Need Help With What To Feed Toddler
My son (18 months old) has not been diagnosed with celiac disease (I have though), but he does have a wheat allergy. Plus he's allergic to eggs, pecans and now may be lactose or fructose intolerant. He also had a liver transplant when he was a month old and that has slowed his eating progress. He used to gag on more solid foods, but is doing better now. He also has to have his liquids thickened or else they go into his lungs.

I have never been good with food. I never know what to feed myself and I end up eating the same stuff over and over again. Now I'm having issues knowing what to feed him. He was liking mac n'cheese, but now he can't have milk.

So, I'd be grateful to have ideas for what to feed him. It needs to be wheat free, eggs free and lactose free.

      Thanks for any help!

      Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark
Trying to figure out if it's gluten free. The info on their site isn't very helpful. It only talks about soy and milk as allergens. Here's the ingredients list:

sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, unsweetened chocolate, nonfat dry milk, soy lecithin, corn flakes, yellow corn flour, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed, soybean), natural and artificial flavor, corn starch, vanilla, red #40 lake, corn syrup solids.

I'm mainly worried about the natural flavor.

Need Dip For Veggies That's Is gluten-free And Dairy Free
I'm having a party on Saturday and my cousin is eating gluten free and dairy free. Does anybody have any ideas for something she can dip veggies into that meets both those requirements?

The one on South Hill didn't come up when I asked for gluten free locations, but I knew they offered it due to info from friends. So, I'm not sure how up to date their gluten free locations are on the web page.

I went to the Garlic Jim's on South Hill this past Sunday and got the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza. It was really yummy!! I would recommend it. I saved the leftovers and it was gone in less than a day (with just me eating it). It's one of those pizzas that tasted even better as a leftover. The crust was really thin, but good. It was kind of spendy, $18.99+tax for a medium. But I would tell any celiac who misses pizza to try it. If you go to their website they have a gluten free menu.

I don't know where you live exactly, but have you been to Haley's Corner Bakery in Kent? They have gluten-free pizza and yummy goodies. It is exclusively gluten-free, so no worries about cc.

The Garlic Jim's on South Hill just started doing this and the one in Lakewood has for a while. I personally haven't had one, but I guess they all go through training about cc and have someone come in from GIG to help with training. They supposedly prepare them in a separate room from regular pizzas.

Another good place for gluten-free stuff is Organic Comfort Foods in downtown Puyallup. They use Haleys' bread to make sandwiches and they will try to have a gluten-free casserole on hand. I had a "Nikki's sandwich" on gluten-free bread and it was pretty yummy. I think they said all their salad dressings are gluten-free too.

Does Anybody Else Have This Weird Issue With Wheat?
I have this weird mental issue regarding wheat as a decoration. Being that it's fall and I'm shopping for decorations, they have those cute little wheat stalks. And I like the way they look. But I can't help thinking they are "evil" and I can't bring myself to buy them like I'm somehow being untrue to my celiac self. (Although I know they would cause me no harm just sitting there.)

      Does anybody have this problem?

We just got back from Maui and here was my experience.

The waitstaff down there seem to know more than the average, probably because they get a wide variety of people and more celiacs than most places. All of these places are in Lahaina.

      Cheeseburger in Paradise.
The waitress said their fries were not gluten-free, so I just got a bacon cheeseburger, no bun. It was pretty yummy.

      Lahaina Fish Company.
The waiter here was extremely helpful, checked with the chef on things I had questions on. I had the monchong fish with salsa, it was really good, but this place was pretty spendy.

      The Outback.
Same experience that you'll get on the mainland. The waitstaff isn't that knowledgable, but they have the gluten-free menu, which is nice.

      Maui Tacos.
I e-mailed them ahead of time, I can't quote exactly what they said, but basically everything is gluten-free but the flour tortillas and enchilada sauce. I didn't have a problem with the food, but some of my non-celiac family members had some belly issues. Kind of ironic.

      Tony Romas.
Same as the mainland, they said in an e-mail that their bbq sauces, chicken and ribs are gluten-free. Yummy, ribs!

I went to Down to Earth food store and got my basic staples, like Pamela's cookies, Peanut Butter Panda Puffs and Amy's gluten-free mac n'cheese. They also have larabars. They were a lifesaver, because I packed a bunch of gluten-free food, but I still didn't have enough.

Basically, the final verdict is that Maui is a pretty easy place to eat gluten-free. If you have the opportunity to go there, take it. It was beautiful and an unforgettable experience. I want to go back!!

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is a few blocks from there and it's supposed to be really good. I've never been there, I don't actually go up to Seattle a lot, but I've heard other gluten-free people say that they are helpful and the food is pretty simple and made from scratch, so they know what's going in it. Have fun on your cruise!

The pet foods that I've seen that are not this way are expensive.

We just got back, I had a pretty good experience. They didn't have a dedicated fryer, so I didn't get to eat the fries. Gf4life-Is their seasoning not okay? I thought it was. The girl did pretty good, the manager didn't come see me though, that's okay I guess. I just got a lettuce wrapped burger, it was good. I just like being able to go out to eat with everyone else.

The link did work for me, thanks. It's great when people share there good experiences as well as bad, so we can know where to go. The list you posted from the e-mail will help me a lot to pick what is safe. So, do I understand correctly that their fries are safe, if in a dedicated fryer, and what bothered your stomach was the soy in the oil?
