I have been wondering for a while and havent been able to find the answer anywhere: if one is predisposed to celiac disease, is damage being done before symptoms are present or does the damage to the small intestine begin once symptoms occur? For example: I ate gluten normally for 20 years and was then exposed to my trigger event, only after did I have symptoms. was my diet for those 20 years doing damage to my intestine or only after the disease was "triggered." Just wondering

  3. Hi everyone! I have been taking Culturelle probiotics ever since I was diagnosed. I recently came across a $10 off coupon for Align probiotics, and having to eat gluten free I'll take any coupon I can get : ) I was just wondering if anyone has taken both brands, and if they differ at all? I don't have any problems with Culturelle, and I don't want to waste my money on Align if they aren't any good. But I have heard good things about them and I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts. Thanks <3

    Chipotle's is awesome for gluten free food (you have to get the bowl), and they have vegetarian options as well. I think they have many locations all over the country. It is one of my favorite go-to restaurants.

  6. Mellow Mushroom Restuarant

    i always go to mellow mushroom for gluten free pizza! i have been to several locations, and i have never had a problem with cross contamination or anything really. the crust is awesome, and actually crispy and doesnt fall apart. i would definitely recommend it!

    Chic-fil-a has gluten free fries! They have separate fryers for breaded chicken. Love those fries : )

    Yes, I did some research and read a few research articles on the interaction of DPP-IV and ASP. The results looked promising... maybe But thanks for the info! Sounds like the extra enzymes cant hurt.

    Hmm, thanks everyone for your replies! I think I am probably just going to stick with my usual digestive enzymes, and not go with the "gluten specific" ones. Symptoms give me another incentive to avoid gluten at all costs anyways

    ok, thanks for breaking it down like that. yeah, i guess digesting gluten and reacting to gluten are two totally different things haha. i do take a pretty heavy duty digestive enzyme with my meals already, so im not sure how much this one would help on top of those...
  12. I was thinking about purchasing the Vitacost Gluten Enzyme DG Biocore DPP IV. The link to the product is here: I am thinking taking these enzymes would help limit my reaction from hidden gluten or cross-contamination when I eat out at restaurants. Before buying them, I was wondering if anyone had any experience using them, or a similar product? Are these enzymes actually going to do anything? Is there another product you would recommend instead? Thanks!
  13. Thank you everyone for your input, you have helped so much! I am going to take the probiotics 2 hours after the antibiotics (I am taking the anti's at 12:30 pm/am and staying up until 2:30 am is late enough for me haha), and we will see if that helps. And I will definitely try the banana too, great idea!
  14. Fructose Malabsorption

    What I have done is just cut a lot of sugar out of my diet, especially refined sugar. That has seemed to help my bloating so much! Also, stress was a huge factor. Unfortunately, the digestive tract is connected to the nervous system and when we get stressed our intestines and stomach take a hit. I dont think there is one finite answer to our problems, we just have to experiment and see what works...
  15. So, I was started on antibiotics for a bacterial infection yesterday. I was unhappy to learn that I needed to go on antibiotics because, as we all know, they kill the good bacteria that us celiacs have worked so hard to build up in our intestines. I usually take one Culturelle a day, but with the antibiotic I have decided to take two probiotic pills a day. Right now I am taking them at the same time as I take the two antibiotic pills (12 hours apart). I was wondering if there is anyone has some different ideas for what else I can be doing to help save my intestinal bacteria (like taking the probiotics at a different time than the antibiotics, taking more probiotics...)? I have to be on the antibiotics for two weeks... poor intestinal bacteria : (
