  1. Hello GFAl, Ive been reading an old post about the abdominal pain you were experiencing at night time.

    My daughter has recently been diagnosed as Celiac and is suffering with the same pain at night. Did you ever find out how to control this? She is already on the diet and was ok for a few months but recently had a stomach bug and is up every night again.

    Any advice you can give please?

  3. Does anyone know if these are gluten free? The ingredients contain starch and because wheat wasn't specified, I bought them. Then I looked more closely at the package and saw that they are made on some kibbutz in Israel. Do the FDA regulations apply to these? Has anyone contacted the company? I've emailed them, but I'm still waiting for a response. Thanks!

    Do any of the hostels have kitchens? I've stayed at some truly horrid hostels, but I've also stayed at a few that had really nice, really well equipped kitchens, and I convinced my hubby (well, then boyfriend) to cook some meals ourselves. That cuts down on my anxiety A LOT and usually winds up being cheaper! I unfortunately don't have any more specific advice than that. We were going to go to Vienna and Prague on our honeymoon in '07, actually. And we didn't. Partially because flights got sooooo expensive and partially because I was worried about finding food I could eat. I don't know if you can do dairy, but Eastern Europe is pretty cheese-centric. And sausage-centric. Yuck! We went to England and France and I did pretty well in those countries, England especially. Keep us posted! I do hope you get to go on your dream trip!!!
  7. Question About Raw Honey

    I don't want to discount anything necessarily, however I would think that the honey would be fine. Regular ol' honey could potentially come from a hive located close to a wheat field as well, and heating or processing it wouldn't do anything to destroy the gluten. So if raw honey is a potential source of CC, so would regular honey. And peanut butter when the peanuts come from a field next to a wheat field. And jam made from berries grown next to a wheat field. And sugarcane grown next to wheat. Etc. If you really thought about all the potential sources for food to be grown next to a wheat field, you literally wouldn't eat anything you didn't grow yourself. And even then, you'd have to worry about birds and bees transplanting wheat to your garden... Sorry to sound negative, but you have to draw the line somewhere, you know? Hope you're feeling better!
  8. Just my .02 - many on the board here say that they get depressed when they accidentally consume gluten, or that their depression lifted when they went gluten free. Most kids who are depressed look irritable and whiny rather than having the typical symptoms we associate with depression in adults. If this is a relatively new behavior, and there have been no other major changes in your household or her routine, I'd take a close look and make sure your daughter is not getting CC'ed in some way. Of course, she could just be getting close to the "terrible two's"...

  10. Shoot! The lemon-vanilla-cashew ones were my favorite! The regular Clif bars have oats, but the nectar bars are just fruits and nuts and are soooooo yummy!!! I actually like them better than Larabars. Shoot!
  11. I finally found the Honey Kix in my middle-of-nowhere town and promptly ate two bowls. And promptly got sick - super bloated tummy, couldn't keep my eyes open, weepy, etc. So while they were tasty and it would be really nice to be able to buy a mainstream cereal, it's really just not worth it to me. Sigh - guess I have to come up with a different way to save money on groceries
  12. Just an FYI, glucose is sugar, not gluten. I have no idea if Rockstar energy drinks are safe or not, but glucose shouldn't be a problematic ingredient unless you are also diabetic.
  13. I just found a new cereal at Wegmans - it's from Nature's Path and it's called Whole O's. Not exactly like Cheerios, but in my opinion WAY better than Perky O's! Just thought I'd share in case others haven't seen it yet!
