  1. Gluten Free Indy will be having the 4th annual Indianapolis area gluten-free Pitch-In on June 19th in Carmel, IN from 4 to 7 pm. Please e-mail Jen to rsvp or get more details: jenvanhoozer@hotmail.com This is great event that allows...
  2. Hello everyone!! It is time to start thinking about the Indianapolis, IN Area Gluten-Free Pitch-In! I will be hosting our first community-wide gluten-free pitch-in. It will take place on Saturday, June 9th from 4 to 7pm. We will begin...
  3. ALSO: IGGs are the slowest to rise and to fall in response to gluten and the removal of it from the diet...so if, for example, you are a recovering celiac, your IgA could be normal, but your IgG could still be elevated. It is usually the last to return to normal. My own first set of bloodwork post-gluten-free showed this very phenomenon. SO-how long have...
  4. Jess- Don't worry...that makes perfect sense after an infusion. Mine were higher than yours post infusion and still normal. Most likely, the number will drop and "even out" over the coming months.
  5. Robix- I definitely recommend staying away from products with any of the "grasses"....wheat grass, oat grass, what have you. It is next to impossible to be assured of processing procedures and that gluten containing portions of the plant didn't end up with the "grass" portion. Steer clear of products containing them to be safe.
  6. Neicee- Be careful! Eating even a minute amount gluten occasionally will keep you from healing and keep your rate of cancers, autoimmune diseases and premature death at a very high level. The only way to do the gluten-free diet as a Celiac is zero gluten. Get all the gluten out of your house, out of your desk as work, wherever it may lurk. And as jhmom...
  7. Yes! I developed a new kind of abdominal pain post gluten-free. It lasted for the first 5 mos or so. I was investigate for gall bladder, pancreas issues etc. My doctor thought I might have spincter of oddi dysfunction, but I said I would hold out on the procedure to investigate it and see if the pain diminished. It did eventually, and we never figured...
  8. perhaps they are related to blood sugar or due to food allergies/intolerances?
  9. I have a bottle of lea and perrins (US) and there is no malt in it…it is gluten-free. Weird. Their website (US) says their worst. is suitable for Celiacs
  10. LLRD-- The symptoms you mentioned can definitely be a celiac thing... but people without Celiac can have them as well. I had constipation and bowels similar to you before going gluten-free. It took me several months to get going, but I am much better now. Are you going to get tested or do more research to know if you have Celiac? I recommend everyone...
  11. i started taking q10 recently in hopes of being energized. i have a friend who said it did wonders for him. i think it has given me a slight boost...but still hard to tell at this point. either way, it can't hurt i am taking Natrol brand.
  12. have you had a work up to check for deficiencies such as iron? anemia caused me additional fatigue and symptoms such as chewing ice and restless leg syndrome. i have been gluten-free for 8 mos, and i am still very tired. i actually felt more energized before going gluten-free! the celiac nurse i work with has mentioned that it can take up to 2 years to...
  13. Wandering Hermit-- IMO--the only real 'cure' for hemmorrhoids is to get "regular." I have you tried fiber, changing your diet? I know it can be really difficult to do that...I don't mean to make it sound easy. I had constipation and hemmorrhoids for years...and now after only becoming pretty 'regular' are the hemmorrhoids/irritated skin gone. In...
  14. Reading magazines is okay to do in the bathroom though I think the bathroom is nice because it is one place no one seems to bother you--and you can be alone. Unless you have kids I've heard... or maybe in your case Rachel
  15. Stephanie- No worries...I'm down with the mucous and what not. I've had the orange before too The no pooping policy is strictly enforced by my husband who is heniously grossed-out at the mere thought that I would do such a thing in his presence. Which is funny to me b/c his mom went through this weird phase of colon cleansing where she LITERALLY...
  16. Abby-- Wow, should it be hurting that bad? Is it an abdominal pain or a rectum type pain? (Sorry--rectum is a gross word I go pretty much every morning. Unfortunately we only have one bathroom and the timing works out so that my husband is in the shower when I have to go. We have a strict "no-pooping-in-another's-presence" policy, so I always say...
  17. Okay ya'll-- here is one of the 2 "cream of ___" recipes. I'll post the other asap This one is from Delphi CREAM OF 'WHATEVER' SOUP Most commercial cream soups contain wheat! SOUP BASE: Mix well: 2 cups nonfat dried milk 1/2 cup cornstarch 1/2 cup potato starch 2 Tbs. dried minced onions 1/2 tsp. black pepper Store in the...

  19. Hugh, that's interesting... I've never had full-blown sweats perhaps, but I always get hot at night, while my husband is on the other side with a heated blanket. I don't get hot during the day though...its weird.
  20. I have given up on canned cream of ___ soups. I use Betty Hag's cream of soup recipe. You mix it up, put it in a container and it keeps on the shelf till you need it for a recipe, just add water. You can make it for chicken, mushroom, yadda yadda. I can post if someone wants it...
