  1. Best Stand Mixer?

    My Kitchen Aide is also a professional model, and I found it for $150 (still in the box) on Craigslist. My mom got the same model 600pro at a regular store and only paid $250 b/c she found a sale. The bargains are out there on KA mixers...just keep your eyes open online and in store for the sales (around holidays, seasons' changing, and "ugly" colors are all prime for good prices).

  3. Hi everyone, I'm 5'8" tall, and I've lost down to 105 pounds (last time I checked)....I'm still losing a pound or two a week b/c of the diarrhea. Celiac has definitely been ruled out as a dx, but I wonder about gluten intolerance. Here's my question: Could foods without gluten give me "D" if I'm still eating foods with gluten? In other words, I ate a well-washed plain potato for breakfast and it gave me "D", but it doesn't have gluten and there is no damage to my villi. Could the fact that I still have gluten in my diet at other meals be what made the potato upset my stomach? I just don't know anymore!!! Please help! Thank you so much! Julie

    Hi there! How have you been? Well, only one of my tests came back definitely negative for Celiac, and it was TTG. I can't remember if I was eating gluten at the time or not. Do you happen to know what tests I should have done to have a full panal of bloodwork for gluten intolerance? Good hearing from you! Julie
  5. Hi guys, I haven't written in awhile. The truth is that I am homebound b/c of my frequent diarrhea and illness. Nobody knows what it is! I've been hospitalized 2 or 3 times in the last 6 months and been to the ER 4 or 5 times. I am VERY sick. Anyway, they had diagnosed me with Celiac a long time ago and then changed it to ulcerative colitis and now changed it to nothing! I requested a copy of my medical records and discovered that 18 months ago when I was tested for Celiac, these were my results: IGA antibody: 13 (11 is cut-off for "normal") IGA serum: 44 (80-something is cut-off for normal) TTG antibody was 3 (negative) I was told I didn't have any signs of gluten intolerance/celiac, but only one of those tests came back a definite negative. What are your opinions? What other tests have ya'll had done? My great aunt has Celiac, my mother never goes to the doctor, but she has (at a minimum) IBS and rectal cancer. I may not have Celiac disease, but I do wonder about gluten intolerance and would like to ask for a full panel of bloodwork just to see what I can find out. I have fissures and hemmoroids that the surgeon said he can't fix until the GI or GP gets my diarrhea under 10 times a day. I have had a biopsy recently, and it was normal. Thanks for any feedback!   6. Ahhh, these brownies bring back memories of the good-ol'-days when I used to be gluten-free and tried to cook (been years ago). I'm such a mess in the kitchen! I made a huge mess this time, and all I needed to do was add a 1/2 stick butter and two eggs. Actually, I recommend adding three eggs, when I had only added two, the batter was VERY dry. The third egg really helped, and the brownies were delicious! Meanwhile, my kitchen looked like a disaster area. I won't go into all the details, but lets just say it involved my first pan being to big, using wax paper to line the pan, and trying to "transport" all the batter from one pan to another off the wax paper (and having the wax paper rip, mid-air). Fact #1: I need to repurchase pans dedicated for gluten-free foods. -Julie

    Awww...thank you Collette! I sure hope we ALL get answers to what's causing our probs. worked out soon. I just want to feel "human" again...have the energy to clean house, decorate for fall, and stay off the friggin' toilet. Have a wonderful evening! Julie

    So sorry to hear that you're going through that. I hate this guessing game. And I'm almost too tired to play it. Like you, I just need answers before I waste away...I'm already down to about 118 pounds and I'm 5'8". Good luck to you...we'll figure it out...we don't have a choice! Hope tomorrow is better. -Julie

    Thank you everyone. I have a question from Tarnalberry's response. Does gluten-free toast have milk in it? I was reading about being dairy free and it said bread has milk in it...of course, I'm not sure if gluten-free bread is different, and it's been 6 years since I've really been gluten-free so I don't remember.   11. Hi everyone, I'm just so upset this morning, I've been gluten-free for about 2 weeks. I had a couple of "good" days and got excited, but now I'm right back as bad as ever. I've used the restroom 7 times since 6:00 am and it's only 8:00 am right now. Some of you who read my posts may remember that my GI dr. told me I had IBS, take pills daily, and go home. He said that he did a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and bloodwork on me two years ago and I was fine. However, about six years ago, I had gone to a "Lead" GI in a good hospital who told me that he believed I DID have celiac because several parts of my bloodwork were positive at the time, I have firmly diagnosed celiac in my family, and he said it explained all of my symptoms. Despite my new doctor's opinion, I started the gluten-free diet. To keep myself from giving up on doctors and healing, I'm trying to figure this out myself. Can you answer some questions for me please? 1. How do you go "back to basics" to start? Do I eliminate everything but salads and greens to cleanse my system before I start reintroducing? And can I have gluten-free salad dressing? How long do I need to do this "healing" part of the diet? 2. How do I eliminate dairy? It seems to be in everything! I've long suspected that I may be lactose intolerant (since childhood). What do you eat if you are gluten-free and DF? Is there a supplement or something I could take to help? Thank you for your help. I'm just "so sick and tired of being sick and tired"...maybe the tears are a good release. I know you all have "been there" at some point too. Everyone have a great day.   12. Hi all, I wrote Publix last week, and I'm about to write Kroger. I asked Publix to please update their list of Publix-brand products that are Gluten-free. They responded today, and the list is updated. If anyone shops at Publix, their Gluten-free list is no longer 3-4 years old, it is current. I know product ingredients continue to change at any time, but at least there is an up-to-date list of what is Gluten-free according to the store. -Julie

  14. Thank you both. So they would not disclose if a product had barley or malt in it for example, just wheat because it's a top allergen. Is that correct?
