  1. Is the peanut butter from your pre gluten free days and maybe cross contaminated?
  2. A lady I work with just discovered the same thing. She too was gluten free but continued to be sick, then a year or so ago nausea was added to her symptoms and a new doctor ran genetic testing and found the same thing. She is doing very well on her new diet and has added some gluten in but very little because she still feels better without it in her diet.
  3. In case you are ever in the Orlando area the Kona Café in the Polynesian resort has WONDERFUL gluten free waffles. They also have pancakes and French toast as well, I just haven't made it past the waffles. I am sure they are sold on all the Disney properties serving breakfast, but I can go to the Polynesian without entering a park and without staying there so it is the only place I have had them there.
  4. My feet started burning after a few years gluten free. Mainly at night, and I mean on fire! I asked my Endocrinologist about it at my next visit and knowing that I did not have Diabetes, he said it was most likely B12 deficiency. Ran tests and it was, I started injections and 3 years later I am in the normal range I no longer have this issue.
  5. We have purchased an fresh Amish turkey from one of our local meat markets for many years, before I was ever gluten free. They cost probably double the price per pound and the first year my parents thought we were nuts, until they tried it. Then they asked if we could get one for Christmas. They are fresh and raised cage free and the "old fashion way" not force feed to be fat over night and it makes all the difference in the world in the taste. I live it Florida they come from PA so they arrive the Monday before Thanksgiving but I have already placed my order for the sizes I need.
  6. We travel a lot and we eat out while traveling. If we are in the US I will take some snacks depending on how we are traveling, car or plane. Then I shop local for snack type foods, if we have a kitchen or kitchenette we will make breakfast in the room, but after that we are on the run so I do TONS of research. Tripadvisor is my friend. I look up places to eat, then look at the menu's online then email the restaurant and ask all my questions. Or if they don't have a gluten free menu I will take something on the menu I think would be gluten free and ask specifically about that item and all my questions. I print those emails and menus and take them with me, they stay in my car so they are handy. We also travel outside the US often and that is trickier....I take a lot of snacks and usually my bread since the ingredients in other countries are often in another language. But as far as restaurants I again do a lot of research on tripadvisor, and a lot of emailing, it often limits me to the finer dining places only and I would love to try out a dive here and there, but they don't always have menu's online or even a webpage so that makes them impossible to contact and ask the right questions. I have still walked out of a place when I didn't feel like I was getting the right answers even after I emailed them, but it has only happened once, and I also have only been glutened twice. Once when I first started and didn't walk out when I should have (even though I had an email) A lot of people will recommend the App "Find Me Gluten Free" and I do use it, but more often than not it tells me the big chains that I am already aware.
  7. You guys are braver than I am This one is more brown Ravenswoodglass, and super thin. I just had never encountered one in any of the bags I have eaten. I am just to chicken to try it although I have eaten half the bag since I bought it and it hasn't made me sick, so if it was a gluten filled one it probably would have happened already.
  8. Today while eating these at work I found a small thin pretzel in the bag with the normally wider pretzels. It clearly looked like a old fashion thin stick pretzel. I immediately went online and emailed Snyders of Hanover and asked if their certified gluten free pretzels are made on a dedicated line. Here is my response: "The gluten free pretzels are actually not produced on a dedicated line however we do have a very stringent allergen program in place. I will forward all this information to our Quality Assurance Dept. for review. It may have been a defect in the manufacturing process" Obviously I didn't eat this one nor did I finish the bag, but I purchased two bags at the same time and I asked my hubby to open the bag at home and pour it out and he found several of these small ones. These are a favorite snack for work, I am really bummed and don't know if I will risk buying these again. I have a picture but am not sure how to post the picture.
