  1. Thank you for the replies! I like the idea of getting mini fridge, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I don't want to miss out on such an experience because of Celiac, it is just scary thinking that one slip up could ruin my trip. I am getting more and more used to explaining my needs at restaurants so hopefully by this summer I'll be a pro I love fish so I'm sure I will indulge in Hawaii! I'm not sure yet the details of where we will be, but once I do, I will post them here - restaurant recommendations would be great! It is really nice to know that most hotels do have knowledge of Celiac and I will definitely purchase some gluten free soy sauce when I get there. That's a great idea to add some flavor to steamed veggies. Thanks again!!

  3. I received my celiac diagnosis in early December, and have been gluten free since, but I am still experiencing some symptoms. When I went back to my gi doctor in January, she said that it is probably just taking some time for my intestines to heal. I go back in March, but have not had much relief of my digestive symptoms. I am still experiencing loose stools and nausea. I have read a lot about probiotics and they can be helpful in the intestinal healing. I plan on asking my doctor to recommend a probiotic, but was wondering if anyone else can recommend a good one for celiac disease. Thanks!
  4. I am planning on taking a trip to Hawaii this summer for a friend's wedding. At first I said there's no way I can go - what would I eat!? But I don't want to let my celiac keep me from living life. Eating out so much will be difficult as I get anxiety every time I eat out at restaurants in my area that offer gluten free options, so a new area is going to be even tougher. I am considering just bringing some of my own food. Can anyone give advice on traveling and any tips and tricks they have? Thanks
  5. I went to an all inclusive in the Mexico this past summer, this was before my diagnosis but I knew that something was wrong with me prior to traveling. I got MUCH worse at the all inclusive. I was getting sick every night. Mid way through the trip I kept to fruit and mostly salads but did not get any relief. I'm pretty confident looking back that it was from gluten. I think most things contained gluten, and if they didn't, they were cross contaminated. I don't think I will ever do an all inclusive again. The cost of an all inclusive is great for all that you get, but it is not worth feeling that way on your vacation. Good luck!
  6. krystynycole - I'm so sorry to hear you are in pain. Luckily, in the past two months of being gluten free, my energy levels have increased and I am able to hit the gym without much pain. Good luck to you! BarryC - I too am noticing my belly is a little flatter. What I don't get is that the weight is the same. I am only 23, so was hoping this wouldn't be too hard. I do go to the gym, and do a lot of strength exercises, including my core. eatmeat4good - THANK YOU for your advice. Your story sounds very similar to mine. I'm a bit bigger, 5'4" and before Celiac was a muscular 125 lbs. The weight kept coming on for no reason. I first had my thyroid tested over a year ago, and sure enough, Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I've heard that going gluten free can help hashimoto's as well, but I have never heard of someone being able to be off their meds because of it! I would LOVE to get there some day too. I'm not a big fan of taking prescription meds for the rest of my life. It's only been two months for me, so I am really hoping that I will start seeing a difference soon. I eat healthy and work out but the weight will not budge. So I am assuming that I am still in the healing stages. I've heard about the Paleo diet. I would really like to not have to resort to this, as I am not sure this is something I could do for life. But thank you for the info, I have looked into it and will probably start eliminating more grains if I don't see a difference soon. Thanks again
  7. I am new to the gluten free world. I received my Celiac diagnosis in December. I have been gluten free since the biopsy, as my doctor said he could see the damaged just from the endoscopy. The biopsy confirmed. My whole life, I have been very fit. Starting a few years ago (assuming when the Celiac started), I started gaining weight for no reason. I had not made any changes in my life, and the weight just kept creeping up. I wasn't worried at first, because putting on the first ten pounds didn't bother me. I am now 50 lbs over my ideal weight. I had hoped that since going gluten free, it would be easier to lose the weight. I have noticed an increase in energy, and so have been exercising regularly, including cardio and strength training about 4 times a week. Since going gluten free, I have been eating healthier as well. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, lean meats, and stay away from sweets. I do eat some gluten free substitutes, but only about once a week. For example, I'll have gluten free pasta for dinner one night a week. Since going gluten free, I have gained about 4 more pounds. I am so frustrated with it all. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, however, my levels have been good. I know that a lot of undiagnosed Celiac are underweight and so gain weight with going gluten free. While others are overweight before diagnosis. Those of you who were overweight, when did you start seeing a weight lose, if any. And how hard did you have to work for it? I know for me, it's only been 2 months, but I'm curious with others results. I have been trying really hard, and seeing the scale keep going up, is really discouraging.

  9. Hi all, Any insight or help would be appreciated! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis last December. My latest blood test showed my numbers for my hypothyroidism to finally be in range. I have been having some stomach problems since March. This includes stomach pain, loose stool, gas, bloating, and nausea. After reading there can be a connection between Hashimoto's and Celiac Disease, and given my recent stomach problems, I recently asked my primary to run the blood test for Celiacs. These are my results: Tissue Translutaminase AB (IGA) - 7 <5 negative 5-8 equivocal >8 positive Gliadin Antibody (IGA) - 11 <11 negative 11-17 equivocal >17 positive My primary suggested I see a gastroenterologist but my appointment isn't for over a month. I am just wondering what to expect from my visit. My blood test results are equivocal and I am not exactly sure what that means? I've read that Hashimoto's and Celiac Disease can run hand in hand but I have also read that having any autoimmune disorder can increase levels of TTG. Could my increased levels just be a result of my Hashimoto's? I plan on trying a gluten free diet after seeing the gastroenterologist, regardless if I get diagnosed or not to see if that will help any. Any information or insight on my "equivocal" results in the mean time would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
