  1. Thank you both for your responses. My heart rate got up to 136 per minute, and yes, it was very scary. I had pneumonia at the time, so I had attributed it to that. But after further research by the Doctor, it was AFIB. The cardiologist has called and has moved my appointment up to tomorrow. Plus ... I have found out that it can be caused by an untreated condition, such as thyroid disease. We all know that thyroid disease is an autoimmune disease that is associated with celiac disease. I am hoping that is what it could be. Again, thank you all for your words. I'll keep you posted.
  2. Hi all, it has been a while since I have been on this board. Been gluten-free for about 10 years now. Was diagnosed this past Tuesday with AFIB because of rapidly increased pulse rate. 3 known triggers for that disease are: high blood pressure; high cholesterol; and smoker. I have none of those. My question is this: Have any of you experienced/heard of a connection between celiac disease and AFIB? If so, what are your experiences? I consider myself young at 47 years old and am very active. My doctor has put me on light duty until I can get in to see a cardiologist. I am extremely nervous and would appreciate your stories/experiences. TIA!
  3. Thanks guys for all your suggestions. For the last week and 1/2, I have been eating very plain/blan foods. (ex. creamed potatoes, soup) Before that, I was eating a Yoplait yogurt for breakfast and a Vans gluten-free waffle, a sandwich with UDI's bread with Hillshire farm gluten-free meat, and usually homemade spaghetti or vegetables at dinner. I have been very careful. No, I haven't changed any brands of anything. Today, I ate a YoPlus Yogurt for breakfast and did fine; an hour 1/2 later I ate a plain Van's gluten-free waffle and got terribly sick before I could even finish it. I had to leave work. BTW, I work for attorneys, and as we all know they aren't very sympathetic. I called my Doctor today and he is going to work me in tomorrow. I am just miserable. I am truly hoping for some cures from you guys so that I will know where to start. Being sick for so long has gotten me almost depressed and I just don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.
  4. Not sure if this will help, but I can sometimes tell a difference when I have too much sugar. I am a southern girl, which means sweet tea, so I call definitely tell a difference when I have too much tea and sweets. I try to stay away from it, but it is hard to resist. Hope that helps!
  5. I was diagnosed with Celiac apx. 7 - 8 years ago and have had on and off periods of problems with it. However, never this bad. I started getting sick last weekend with the classic symptoms of Celiac. It has gotten gradually worse, and I had to leave work 1/2 day Tuesday and haven't been back this week. I am so sick now that I can't even hold water on my stomach. I went to my Family Doctor Wednesday, and he put me on Flagyl. Yesterday I went to my Gastroenterologist, who specializes in celiac disease, and he added Aliana to that, so I am taking both antibiotics. I am so sick. Any ideas from anybody? I literally can't eat or drink anything and haven't left the house except to go to the Doc. Please help. Thanks for all your ideas/suggestions!
  6. Yeah, I had an Endoscopy when they diagnosed me and it wasn't bad at all. They knocked me out and I never knew when it was over. Good luck. I hope you get better; I am not feeling so well myself. :-(
  7. I have to agree on Jason's Deli. We have one here in Montgomery, AL and I eat there at least once a week now so I can get my gluten-free sandwich. They take great care wtih it also! According to the girl working the register, they have had a good response to the gluten-free sandwiches, so I hope that means they will be keeping them!
  8. I found it at the Publix in Prattville, AL. It was $4.50 + a box, but was well worth it. I made pancakes with it and they tasted just like the ones made with "real" bisquick. Also made a cobbler with the crust that rises from the bottom and it was awesome! I bought it a few weeks ago and already need to get another box. I highly recommend it and don't mind paying a little more for something that I am able to buy at a regular store like that.
  9. Thanks for the link to the picture of the box. I can't wait to try it. It would be so nice to be able to have a "regular" snack sometime! Plus, I don't think that $2.68 is that bad compared to the price of some gluten free stuff. jmho though.
  10. Does the package say gluten free right on the box? I have looked for these several times and haven't been able to find them. Please give me a description of the box. I would also like to be able to have a quick snack at times!
  11. So sorry to hear of your husband being sick. I suffered for many years before finally being diagnosed with celiac. My Doctor in Montgomery was very disappointing, to say the least. He pretty much just patted me on the back and sent me on my way. Anyway, I went to Birmingham to see Dr. Shallcross apx 6 years after original diagnosis. He goes to several hospitals up there andis great. Very understanding and very aware of celiac and all the problems it can cause. As a matter of fact, I need to make a follow-up appointment.   14. Hello, Just wanted to say hello and ask a question about neuropathy. I was diagnosed with Celiac apx. 6 years ago and have been doing fairly well on the diet. Still having some problems but the diet has really helped me a lot. In the last 5 months, I have been having excruciating right leg pain. My leg goes from feeling fine (a little heavy but otherwise fine) to excruciating burning pain in the knee and all the way down. It never seems to hurt in the same place. Plus, if I am on my leg at all, such as walking from the car to the building at work, I have terrible pain by the time I can get into the building. Does it sound like neuropathy? My Rheumatologist said it was arthritis but I am not convinced. I just wanted to talk to someone who is going through the same thing. Please -- I would appreciate any help I can get. I don't want to go through the holidays in this pain. Thanks in advance!!!!
  15. Hello Alabama folks. Just wanted to say hi. As far as the Mobile area, I don't know much about that area down there unless it is the chain restaurants. I live in Prattville, which is a suburb of Montgomery. And, for Sredrobin, I went to see a Gastroenterologist in Birmingham a couple weeks ago that specializes in Celiac. I really liked him a lot, and I would be glad to give you his information. Just drop me a quick e-mail and I'll send it to you. (My e-mail address is in a previous post above) I have not found a lot of help from the doctors around Montgomery. You are so right, there are a lot more people buying gluten free stuff now. My local Publix tells me they get requests all the time for gluten free stuff. Stay in touch! I'll be glad to help anybody that I can!!!!
