  1. i found several of my shampoos and lotions had wheat protien in them. my fault for not paying close attention to the fact that its not just food i should watch out for. well now ive eliminated those products but now i found one of my shampoos has "wheat amino acid". i have no idea what that is. anyone know what it is. safe? not safe? tia! Sara
  2. i HATE the upkeep with my teeth. its an ongoing battle despite flossing and brushing 2-3x a day. and a HEALTHY diet to booth! but your dentist can actually prescribe a toothpaste for you, which is gluten free, and it has TONS of extra flouride in it. it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally helps.
  3. Coping With Celiac

I have had horrible insomnia since i was a child. age 7 or 8. im now 27 [diagnosed with celiac when i was 21]. the insomnia got better during pregnancy but that is the ONLY time i remember being able to sleep. but i think its just because pregnancy mAKES you tired. even as a kid, i recall that the slightest noises kept me up or awakened me. when i was 10, i even moved my mattress into my closet so i wouldnt hear my sister talking on the phone through the walls. my own breathing kept me up! its still bad. but drs finally put me on lunesta which really helped me out. the only problem is that your body sort of becomes immune and i then began waking up after 4-5 hours of sleep again. so instead of upping the dose, my dr added muscle relaxers to KEEP me asleep. now that im planning to get pg again, i NEED to get off the medications. so the insomnia is a bit of a nerve-wracking issue. ~~~~ i have read good things about herbal and vitamin remedies for this however. and that alot of celiacs are also intolerant to other things such as dairy, mint, corn... etc. so modifying your diet even more can help. i am working on this myself! good luck!
  4. Herbal Remedies/vitamins

thats interesting. thank you! i got the magnesium... to help with my fibro pain and heard about the melatonin as well. ill try this!
  5. Herbal Remedies/vitamins

im planning to get pregnant and need to get off of Lunesta, which worries me...and im nervous. as i have SEVERE insomnia. this has been a problem since I was around 7-8 yrs old. [i am now 27]. i have been researching herbal remedies and vitamins to help [also with my migraines]. and am wondering if anyone here takes anything they swear by. b2 riboflavin? feverfew...magnesium...valerian...jamaican dogwood... are a few i have learned about. but id like to hear about some experiences. thanks in advance!!!
  6. Planning Pregnancy...

I was diagnosed in 2001 with Celiac Disease and then [lucky me] Fibromyalgia in 2005. We are planning to try and concieve our 2nd child soon, so I'm prepping myself to GET pregnant. I know, with my issues, its a process to a process. so. My concern... is that. I'm on some LIFESAVING prescriptions lol! and I recall that 2.5 years ago it was such a painful nightmare going off of them during my first pregnancy. topamax I take topamax for my migraines [to prevent] and literally... it saves me. I've taken this since i was about 18, so it is sooooooooooo hard to like. just stop. 2 days off of it... the migraines HAUNT my every waking moment. my last pregnancy, literally, i had a migraine for almost 5.5 weeks, had to wear sunglasses indoors, couldnt sleep, cried all day, missed so much work, before the drs finally said... okay youre near the 2nd trimester, lets slowly put you back on the topamax. ugh. i am... SO... nervous you guys. WHAT do i do? and as far as the other... i guess im not so concerned with bc its not PAINFUL... Lunesta: but i have HORRIFIC insomnia. I had it since i was probably 7 years old? its just that i never did anything about it until AFTER i had my first child and REALLY REALLY needed the sleep... bc yes... after the baby comes... sleep is like... a GIFT... and i could NOT do it. so my drs put me on Lunesta. which ALSO... has DRASTICALLY improved my fibromyalgia pain. so in a sense...yes...i sort of need the lunesta to sleep...and the sleep in order to manage my fibro pain. so. that sucks. the topamax and lunesta have been a WONDERFUL routine for me, as far as pain and health management with the headaches, insomnia and fibro pain. other than that i exercise EVERYDAY to control fibro flare ups... and i take a TON of vitamins [a multi, b complex, b12, folic acid, 5htp] i know that topamax and lunesta are not the best things to take in pregnancy, especially the first trimester. so i know i have to give them up soon.... and im VERY nervous about it and how it will effect me [which... i know... my eye is on the ball... a healthy baby... so in the end.... headhaches, insomnia and fibro pain are worth it... but still... im SOOOOOOO nervous] has anyone else had to go off routine medications before pregnancy? if so? how did you ease off of them? did you go back ON them? lower doses? did doctors keep you on them anyway? ANY experience and advice would be appreciated!
  7. Needing Reassurance

no no no.... eating gluten will NOT increase chance of miscarraige! rest assured your baby will be okay! but you should call your dr who is doing the endoscopy and let him know about your pregnancy so you can do a blood test to confirm celiac instead of endoscopy! congratulations!!!!!!! pregnancy & celiac can work! and eating gluten will not hurt your child! it may upset your stomach... but it wont hurt your baby! good luck!
  8. I was diagnosed in 2001. And I am really frustrated as I had been having some more problems [getting full very fast etc] so my doc did an endoscope AND colonoscopy [had some other stupid issues as well] and come to find out... i have TONS of sprue active in the upper intestine!!!! HOW!!????? i am soooooooooooooooo gluten free it isnt even funny. WHAT do i do? where do i go? do i start over? do i have to just go back to SCD diet? Am i the only one this has happened to? I am SO frustrated! What is getting by me in food labels? Will I NEVER get to go to a restaurant again? And to make matters WORSE... gluten free products [if you want to gauruntee the saftey of what you eat] are SO DANG EXPENSIVE! im really at a loss. Sara
  9. I am almost 26 years old and was diagnosed with celiac disease 5 years ago. I have Celiac Disease but am also sensitive to many other foods; mostly starches & creams & corn syrup etc. i am currently doing the SCD diet modified to include a minimal rice allowance. this works well for me. i just had a baby in November and knowing how incredibly sensitive *I* am to foods/ingredients above and beyond gluten, I am worried about starting her on solids soon. we just began rice cereal and she loooooves it. she's in the 80th percentile for 4 mos old. how young can you have babies/children tested?
