  1. Welcome Fairydust! Wow, sounds like you have a lot going on... but you have taken the all important first step and started the process by making that appointment with your doctor. Going gluten free is a process that can be as difficult or as easy as you choose to make it in a lot of respects, but the advice given by rosetapper is good - a diet of natural unprocessed foods in the beginning can make it all easier. There is heaps of advice on these forums on the ways to make your life gluten free - and it's given by people much more knowledgable than me so I shall stop here and simply say... Welcome to the journey. Wishing you health and happiness.
  2. Dogs can be so naughty! I had a spoodle (spaniel poodle cross) who would take food out of your hand while you weren't looking. But she was so gentle that often you didn't notice! She'd also eat off a fork. She had a particular hatred of my cellphone though. One day I left it at home and the alarm on it went off (and kept going off). She managed to get it from the table, give it a jolly good chewing, and the bury it under a tree. Fortunately she didn't chew it enough to stop it working and I managed to find it by calling it... but... grrrr
  3. Finally Taking The Plunge

    Wow, that's a major decision Sara... and well done you and your family for making it. It's hard to factor in the increased costs of some of the foods that you will need to change over, but keep at it. Your family will get used to the change in diet and soon those things that are so expensive to buy gluten free will be gone from your regular rotation and it will not be an issue at all. NZers are also not the couponers that those in the US seem to be... if we get a coupon it's for full priced items only and you can't combine it with specials or sales or use multiple coupons Wishing you good luck in your ongoing quest for improved health.

    Breakfast is whatever you eat at the start of the day... and yours actually contained a breakfast cereal... sounds perfect to me! After only 2 hours sleep last night I kicked the day off with some home made chocolate pudding (the custard variety) made with 72% cocoa solids chocolate and lashings of cocoa... a little goes a looooong way
  5. But Jaffas are delicious Mushroom... I got the spoons from a place in Auckland but figure they must be available the world over... hang on a tick... Found them on Amazon... the company name is Think Bamboo and the spoon you are looking for is the B20, but the B19 is the same thing without the hole.
  6. Quinoa for breakfast, lunch and dinner... so many applications! Also juiced beetroot with pineapple and lemon... mmmmm. I was always a pretty equal opportunity eater so there's nothing too new though.
  7. Lol Mushroom. I'm the opposite... lots of filling for the cups, not a lot of ribcage on which to rest 'em... if the band size starts with 12 or 14 (34 or 36 in old money) then it often doesn't quite go high enough up the alphabet The very, very best fitter I've ever met is in a little shop in Howick - she's the absolute business and won't let you purchase anything that doesn't absolutely fit perfectly... hmmm... I can feel an expedition coming on.
  8. Meltdown!

    Everyone has their moments. I've been gluten free for over 2 years and I STILL have the occasional meltdown, complete with tears! It can be set off by the silliest things! But keeping a sense of humour is a very helpful weapon, regardless of what you are eating (or not eating). I'm lucky to be able to laugh at myself and remind myself of just how much better I feel by not eating it even if I'd gladly have sold my shirt to have it just 3 minutes earlier. Meantime I'm reminded daily of all the things I can have, and all the things I can now do, that were not on my radar when I was still eating gluten. Chin up (or chins in my case) and remember - it's only a moment in time - and without gluten you will have lots more great moments to look forward to. xx K
  9. I'm So Happy!

    Wow Poppi! That's a fantastic achievement. My aim this year is a couple of days on the mountain skiing. I wasn't much of a skier before dx and going gluten free - perhaps this will be the magic bullet that allows me to do double black diamond runs with ease?? But seriously - to have put the effort into the healing and to be reaping the rewards you so clearly are reaping - that's magnificent and such an inspiration.

Yep, I'm in Auckland, but don't hold that against me Bra shopping... there is a subject dear to my heart... ladies - proper fitting makes all the difference in the world - I've been known to stop people in the street and let them know why their bra is not fitting properly Back fat is NOT PRETTY! West Aucklanders make POW look quite refined don't you know! And please don't behave on my account... I have plenty of naughty in me!
