      Wow! Good to know. I do have a coffee grinder at home and like to grind my own beans because it tastes much better, but the coffee at my work place is pre-ground. I'm trying to avoid coffee altogether for a couple weeks until my stomach stops hating me.

      Does It Get Worse Before It Gets Better?
      I had a blood test come back positive for celiac, though the endoscopy came back negative. I gave up gluten a few weeks ago and am temporarily giving up a lot of other stuff elimination diet style (no dairy, soy, grains, etc) just to see if anything else is causing irritation. I've been cooking everything at home, buying whole food ingredients, taking probiotics, cleaning up in the kitchen better, and watching labels like a hawk. The problem is that my stomach is feeling worse than it did before I gave up gluten. I seem to cramp up after nearly every single meal and am waking up in the middle of the night with stomach pain. 
      I know everyone's experience of giving up gluten is different, but I'm feeling a little discouraged after reading so many stories of people who said their symptoms cleared up almost immediately. Is it possible for things to get worse before they get better on a gluten-free diet? Did any of you have to wait a long time before feeling stomach pain relief?

      Gemini, you are the second person today to caution me against the cross-reactivity theory, so I am going to calm way the hell down and hope that you're right. Thanks for the much needed dose of realism/optimism. 
      Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to heal on a gluten-free diet? I've only been off gluten for a month, so maybe I'm being massively impatient, but I'm really tired of always having stomach pain.

      Please Don't Let It Be Coffee
      I recently tested positive on a celiac blood test but negative on a GI biopsy. I went on a gluten-free diet for 2 weeks before consulting a nutritionist and then decided to try an elimination diet (no corn, soy, eggs, legumes dairy, yeast, nightshade veggies, alcohol, added sugar, or of course, gluten) with a hefty dose of daily probiotics. She would have preferred that I give up caffeine as well, but that was the one food I have found nearly impossible to give up.
      The trouble is, I find that on days where I do have a cup of coffee, I'm getting the same bad digestive symptoms I had when I was on gluten. I'm hoping that maybe my stomach is just being overly sensitive now that my diet has radically changed, but after reading an article about molecular mimicry and certain food proteins causing people to react the same way they do to gluten, I am freaking out. I'm feeling horribly, horribly depressed. I really am ready to give up anything and everything other than coffee. Has anyone had this issue and found a away to make their stomach more tolerant to coffee? Some sort of enzymes or probiotics? I would be willing to give it up temporarily if it meant I could drink it in the long run. I am willing to do just about anything to be able to handle coffee. Please give me some hope.

      How Can I Find A Good Doctor In Colorado?
      Hello. This is my first post on After having 10 years of digestive problems that were repeatedly misdiagnosed as either acid reflux or IBS, I had a basic blood test come back positive for celiac. The upper GI biopsies came back negative. Because of this, my doctor gave me a diagnosis of "mildly gluten-sensitive" and told me to just avoid gluten. The problem is, I suspect I'm having cross reactions with other foods (proteins that my body is mistaking for gluten) and have yet to feel much symptom relief under the gluten-free diet after a month. I recently switched jobs and lost my health insurance, but I will be looking to see what is available under Obamacare once the health care exchanges open in October.
      As I compare options, I'd like to know if anyone knows of a good doctor who knows about gluten issues and celiac issues and is competent in treating individuals with this problem. My experience thus far dealing with both general practitioners and GI doctors has been frustrating. I understand that gluten problems are a relatively new and little understood area of medicine, but I am getting tired of paying $50 copays to doctors who seem to know even less than I do about celiac. I'd also really love to find a doctor who might be able to help me heal my gut enough to where I might eventually be able to eat some of the foods that I'm intolerant of right now (I know, gluten's out forever, but I really, really don't want to have to give up coffee for the rest of my life). If anyone knows a good doctor anywhere along the Colorado Front Range area, I'd really, really appreciate knowing about him or her. Thank you all.
