Listerine contains alcohol - does anyone know what kind of alcohol, or if there are other ingredients that are gluten-free. I contacted the manufacturer (Pfizer), but they're giving me the line that they can't guarantee the product is gluten-free without actually answering my question! How about Scope or any other mouthwash?

Thanks for the responses everyone! Gluten-free travel isn't thoughtlessly easy, but then what is these days?

I looked at the Bob & Ruth's but I was hoping to get more flexibility by booking something like Club Med myself. I e-mailed Club Med, and they sent me a form letter about food they offer like spaghetti and meatballs! Thanks a lot.

I wonder if there are any resort-type places like that (that offer organized kid activities!) which at least know about and offer choice for gluten-free vacationers!?

Anything other than the Disney experience? I was thinking someplace quieter. Someplace I could sit on the beach and go out for a nice meal and not worry about being sick. Anyone been anywhere like that?

      Anyone Have Any Vacation Recommendations?
I've read and searched this message board, but I didn't find anyone's recommendations about where they would/could go for gluten-free travel. I was diagnosed in March, and really haven't traveled since. I want to go somewhere warm this winter - Florida, Caribbean, someplace to escape the Boston winter. But in addition to the complications of finding the time and a place that my wife and two young daughters want to go to, now I have to find a place that can accomodate the gluten-free diet.

Has anyone taken a vacation to someplace warm where you know that gluten-free food was no problem? If you were me, where would you go (both with and without the children)?

Viola, did any doctor mention anything to you about a correlation between nutrient deficiency caused by celiac disease and your thoracic outlet syndrome? For myself, I'm wondering if a gluten-free diet will allow intestinal healing which will allow me to absorb nutrients (like B12) that are vital to nerves and muscles.

I had a full regiment of physical therapy, and it did very little. They had me working on my posture and stretching and stengthing my muscles, but it only seems midly effective, which is why I was hoping this new diagnosis was somehow related to the thoracic outlet problem (if that's what it is).

How long have you been on the diet? Would you say there is any relationship between your celiac disease and your thoracic outlet syndrome?

      Medical Books On Celiac Disease
I'm looking for a good, informative book on the science of celiac disease - typical symptoms, diagnosis, physiology, treatment, etc. Two books I saw on Amazon that I'm thinking about ordering are:

Celiac Sprue: A Medical Dictionary, Bibliography, And Annotated Research Guide To Internet References - Icon Health Publications; Paperback

The Official Patient's Sourcebook on Celiac Disease: A Revised and Updated Directory for the Internet Age - Icon Health Publications; Paperback

Anyone hear of these? Any other books that jump out? Could even be a chapter in another type of book that deals with medical issues.

Guess How Long I've Had It!
Just got diagnosed via a biopsy which showed "mild damage" to my intestinal villi. Doctor was 100% positive I had celiac disease. Kind of back-doored into the diagnosis because the GI Dr. was really checking my esophogus for GERD that I've had for 7 years or so, and decided while she was down there to peek around. I had the blood test on Thursday (no results yet), and just started the diet!

So I've lost 15 pounds in the last 6 months (pretty stable before then), and developed upper back pain 15 months ago that hasn't gone away despite a chiropractor and physical therapy - they said I had thoracic outlet syndrome, which is when your nerves are compressed in your shoulders and your arms fall asleep all the time - similar in symptoms to carpel tunnel, but not in physiology.

Won't see the doctor again until May, at which time I'll have the answer (or better, her guess). Given this history, what's your guess as to how long I've had active celiac disease?!!! Best guess wins...!

Also, any thoughts on the relation between celiac disease and my back and shoulder problems and/or GERD would be much appreciated!
