      Joint Problems
      Hi all,
I am a mom to 2 teenage sons who are both Celiacs. My oldest gets violently ill when he gets gluten. But my 17 year old was first diagnosed with Celiac when we found out he had gout (at 15 years old.) My question is this:

His knee has been huge swollen for a good 9 months, he is very athletic, so we have gone through all of the normal doctors trying to figure out if there is an injury to his knee. We have been to two doctors and a sports physical therapist and none of them know what is going on. He has had it drained 3 times, with up to 164 cc's of fluid being taken out only for it to come back within about 10 hours.

They have done MRI's, xrays, arthritis screenings twice which have both come back clean. The second time they did the screenings, they screened again for gout and found it negative. We have an appointment with a rheumatologist in May. (Both the general doctor and the orthopeadic have referred us to this doctor.)

Has anyone ever seen this with their Celiac? He is on a strict gluten-free diet but as he is 17, he has fessed up to eating one or two things every now and then that is not gluten-free. However, he has been very sure that everything is gluten-free for about the last 3 months.

Thanks for anything you can give me,
