Candy added a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes - Baking & Cooking TipsSteamed Vegetables And SproutsI've been eating steamed vegetables all summer and they're great ; now I'm hooked. They're super quick to prepare, leave me feeling satiated and energized and help me get 5-8 cups of veggies a few days of the week. The veggies made my celiac gut feel a whole world better too.I can't remember the site, but I liked their method of cutting vegetables into maybe half-inch pieces ,then steaming them for 3-5 minutes, especially cruciferous for female breast health-maybe it's good for all types of cancer prevention.
You can also steam them in a little water too, in the pot,not necessary to have a steamer basket, necessarily.
I was also interested in sprouting sprouts so I got a sprouter device at amazon.com,and a bag of sprout seeds, including alfalfa, broccoli, radish seeds among them. I havented used them yet,but i'm thinking they're accessible all year round.Maybe I'll try them this autumn season.
I'm starting to steam autumn/winter veggies now like rutabaga, which I like with frozen peas...
Anyone else like vegetables or sprouts ?

Candy added a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medicationsgluten-free Rice Mix To Try: LundbergsI've just discovered a gluten-free packaged rice mix about a week ago and ate it last night and tonite.
It's Lundberg's Organic Whole Grain Rice & Seasoning mix and Wow ! It's a delicious godsend !
These gluten-free rice mixes are flavorful and wholesome. I was so surprised (with joy and satisfaction) when I discovered them at a supermarket on the gluten-free rack. These rice mixes have two flavors that I saw:one with brown rice, wild rice, and porcini mushrooms ,and the other flavor is Jambalaya, with brown rice onion, garlic, bell pepper, spices(black pepper, cayenne, cumin)dried tomato, smoke flavor, organic sunflower oil,and organic brown/rice concentrate , and so on.....
If the jambalaya one is as good as the brown rice and mushroom one then it's a winner...
You gotta try 'em..

Candy added a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes - Baking & Cooking TipsWheat Bran - Try It - It's Great!I've mixed wheat bran into my cereal and it gave me no "wheat" pain ,and make me feel fuller longer.
I don't think it has wheat protein, since it's just the outer husk of the wheat and is not absorbed by the intestine. I think wheat bran is a celiac's best friend ! What do you think.

Candy added a topic in Celiac Disease - Coping WithVaccine Cure Possible For Autoimmune DiseaseI came across this article a few years ago saying that mice who were immunized with their own antigens were cured of their autoimmune diseases in experiments done by doctors in Germany and France. This is really good good news if they can get it off the ground. If this was available now I'd like to run and get it....

Candy added a topic in Celiac Disease - Post Diagnosis, Recovery/Treatment(s)How Cigarette Smoke Helps CeliacsI'm not a smoker but I sometimes crave a cigarette at least twice a month and that being only since I had seemed to develop Celiac Disease in my late twenties.
I did test positive for Celiac genes at Enterolab a few years back.
I remember reading on this site an article that said Celiacs benefit from cigarette smoke but the article didn't say WHY. And that's what I want to know --How does cigarette smoke help Celiacs? Is the nicotine helpful to Celiacs and how ?
Here is the Article-My link
If nicotine is beneficial to Celiacs they could use a nicotine patch which delivers 4mg of nicotine or electronic cigarettes.
Personally I could use a little nicotine

Candy added a topic in Celiac Disease - Related Disorders & ResearchCeliac Mothers Associated With Austistic Offspring? Many media reports say that Autism and A child's mother with certain Autoimmune Diseases go hand in
Have researchers for www.Celiac.com proven this? I mean I don't actually see a list of tested and proven statistics here.
But Media reports say Celiac Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Diabetes Type 1 ,but not other Autoimmune Diseases, contribute to a child having Austism Spectrum Disorder.
IS THIS TRUE? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THIS?
I'LL POST THE WEBSITE(S) WITH THIS INFORMATION IF I CAN FIND IT AGAIN.

Candy added a topic in Celiac Disease - Related Disorders & ResearchSecondary Hemochromatosis?I seem to get too much Iron or it isn't being processed correctly by the Liver-I had the Hemochromatosis test and it was NEGATIVE-but I often have gold bronzy skin and ,my heart tends to hurt, and my joints are stiff, yet all regular blood work given by the doctor comes back normal.
Do any other Celicas out there tend to have this?
Also My iron level was a little low on the bloodwork test despite the fact that I seem to be overdosing on Iron,so apparently my iron isn't being processed properly through the liver, and goes elsewhere, but where I don't know...
