  2. Hi, I just got word that a new gluten-free Brewery will be opening in the Fall on 2006. I do not work for them and never have, but one of the owner's has celiac and has been brewing their own beer for awhile now. Their website is and you can read about them there. Just wanted to get the word out that there will be a new source for gluten-free beer soon. Granny
  3. Hi Guys, I used to use Gas-X and can't remember why I switched to Phazyme. Is Gas-X gluten-free? Also, is Sorbitol the ingredient in toothpaste that causes some people to have gas? It is in the Gas-X and it rang a bell in my head and it seems like it was the ingredient in toothpaste. I'd sure appreciate your help if you can answer either of these questions.Thanks, granny
  4. Hi Luka, I don't know if that's what my sugery was called but I also went to the ER and had exploratory surgery after a very painful afternoon and night. They found that my small intestines had twisted and an adheasion had become entangled into the mess. After taking out 3 1/2 feet of my intestines to clear out the tangle and to clear out the gangreen that had set in, I was in ICU for 3 days and then another 4 days in a room before being released. That is what kicked my celiac disease into high gear. I didn't have a normal bowel movement for over a year and was going an average of 25 times a day. It totally comsumed my life and I couldn't leave my home for fear of an accident. I was so thrilled when my doc. suggested that I might have Sprue, and that eatting wheat free would probably help. I honestly didn't think it was possible to eat wheat free but was willing to try. I went on-line that night and found this site and read till the wee hours, learning everything I could. Since I wasn't able to leave my home and we live in a very small town, my children would pick up bread and stuff from the health food store in the town they worked in and slowly I improved. As I improved I realized that we couldn't afford for me to continue the expense of the breads, so I started baking my own bread and followed advise from here on building a new way of eatting. I've found that I can eat just about anything, with a little adapting it to gluten-free, and am so thrilled to have the health I do today. I still have problems but they are much better. I was never officially tested because my doc. agreed that the improvement on the diet was good enough for a diagnosis. I didn't want the expense of the tests. I wish I'd had them in some ways but will never eat gluten to prepare for tests. It's not worth it to me. I'm 59 years old and reasonable healthy and happy. The diet is a drag sometimes but it's worth it and so much better than some of the things I feared during the terrible diarrhea stage. I hope this helps in some way.   5. Vincent, I'm not an expert by any means but, I've read that it takes adults a lot longer to heal than children. The fact that your biopsy was not positive may be that they didn't get the biopsy at the place where the damage was. There are also lots of false neg. on blood tests. I don't think 2 mo. is long enough a test for an adult and hope you will give it more time. I've been gluten-free since Nov. 2003 and I still have problems at time, esp with gass and diarrhea. Hang in there and give it more time. Are you on any meds, prescription or OTC? Check these for gluten; check vitamins ect. and all products that can come in contact with the mouth, lotion, shampoo etc. The reason I mentioned this is because I took an anti-diarrheal prescription for a yr. before someone mentioned here that it containing gluten. It was prescribed by the doc that diagnosed me so I didn't think to check it. It's a tough job to find all the gluten but so worth the trouble. granny
  6. Cherbear, Thanks for the recipe. I recently went to Outback for the first time and had a blast! The waiter was great and after a wonderful meal, I had the Thunder Down Under and it was so good. My granddaughters helped me eat it and we wanted to make it at home. I truely don't think just an ordinary Borwnie would do the trick. granny
  7. Hey Michel, don't take it personally, we all get busy and don't read every day. I found your info very interesting and I actually have some of the L-glutimine and tried it. I was having a hard time and it got worse so decided to stop it for awhile. I may try it again now that I'm doing better. granny

  9. The zuks won't stand a chance of getting too big in our garden. Hubby like to pick stuff too much. LOL The puzzles are jigsaw puzzles and I love scenery with a light background.   11. Hi Vincent, I just found this and wanted to ask how high they rose up after smashing them. I finally gave up and purchased the mini-spring form pans from Wal-Mart and they turned out better. I paid special attention to keeping the center lower as I loaded each pan and only one peaked on me. I think your idea of smashing them in a great one. granny I love the pic. of your little boy--he is so-o-o cute!

  13. Vincent, Thanks for putting the link info here. I feel so dense sometimes but have to hope my son has time to help me with stuff like that. He's my teacher and with 2 adult daughters and a granddaughter of his own, he doesn't always have time to teach me these new things. Oh, he's a truck driver and is only here on week-ends. I hope you like these buns as much as I do. Maybe you can figure out what to do to prevent the volcano effect. I lowered the temp to 375 and had better results but had to cook them longer, which worked better for me. granny
  14. Donna, thanks for the suggestion. Sometimes the simplest thing can allude us. I never even thought of doing that. I tried them again today with a lower oven temp and they were better but one still peaked. I guess 1 out of 5 isn't bad. I think I will try making the dough a little thicker next time.