  9. Sorry I never came back and replied. We had a very successful cruise. I never did get to try the deli station, and the manager was extremely helpful showing me items that were safe and getting me set up for the first night to insure I had gluten free dinner. I ate breakfast in the main dining area several days, but some days it was just impossible to get in there and off the boat in time for excursions, so I ate at the buffet, they always had a gluten free bread at the buffet, which I didn't try but it was the same I had for dinner those nights. It was made from Polenta....weird I know, but it was pretty darn good. Anyway the breakfast buffet had hard boiled eggs that were not peeled and fruit and yogurt and cottage cheese....a omelet station that only made omelets, so the risk there was minimal. Lunch we were either not on the boat or just not that hungry so I only had the taco station, I would take my own bowl and everything they had there was gluten free if not in the soft shell. Worked perfect for me. Dinners - since I seen the menu the night before I offered to "sell" the list to my fellow table mates, no one took me up on it, but we did get a good laugh. Only once did they come back and tell me what I choose they could not do gluten free and it was a dessert, everything else was no problem and everything was very good.
  10. I started out weekly for 8 weeks then monthly and have been doing that for 2 years. My B-12 was 192 when I started and with last blood work almost 6 months ago I am barely 400. I can tell when I am due my shot by my body not a calendar, and would love to go to every two weeks, but my dr will not let me. I did take a 6 month break to see if my body could maintain my B12 and it could not. My only piece of advise is whatever you do DO NOT have your blood drawn close after just getting your B12 shot, do it a few days prior to receiving it. It will skew your numbers if you have a new shot in your system.
  11. We travel a lot, and this is something we really enjoy. When I was diagnosed I didn’t want this disease to define me and or control my life and I decided then I would not change this aspect of my life. In fact I was diagnosed in August/September and had a vacation booked for October. In all my trips I have been glutened once. That first October trip. Here is what I do, this works for me, but everything is a personal choice for everyone, so someone else may not do it this way. I go online to Tripadvisor and Find Me gluten free and google “gluten free in *Ussomewhere*” then I look at their menus online. I contact everyone I am interested in via email and specifically ask at that time if the “Chicken and rice” or whatever I think I would like is gluten free and then more specific questions about preparation area and things. I then print those and carry them with me on my trip, now I have choices, I know who and where around the area and I ask to speak to the person who sent me the email. This has worked for me all over the US as well as Aruba, but I have not been anywhere else. Only once have I done all that and then when I arrived the person on the email wasn’t there and the manager on duty was CLUELESS. Told me to just avoid pasta and bread….I did get up and leave that restaurant.
  12. While out of town I went to a restaurant I had researched online to not only have gluten free options but good comments from people who had eaten gluten free there. When we entered I asked for a gluten free menu, the hostess told me the manager would come to our table. Great! Until she got there, she asked if I had anything other than gluten I could not eat, then proceeded to tell me I could not have the pasta dishes, anything breaded, any of the their bread items or any fried items.....duh???? Guess she though I said this was my first day gluten free??????? She could not answer any of the questions I had about other items on the menu, like the seasoning on the steak, or the salad dressings. Needless to say we left.
  13. Thank you so much! This information will really help. We just returned from a very successful week in Branson MO. But restaurants are easy to research, cruising is different. I am excited. I will report back on the sandwich station after I return.
  14. Thank you for taking the time to post this, I leave on Carnival Valor in 2 weeks, and never would have thought about the deli or the Lido deck buffet. Awesome info and now I know to ask for a manager for the buffet. What did you do the first night? Everything I see online and speaking with Carnival they just tell me to let them know the first night, which makes me wonder what I eat the first night (since I can't prepick my meal prior to departure)

I just returned from flying both flights had early departures and thanks to airline changes long layovers here are some things I took: I froze cheese sticks and they were my "ice pack" for my insulated soft cooler Hard boiled egg I had peeled the night before Small bags of Smartpop Popcorn Kind Bars Chex Mix Granola. gluten-free Trail mix I saw a lady with three small children traveling, she had brought sliced apples and oranges. Due to the long layovers I was able to explore the airports, all had fresh fruit, lara bars, kind bars, caveman bars, and or course chips and candy that were all gluten free. Only one airport was a large international airport the others were small regional and they had these items too, so I was surprised.
