    Thanks for the perspective. I think I was hoping for an Open & Shut, Black & White, Aha! answer but instead I've got an Ajar, Gray, Huh? answer.
  2. I've been gluten free for about six weeks (for the most part but I've made some mistakes) and I'm still have lots of bathroom issues. Reviewing what I've eaten it seems that tomatoes and potatoes are causing me to have diarrhea within an hour of eating them. So I'll be giving up those for a while now, too. I'm not sure I'm ever going to get this all figured out. But I can now spell diarrhea without the use of a spellchecker. Whoohoo.
  3. Speaking of tests, this is what I have. Where these enough tests to have had done? Everything looks pretty negative to me. IGA, Serum Result: 270 (Normal 81-463) Gliadin(deamidated, Ab, (Iga) Result: 3 (< 20 antibody not detected) Tissue Transglutaminase AB IGA Result: <3 (<5 negative)
  4. My celiac test came back negative. I haven't had any pasta so haven't needed the strainer. I have been using the same toaster rather than getting a new one though I do have my own butter and clearly marked it as "gluten-free!". I think I'll stay away from my gluten-free toast for a while. Thanks for your insight!
  5. I went to lunch at Bertucci's today and ordered off their gluten free menu. Sausage soup and Caesar salad. Had a bad case of D about 30 minutes after I was done eating. What am I doing wrong? Maybe it's not a gluten intolerance after all?
  6. I've been on a gluten free diet for about a month now. There have been a couple of mistakes made, I freely admit. I've been seeing some slight improvement in my D, which is really the main thing I was interested in clearing up. (I also have rosacea, fatigue, acne, Hoshimoto's). The past few days, I've only been going to the bathroom 2-3 times a day and things have...firmed up a bit. Yesterday, my DH brought home Vietnamese Pho for lunch. He checked with the owner of the place to make sure the noodles in the soup and rice paper on the spring rolls was gluten free. 45 minutes after eating, I had diarrhea. (a one time event) Had a head smacking realization that the peanut dipping sauce for the spring rolls contains soy sauce. (Like I said, mistakes are being made) For dinner last night I had a salad and I used salad dressing with soy sauce and threw extra wheat containing soy sauce on top for good measure. I wanted to be able to say, "Aha! - I am gluten intolerant!". But of course nothing happened. I'm sticking gluten-free for now but I'm tempted to eat a big fat gluten filled something if I can ever get 2-3 days in a row with somewhat normal bathroom habits. I just want to KNOW.
  7. I had a blood test last month for Celiac Disease and it came back negative. I've decided, based on having Hashimoto's, that I was going to try going gluten free for a while to see if it improved my health. (fatigue, 6+ loose BM's a day, Rosacea being my main complaints). After a couple of weeks, I thought I was starting to see an improvement. Now, for the past few days I've been in the bathroom once an hour with loose, very pale stools, and am feeling quite tired all the time. The only thing I can think of is I helped my daughter make 72 mini cupcakes a few days ago. I didn't eat any of them or lick my fingers or anything, but I was reading that inhaling gluten can be an issue for someone with celiac disease. But could it also cause problems if I only have a gluten intolerance? I feel like I'm grasping at straws, but I want to be able to pinpoint why my symptoms have come back when I'm trying to be so careful with my diet.
  8. I went to my GI Dr. to schedule a routine colonoscopy (family history) and based on our conversation about my bathroom habits, she decided to run a Celiac Panel. She also ran an Adult Food Allergy test and gave me a take-home Hydrogen Breath Test for Lactose intolerance. I had the blood drawn on the 12th and am still waiting to hear back. My symptoms/issues are: Hashimoto's Rosacea Soft BM's 6+ times a day Fatigue The fatigue is what I really want to ditch. I hate being tired all the time. I've always blamed it on my Hashimoto's, but my lab numbers are in the ok range. I did a "milk intolerance test" this morning. Basically drank a glass of milk first thing on an empty stomach and it gave me the runs. I still have to perform the full breath test but it looks pretty clear that lactose and I are not on friendly terms. Whatever my test results say, I'm going to give up gluten and see how it makes me feel. I haven't done so yet just in case I need to schedule for a biopsy and thanks to reading this board, I see I need to be on gluten for that to be an accurate test. Thanks for reading - I just needed to get this out of my head and down on "paper".
