For me, Ranitidine (generic for Zantac) 150mg and colloidal silver sprayed on the rash helped reduce the itching and the silver also reduced my blisters (or, more accurately, my blisters reduced in size and discomfort every time I sprayed them with the colloidal silver; I find no research indicating this is the result I should have gotten, but this is my personal experience).

I haven't found research on the silver related to DH, but I tried it on a whim out of desperation. Taken orally for a long period of time or in large quantities, silver can cause Argyria, a condition of excess silver in the body that turns the user's skin blue or gray. My research did not turn up incidents of Argyria in patients using silver topically. Silver, in the form of silver nitrite, is still required by law in most states as an eye drop to prevent eye infection in newborns and silver's effectiveness as an eye drop to treat conjunctivitis is documented to some extent. I came to the conclusion, for myself, that it is not likely to hurt used topically so long as I don't overdo it. Keep in mind that a lot of claims about the "miracles" of silver floating around on the internet are not backed by research.

Sometimes it's in the doc's head. I once had a pediatrician go on and on about how my son would need tubes in his ears because of some fluid that dripped out when I laid him on the examining table. I patiently listened to him until he was finished and then politely pointed out that the fluid was a bit of breast milk that had dripped down my son's cheek because he's a bit of a sloppy eater.

My doc has finally gotten frustrated with the recurring debilitating blistering rashes I have had for two years now. I asked, "could it be something autoimmune?", but she just answered, "you just have very sensitive skin".

      What Kind Of Doc?
I have been to my primary care physician, the emergency clinic, and an immunologist/allergist. I have had lots of diagnoses over the years, but have had terrible blistering rashes for the last two years that were initially diagnosed as MRSA (came back negative) and then as contact dermatitis. My doctors have given up on me and simply settled for "extremely sensitive skin", which is not a satisfactory answer. I scheduled an appointment with a dermapathologist, but she cannot see me until December and I am so miserable now that I cannot even walk without extreme pain.

A friend who has celiac recommended I look into it and I believe this is my answer. I left a message for my doctor requesting a scrip for dapsone to see if that will provide me any relief. I have had a negative blood test for celiac, but I have IgA deficiency, which increases my risk and the symptoms I have been suffering for years that have been diagnosed as one thing or another fit to a T.

So what now? These doctors have failed me. What kind of doctor do I go to to determine whether I have celiac? Is dapsone for the DH and a change of diet our only options or is there a type of doctor who would have other treatment options for this disease?

A friend of mine sent me colloidal silver to try topically (in a little spray bottle). I find that it reduces the blisters very well and reduces discomfort slightly, but not much else. I don't find any research on the matter and this is just my personal experience.

Regarding the sun, there are several companies that make sunblock clothing. I have a long-sleeve wrap designed for summer wear and a hat that are both sunblock rated and I find those help.
