  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Hope this doesn't sound to dumb but is coconut milk actually milk or is it the juice like stuff that you see when you crack open a coconut? Where did you buy the coconut milk your talking about? I would like to find my husband an alternative to dairy milk for things like smoothies. Thanks. Jennifer
  3. Tired Of Being Fat

Hi. I just wanted to share my sister's story with you. She had the gastric bypass surgery and for the first 2 years everything went fine. She lost over 100 pounds and was very happy. She did have to go to the doctor on a regular schedule in the begining for regular blood work and she had to have some vitamin injections (B12) and she has to take liquid vitamins for the rest of her life. There are a lot of foods she can no longer eat because they make her sick and she can't eat a lot at a time. In the last 4 months she has become very ill. She got a cold and it turned into pneumonia. The doctor gave her antibiotics but she couldn't absorb them and she ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks. While there they discovered that her iron was alarmingly low and she had to have blood transfusions and she now has to take iron supplements, her heart has also started acting up (racing at 155 - 165 beats per minute) so now she has to take meds for that and see a cardiologist. She just had to have a hysterctomy 2 weeks ago to try and get the anemia under control. She has black circles under her eyes and she says she lives on tums because she always has a sour stomach. All of this is branching from the gastric surgery. She does not have Celiac but when I was telling my husband about all of her problems with not absorbing he said she basically paid to get Celiac. I think the problem with this surgery is the doctors don't really know the long term effects of the surgery. I'm afraid my sister will be dealing with this nightmare the rest of her life and she just turned 31. Hope you come up with the decision that is right for you. Good luck. Jennifer
  4. Funny Smell?!

Before my husband went gluten free he would sweat a lot and the arm pit area of his shirts was always yellow. Even on dark shirts (like navy or denim it would show a stain). He didn't have any different odor but the yellow stains were very annoying. We were just talking the other day about how this has completely disappeared. Don't know if it was related to gluten or just a coincidence (sp??). Jennifer
  5. Bacon?

I've been buying the Boar's Head bacon at Publix. It's very good and it states right on the package gluten free and dairy free. Jennifer
  6. Hi Rachel. My husband had bloodwork done at his last routine doctor's appt. and they called back and said that everything was good but his liver enzymes were elevated. The doctor was pretty worried and wanted to have him come back in 6 weeks to recheck and see what other test he would order. I posted on here about it like you did and it seems to be a fairly common thing with Celiac. By the time we went back to the doctor 6 weeks later the doctor (GP) had done a lot of researching on Celiac and he said it was very common. He said that since he had just had the other liver test (hepatitis, abdominal u/s & abdominal ct) done and everything was normal we would just keep rechecking and keep an eye on it. He said it was very normal to have elevated liver enzymes when you have Celiac and it has very recently become one of the more notable symptoms. I wouldn't worry to much now, I think you have plenty of other things going on and just ride this out and hopefully it will resolve itself soon. At least all of your other bloodtest were normal thats a good sign. Hope you get good results on your CT. Jennifer
  7. Grits

I read on here the other nite that Dixie Lily says there grits are gluten free but I haven't had a chance to call them yet. They have a web site but I haven't checked there yet either. Jennifer
  8. Scared And Need Support Please

Hi Betty. Hang in there. My husband has been gluten free now for about 5 1/2 consecutive months. He has many days where he feels good (for a celiac) and then he'll all of a sudden have several days to weeks where he feels like crap. I'm assuming it must just be part of the road of healing. When he gets discouraged on the days when he's feeling bad I try to remind him about how much worse he was before dx and that it just takes time to get to light at the end of this terribly long tunnel. He also like Judy mentioned developed other intolerances. First was Casein at about 3 months gluten-free, then at about 4 months soy, and now in the last few weeks peanuts. Maybe you should try and take note if you are feeling worse after dairy or soy. Have you tried anything like pepto for your stomach pains? I sure hope you are feeling better soon and maybe your body just needs more time to heal, my husband still has many symptoms regularly. (I'm not trying to minimize your pain by talking about his - I just wanted you to know you aren't alone and maybe/hopefully its all just normal and part of the process.) Hang in there and don't give in to that pizza, you'll be glad you didn't when your healed and feeling back to your old self. Jennifer
  9. I buy my husband the Green & Black's Organic Chocolate. The package says Dark 70% and another type is Green & Black's Organic Maya Gold. Both are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free and they can be purchased at Wal-Mart on the candy isle with the other candy. The web site is and they list all of the food allergy info, so you can verify there if you have any other allergies. They are kind of pricey about 4.00 per bar but my husband just eats a few pieces at a time to kill the chocolate craving. Jennifer
  10. Tylenol

Thanks Patti. I was a little confused with the rapid release being on the bottle I picked up. I'm glad I waited could have been an ugly few weeks. Jennifer
  11. Thanks for the help Karen. Unfortunately Shane's are pills not syrup. I'm wondering now if since they only have syrup listed if that means the pill form contains gluten. Guess I know what I'll be looking into first thing in the morning. Thanks again. Jennifer
  12. Tylenol

Thanks for the speedy reply Karen. I think I will pass these on to someone else and stick with the advil. Jennifer
  13. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free and cf? I was positive it was and when I just was on the Delphi list checking on Tylenol I looked for this Promethazine and I couldn't find it. I'm going to call the mfg. in the morning but I was just curious if anyone is using this for nausea and has verified it. Jennifer
  14. Tylenol

Are the Extra Strength Rapid Release Gels the same as the Extra Strength Gel Caps? I bought some and was trying to verify before my husband has to use them and I noticed that it actually says Rapid Release Gels and I've never noticed that before (I guess I picked up the wrong package) so I'm not sure if these are safe and if they have gluten then the headache he has will be the least of his worries if he takes them. If anyone knows I'd appreciate the help. Thanks. Jennifer
  15. My husband is gluten, dairy and soy free also and I buy him the Helmans Canola Mayo and he really likes it. My question is what kind of Tuna are you buying if your avoiding soy. Every brand I picked up at the grocery store (Publix and Wal Mart) have soy in them. I'm hoping you have found a brand that doesn't use soy because my husband is really missing his tuna salad but he is enjoying egg salad since I found the Canola mayo. Jennifer
