously have. Despite tens of hours of reading about Celiacs. It explains what autoimmune disorders are, their possible causes and the links with the gut and even explains why we're sick, from a cellular level. I did post a link, on another thread I made but the thread was about UK Dr's and fear most of you will never read it! haha I've not quite digested it all yet. I'll need to read it a couple of times to fully understand, but it's a very interesting read. It's a huge post, so be warned. But it somehow kept my attention. The article isn't focused on Celiacs but more on autoimmune disorders but it's very apt. Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think. Understanding Autoimmune Diseases
  3. Tonight, I am finally convinced that nightshades, particularly potatoes, are bad for me. The past two times I've eaten them, I've monitored my reaction. Within a few hours I crash, big time. I feel a sudden need to sleep, I put my head down and I'm out. Usually I struggle like hell to sleep. I'm going to avoid nightshades and see how I go.
  4. Thanks guys My current doc is just a GP (general practitioner). He's not mad any referrals and is extremely unlikely to, until I get to the bottom of this myself. Or at least have some good leads. I was talking to a friend last night, who has lupus. She's convinced I do too. Largely because of the massive sensitivity to fluorescent lights I have. As soon as I'm under them, I begin to feel uncomfortable, my eyes get sore and eventually I feel weak and dizzy. My skin gets bothered too and just generally feel disorientated. In sunlight, which I enjoy, I just get wiped out pretty quickly but don't get sore eyes. I've emailed a few local rheumatologists, who I'm hoping will be able to look in to my sickness a little deeper. I also found an article about auto immune disorders, which I found really helpful, you can check it out here: understanding autoimmune diseases. It explained a lot about what's actually going on inside, why we're sick etc. I think between a rheumatologist and a full blood scan, I should be able to make some strides forward.
  5. Hey guys, hope you're all well and excited for Christmas! I'm now 3 months in to my gluten free diet. I'm still suffering with brain fog, terrible fatigue, sore eyes. These are the issues that bother me most, as they're 24/7 and have been for over 15 years and it's really driving me nuts. My Dr sucks, he was reluctant to do any tests. I'm not sure what I was supposed to do, to ensure he understood how desperate I was, short of collapsing on his floor. The only tests he wants to do was Iron and Thyroid. Though the Thyroid tests were merely TSH, which come out at 0.7. I've since learned that, there are various reasons why TSH can be low, and still have low Free T3 and T4. But he said the clinic won't test for the others, as my TSH is normal. Well, I have this nagging feeling, that I have a thyroid issue. I have nearly every symptom and the way I feel, just isn't damn normal and I'm sick and tired of dealing with it. I want to be well and I'm not going to give in, because my Dr is a tit. So, I want to find a reliable, private Dr, in the London area of the UK. But I have no idea where to start. What I really want, is not to even talk to anybody, but have a full blood test, that covers everything and will tell me what I need to know and give me some direction. Any advice, links, suggestions, would be awesome. Thanks a lot guys
  6. I also feel I've been hugely held back by mental issues. I've always had issues with anxiety, brain fog and mental exhaustion. I did fine at school and despite getting good grades, not as good as they should have been. I've always felt, despite being successful, that I'm under achieving due to issues with my mind. I find it near impossible to focus, my brain is so fuzzy and I'm always so incredibly tired. I'm 2 months in to my gluten free lifestyle. I've had a couple of decent days, where I've felt a little better and felt hope. But still struggling like crazy. I hope you start to feel better soon.
  7. Great that your friends enjoy your cooking. Though given the choice, I'd never buy or eat a gluten free alternative. In my experience, they are packed with sugar, to take away the odd tastes of the alternate flours etc. Never tried home baking, as I'm certain it will taste just as bad or be equally as unhealthy. I would however love to try yours!
  8. I would advice you not to concern yourself with CC at this stage. Going gluten free, is enough stress to start with, without adding in extra complications. Avoid gluten, read labels properly, eat healthily. If you randomly get more sick, then maybe consider CC. I don't give a hoot about it right now. I hope I never have to. I don't want to live my life in fear, which is what I consider those who have to worry about CC, are doing. I don't envy them, that's for sure. I'm hoping my sensitivity is much less server.

  10. This is in some ways, a bit of a pointless topic. As I'm not asking for help or offering help. Though maybe it could act as encouragement to those at a similar stage to me. Today, for the first time in AGES, I've had a good day. I feel well enough to work, I'm actually pretty focused and getting stuff done. It feels great. Still tired and certainly not normal, but it's a big step up from where I've been. Strangely, it's come only a couple of days after eating a big mac. Which effected me for a few days but today, I do feel much better than usual. Maybe it give my body some kind of a kick. Who knows. For the first time, in these two months of being gluten free, I've actually felt there's maybe hope for me yet! Thanks to everybody here, for awesome advice and encouragement. I figured it was worth celebrating, so I've even got my santa hat on! haha

  12. No, those were not checked. He didn't check free T3 or T4 either. Nob. That was my experience exactly. I had a little gluten last week and ended up with D and terrible cramp. Since the big mac, I've not been to the toilet. Even after I had a Costa Latte, which usually makes me need the toilet within 10 minutes. Crazy.

  14. Thanks Mushroom, though I feel reluctant to ever go back to the Dr's again. I think I'm going to go private. Iynnelise, you're right. I accidentally eat gluten in a sauce, and within an hour I was in agony and had terrible diarrhoea. I figured eating a whole big mac, would be such a big dose I'd be a lot worse. All so confusing.
  15. Hi Patti, I do. But apparently my B levels and Iron are OK. But I take B vits, Multi vit, Iron, Fish oil, Pro Biotics, digestive enzymes. Googling makes me feel like a hypocondriac. But I was just researching adrenal fatigue. Which I suspected because when my adrenaline kicks in, before a race, exam or whatever, my arms and legs go numb and I feel extremely light headed and almost lose all feeling in my body. It's always felt extremely over reactive. Symptoms are: excessive fatigue and exhaustion non-refreshing sleep (you get sufficient hours of sleep, but wake fatigued) overwhelmed by or unable to cope with stressors feeling rundown or overwhelmed craving salty and sweet foods you feel most energetic in the evening a feeling of not being restored after a full night's sleep or having sleep disturbances low stamina, slow to recover from exercise difficulty concentrating, brain fog Also often have hypoglycemic feelings where I NEED sugar. i go light headed, shake and feel weak. Eating sugar quickly resolves it usually. All of which I experience. Not sure I want to approach my Dr, for tests. As he looks at me like I'm crazy. He somehow doesn't feel the need to get to the bottom of this.
